Nice, tape library's will always be cool in my book! Got a 4u HP library that I'm gonna have a hard time giving up if I ever do downsize from my rack

They’re amazingly effective for deep storage.

That flex ribbon cable is bonkers.

Seems like the movements need to be optimized. A lot of them could be combined to make it a bit faster.

Interesting that it makes unnecessary movements. Cool though!

It’s doing a lot of indexing and other operations. It’s not only moving the tapes.

Scans and makes sure it keeps track, because some stupid human might have moved a tape on it without the robot knowing.

These are so cool. I remember we had a huge Sun one at our hospital, giant purple machine the size of a server rack. It's crazy to think of all the precision that goes into making these.

I think that's the same scalar I just bought. It's slick. Big improvement over our TL3000 lto7

      This one is an i6.

@@StorageReview ahha, we went with the i3, lto8 but once LTO9 releases we purchased the pre upgrade so we'll get the LTO9 sent to us in exchange for the 8s. Can't wait. But 2xlto8 vs 1xlto7 has already halved our tape jobs. And we can add a 3rd if we need to. Sadly we're still not maxing our repositories read speeds 😂

@@TayschrennSedai very nice rig. It’s funny with all the social posts we made on this so far, how much tape is really out there.

I feel like they could have made that without the ribbon cable if they would just use wireless signal. And use the rails as positive and negative for power. Probably will last a lot longer.

Tape libraries have worked for decades. Don’t go crazy with changing the formula that needs to be rock solid.
