Me too….there were a more then a few times I got choked up watching this series but THAT part gutted me. I couldn’t grab the box of tissues fast enough. The actor did so much work conveying that moment without saying barely a word. Just hearing “I grew up in the Catholic Church” was an absolute gut punch.

The scene with his parents was so really heartbreaking. Such an interesting show, he really didn't shy away from the fact that at times he didn't help his situation, he could have left those parts out, but he didn't and I think that was really brave of him..

Jesus, this show was an emotional gut punch. The part during his speech at the comedy club when he was saying how much he hated himself and he loved hating himself more than he loved her, and God he loved her so much...whoa. it had me bawling uncontrollably because I have struggled with self-esteem so much for my entire life and it has really been affecting my current relationship and I have trouble expressing how I feel about myself and how it has nothing to do with him. I wish he would've watched this with me so I could have stopped that episode and said, "There! Exactly what he said"
Such great writing and vulnerable and amazing performances by all

This show is absolutely amazing. I love how he shows us his buried trauma and is very honest about it. He didn't try to be the perfect victim at all. I can feel his overwhelmed emotions throughout the show; sadness, anger, disappointment, hatred, confusion, and more. I hope he is better now

Welcome to the Baby Reindeer party! Isn't it just incredible? It's rare for storytelling to be a powerful rollercoaster of emotions. The acting and script were subperb. Gadd was a writer on Sex Education and he takes it up a notch here. A real breakthrough performance.

He's either brave or told a bunch of half truths or complete fabrications and got rich from it. His serious character flaws really shine through and shows how youe choices allow evil in. The choice to play himself is suspicious

What I think mostly victims of SA will catch is the excellent way the show portrays how you feel about yourself and other people after being abused. The portrayal of grooming was perfectly done. The portrayal of trauma bonding and seeking comfort from the person that abused you. Unless you’ve been in that situation, it seems nonsensical.

Richard is brilliant and brave. He went to all the dark corners and gave it all to us. It was so vulnerable- it was like he took his shame and created the best and most brilliant art as a form of healing - which also helps so many others who may watch and need to self reflect - most stalker films are so black and white- this showed so much emotional intelligence! Richard and Jessica start writing your Oscar acceptance speeches! PS Trans acceptance will hopefully take a leap forward

I loved his performance, but I have to say it would have worked better for me if someone else played Donny.
Richard Gadd is 35 years old and the vulnerablity that Donny has do to his youth being implied to be in his 20s didn't really come across for me. A point in the show is made about the age gap between Donny and Martha it is referenced over and over again abd in my opinion a vital part of the narrative. But Martha's Actor is actually just 3 years older then Donny's. And I'm sorry to say this, it shows. I took me la while to even get ther e is supposed to be an age difference between the 2 characters.
And yes I know that this is Richard's Story and he has every right to want no one other to play him. I just personally think it takes away a part from the story to not have the age gap visual and instead just paying lep service to it.

EVERY SINGLE situation he was in, was because of his own naivety, ignorance, or MOST of the time, just moronic choices. The more Martha tormented him, the funnier it got. As the problem was just so simple to solve.
