My favourite little bit is when Murray gets talking about the gremlins messing with his crew's equipment in WW2. What makes this such a great little detail is the fact that did actually happen. Unexplained stuff, almost exactly like what the critters did in the movie, happened to equipment in WW2. Interestingly enough, to both sides. Cars breaking down, weird noises in the night. There's even an eye witness account of a pilot who saw them on his plane. While he was flying. That, to me, is one of the best little easter eggs in that movie.

"Watch the skies" was the working title for Close Encounters also.According to the novelizations, the snow thing was explained by saying that Mogwai can't multiply with water if the outside temperature isn't a certain degree. I guess the filmmakers didn't feel it nessesary to explain that for some reason. The mogwai were also explained to be alien creatures from another planet who were created by a scientist who tried to create the ultimate animal that was lovable, smart, and easy to breed. Obviously, it didn't work, there were unforseen miscalculations with the experiment, which is where the 3 rules came from.

4:35 Funny, true story: when I was a kid and the sequel came out, me and my family watched it at the theaters during a very bad storm. It wasn't until this scene, with the Gremlins stopping the film reel, that the lights in OUR actual theater actually went off! The emergency lights came on and the theater's staff soon appeared, apologizing to everyone and telling us all we had to leave. None of us moved; everyone at the theater thought it was a prank! XD But nah, the theater actually did shut down from the power outage and we all had to leave (I don't think we got a refund). I had to wait until the movie came on TV to watch the rest of it.
Needless to say, we all had pale looks on our faces, thinking actual Gremlins caused this. :P

Forgive me for being a total Gremlins fanboy, but the Water/snow and Midnight rules have explanations that make sense. The water has to be soaked through their skin/scales for it to take effect, explaining why drinks and snow don’t work. Also, the midnight rule has a bit more elaborate of an explanation. The sun actually plays a big role in two of the three rules. Sunlight kills them, obviously, but it’s also how the midnight rule works. Midnight is opposite of noon, which is the farthest away the sun is to the Mogwai’s location. This explains how the midnight rule and its loopholes work. Time zones do take effect because of the sun’s position, so the discussion about time zones and the Mogwai travelling g and whatever in the second movie is true.

I never understood why everyone thinks Kate's backstory is so random and out of nowhere. Earlier in the movie she mentions how she doesn't celebrate Christmas and how she doesn't like the holiday season. It's because her dad died during Christmas. Granted this doesn't have much to do with the plot itself, but it's still part of her character, not just something that was brought up for no reason.

My best guess for why they can consume beer and touch snow without multiplying is either that the water needs to hit the outside of their body for them to multiply and they can consume water and other liquids just fine since it’s touching the inside of their body instead, and maybe frozen water like snow and ice won’t work on them unless it melts into a sufficient amount of water. Either that or maybe it’s because since beer is water but combined with various other ingredients, those extra ingredients alter the fluid enough to not work on Gremlins
As for why Gizmo survived out during the daylight? My best guess is that it was somewhat cloudy enough when that happened, enough to at least cover the sun from where Gizmo was, providing enough protection from its harsh light to allow Gizmo to walk freely

In the first movie, they also reference E.T. in the scene where Billy calls up his mom and urging her to get out of the house due to the Gremlins hatching out of their cocoons, and the gremlin says, "Phone home" as he disconnects the phone lines. I don't know how he knew that was from E.T. seeing how it was released in theaters 2 years prior to Gremlins, rereleased a year after Gremlins, and it wasn't even available on home video until 1988. Though he could've seen E.T. on a bootleg VHS which a lot of people ended up creating in 1983 due to E.T. not being available for home entertainment at the time.

    Here's more fun facts:
Does Kingston Falls look a little familiar? It should. It's the same set as Hill Valley in "Back to the Future".
The first movie originally featured an entire subplot about Ms. Deagle working under the table with the bank to try and take over the town. This plot thread was eventually edited out but, as a result, Judge Reinhold's character was almost completely left on the editing room floor, almost to where he himself was just a glorified cameo. Deleted scenes reveal he managed to survive the gremlin attack by locking himself in the bank vault, but was driven insane by the carnage. (I think it would have made more sense to leave that in and Kate's out-of-nowhere monologue about the worst day of her life being Christmas out...)
The crew hated working with the problematic Gizmo puppet in the first movie, especially since the script was reworked during shooting to make him a "nice" Mogwai and, therefore, needed to be present through the entire film and longer than they expected to use it. They kept a list of things they wanted to do to the puppet to vent their anger, and one of them was to tie him to a dartboard and fling darts at him. They ended up putting that in the first movie.
Grandpa Fred laments at one point that Daniel Clamp won't show old classic black-and-white horror films because he only likes color films. This is another nod to Ted Turner and his infamous push to colorize all the old classic black and white movies.

