Hey Nathan. What I most like about your channel is your ability to go inmediately to the point. No extra chat like other channels. I always find something new to learn here. Really nice !!
On RUclips you normally find producers or musicians or songwriters teaching these subjects. Right here you find someone that is all 3, the full package. He knows what he is talking about and is always learning and developing new methods and magic in production. Listen up, Nathan is the real deal not just some video entrepreneur.
If you think the Logic acoustic drums sound bad, you’re not using them right. They need processing. I get big, realistic sounds from them. Plus you can use any drum samples you want. Also the Logic Drummer is great.
The stock Logic Pro EQ, not even the vintage one, just the simple channel EQ is CLUTCH for subtractive and quickly cleaning up guitars with low/hi pass filters. Glad you made this video, so many people go on a buying spree instead of just trying the stock plugins built into the program!
Dude you left out Step FX and Phat FX which are the best Logic stock plugins! Also Alchemy & ES2 are killer synths & silver verb is almost as good as Valhalla. Another thing that’s cool is if you hold down option when clicking on the audio fx lane you can access logics legacy plugins and one of them is called silver compressor which is an amazing hidden gem.
One super weird but cool trick with the vocal transformer is that you can turn any polyphonic loop into a playable instrument if you drag the loop into logic, put vocal transformer on it in Robotize mode which will force all the sound to one note then drag it into Q-sampler. It doesn't always produce magic but you can get some pretty intteresting sounds with it.
You're a god-send man! Haven't found any Pro X tutorials/teachers more helpful than you, and you've helped me overcome some real paralysis in my production process. Appreciate your knowledge and your musicianship!
The vocoder (EVOC20) can be put as a track effect as the “TrackOscillator” effect, which makes whatever track it’s on as the carrier signal, everything else works as normal.
Show this video to someone who’s never heard any music production knowledge and they’ll think it sounds like the most nerd thing ever lol. Awesome vid btw 🔥
Great video, one thing that would make it easier for some of us is if you show us how to navigate to where said plugins are so that we can find the plug-in faster. If you would add that step of you actually going to the plug-in it would be very helpful.
WIth Cubase I have always most of the time used stock VST effects almost exclusively and only tend to install third party freeware VST effects if I need something that Cubase doesn't have like a particular type of reverb. With both Cubase Artist and Mixcraft I have done so many productions entirely in the box even using only stock instruments.
You know, I subbed to you a while back and even with my notifications on for your channel, I haven’t seen any of your recent uploads until today again! Not sure why RUclips messes around with subscriptions like that!
Nate! This is definitely on my Top Ten List of all your videos. I'm still rather new to Logic Pro - yes, I "dealt" with Avid's Protools for years. (I even had the author of the Avid text book as my college Protools class professor) [pfft]. I LOVE Apple's Logic Pro. It's very user-friendly and extremely comprehensive. This video gives me a great insight into the plug-ins afforded to me. Thank you for taking time to "pull back the curtain".
Super, Super good advice! Your delivery and video is top quality. It’s easy to forget these plugins are included in Logic, with the bombardment of 3rd party and free plugins. I’m totally onboard that the Logic plugins are useful and high quality.
I love Logic its by far the best value DAW there is. And the vast majority of its plugins are great. But that Pultec is ROUGH, Compare it to IK, Wave or the UAD and just NAH. Stock compressors Yeah they are fantastic agreed.
@@NathanJamesLarsen so basically, supposing I've programmed in a particular session and export the midi files, and id like to take those midis into another logic session without the sound changing. How can i do that? When I import into another session, the midi tracks are in place but the sound changes to some random sound, often steinway piano. How do i keep the sounds from changing/ retain the original sound and processing on these midi files?
When I heard about Flex Pitch before having Logic Pro I was so excited to use It. But, after use it I became disappointed about flex pitch because it damages the recording. It adds distortion and some noise. Just the fact of turn on flex pitch in the track without any changes it ruins the quality of recording. I hope someday they will fix it. The tool has so much potential. Love the video and your channel. Keep going! :)
@@NathanJamesLarsen it's not a major problem. It's a minor detail. There's a video comparing Melodyne and Flex Pitch. Maybe you can understand what I'm saying :)
You are right, if there are plusives in your vocal recordings - pop-filter is must. Also if you're a breathy singer it can mess with those. I clean up my track excessively before using any flexpitch. I love it!
Very helpful. Appreciate it. And... I'm a little embarrassed but... I don't recall seeing the "Vocal Transformer". Not sure how I missed it. Oh well. : )
Hope you had a great break, it was well deserved! One question that is semi off topic: I am definitely on the fence of getting Komplete 13, especially now since there is sale. Would you say it is reasonable to start with the Select version, and then upgrade from there? I know I will probably get the Ultimate pack (which I know you have promoted) eventually, but it seems a bit much to go all in when there is a possibility to upgrade between the versions.
Prob old news, but I too was thinking about Komplete 13 for over a year then suddenly bought it 50% off on Black Friday. It’s very good and quite extensive - lots to learn and try. Warning: you need 650gb to download and install the standard edition. I used an external ssd and there were some insulation issues to overcome.
@@JeffyG No worries, your reply was still much appreciated! I have actually not purchased it yet, so I guess I will wait for the summer sale to see if my interest is still there. Which of the bundles did you get? Also, good to know with storage. What were the insulation issues?
Watch out with the sample delay trick. In mono it sounds like there is some ugly phase shifting happening. For the test I appreciate people who are using stock plugins to make s great track. Honestly I can't....
🎹 Great presentation and production. No doubt this was time intensive to make this video. Just found your channel. Subbed. Do you have a video on the MOTU 16A or 8 being used on the iMac? Just read an alarming complaint about the issue published early 2021. Look forward to checking out all your videos over the days ahead. By the way, your report pretty much targets modern day musicians vs composers, where as my stuff is geared more towards film, and orchestral works. I always use external drums. Do you have a favorite external plugin (add on) for strings, such as Hollywood Strings? Hope you have the time to respond in detail, as lots of others also use Macs. Warm regards. -James
Sorry, dude...Drummer is pretty damn good. Dunno how much drum miking you have done, but Apple spent a pretty penny conceiving and designing Drummer. You might want to give that another look. jus' sayin'
Hey man! I’ve been trying to email you for some production, mix/mastering work; but the email keeps coming back as undeliverable. I’m also based in Nebraska.
I disagree. With the right processing, some of the acoustic sets sound great, mainly Retro, Heavy and SoCal. Throw on some saturation and gated verb and your set. Great video though
Yep - I never said it didn't have the ability to cut. I said that I typically use it for additive EQ as opposed to subtractive. Many people use a specific technique with Pulteqs that cuts AND boosts at the same time which actually ends up boosting instead. My point was I normally do not use it for subtractive
A Digital audio workstation that can't even keep proper time. Now that beats all don't it? Pops, clicks and can't keep time... not sure what good a DAW is if it cannot reproduce Digital Audio to Work on.

Where can we stream the “Ocean Eyes” song? I really liked the brief sample you showed in the drum segment.
I really like the Drum Synth example you showed. Sounded great! How much processing do you add? Have you done a video on it yet?
Thanx for heads up

Burning question!! How can I retain midi sounds when importing into a new session? Keeps changing back to Steinway Piano 🤢
Not sure I totally understand what you're trying to do ... importing how?

Yes but it is really bad. Flex Pitch (number 9) is WAY better. Don't recommend using their auto tune option