One of my favorite touches that goes sadly unnoticed here is the Flashdance reference during the bar scene. Without the knowledge that Michael Sembello sings it, it doesn't make much sense, but knowing that, it's pretty funny rather than being a random reference that doesn't go anywhere.

Someone commented on another video, saying it's possible that the "Gremlins", just like the "real" ones, don't actually exist, so the whole movie is a cover story for Billy's killing spree. The creature is purchased, many people die, then the creature is given back. The start and end of the movie is the father telling an adventure/story, yet he is barely in the movie. I'd love to see a video of you entertaining how this could be possible for the first Gremlins movie. You must consider that the details within the movie (like witnesses/cops) were not actually around during the murders.

Yeah, He has parts in his early comedy routines where he's telling the audiences how he "came across" the Voice when he accidentally started choking on a piece of birthday cake at a friend's birthday party once, when he was a lot younger. And then not long after that he got the gig for doing Bobby's world, and then went on to voice Both SKEETER AND SCOOTER from Muppet Babies, AND Gizmo. He then makes the revelation to his audiences that "have you ever listened to them all AT THE SAME TIME?? IT'S THE EXACT SAME VOICE !!!! LOL :) :) I Love that man! He's so Freaking Hilarious!!!-- His early career comedy routines are on You Tube.

In the first film I always wondered why she was serving beer to the Gremlins in the bar. When they first showed up why did she even start serving them? Did she ID them first (remember most of these things are under a day old, so not old enough to drink). Why did she continue to serve them when they didn't pay? Why didn't she leave or fight back when they started tearing the place up? I love the scene it's a lot of fun and I still enjoy watching. It's just really really weird that it happened at all.
If you were making tea in your kitchen and a bunch of Critters rolled in would offer them some?

Shawnee Longbow i guess its because in the end, some see them as Gremlins rip offs. I mean, its like how people think Ghostbusters or Indiana Jones or Star Wars are original and others ripped them off with lower budgeted films and similar titles. If Critters is a rip off, at least it goes all the way with horror and they're aliens and they aren't about dangerously mischievous behavior, they're just little killers with big appetites and the first critters movie is barely like Gremlins in so many ways.

Heh, this actually happened to my theater! When I was a kid, we watched the Gremlins 2 during a bad storm. Right around the time the Gremlins did their film gag, our theater's power actually went off and the emergency lights came on! OAO The theater's staff soon appeared and told us all to leave, but no one in the audience moved. We all thought it was a prank related to the movie. XD Eventually, we all did leave and I kept asking my parents on our way home if the Gremlins did that. :P

For that matter, I was always confused as to why the DVD version included the theater gag rather than the TV one - the TV gag makes no less sense for a DVD player than it does for a VCR, whereas the theater one only works for home viewing on the off-chance that you're watching it on a projector setup. I say make the VCR gag the one that plays during the movie, and make the theater one viewable as a DVD extra.

I would love to see NC's opinion on gremlins 2. Personally I love it, I think most of the criticism people bring up can basically be applied to the original, but they don't seem to care because of course the first is regarded as a classic meaning it apparently can't have any faults.

Here's a few things. The movie theatre does not have much luck in both Gremlins and Back to the Future. In Gremlins, it gets blown up and in Back to the Future, the Delorean crashes through the boarded up doors when Marty goes back to 1985. I wonder if it was closed down because it was blown up the year before.
In Billy's bedroom, he has an obscure poster on the wall of The Twilight Zone Movie which I'm sure Joe Dante worked on as well.
Daniel Clamp in Gremlins 2 plays a doomsday tape that is based on an actual tape that was made to be used in the final hour when the end of the world comes.

There's two scenes in the second movie that insinuate 911 happening also the movie takes place in New York in a tower. The first scene is where two news reporters stand next to each other with there broadcast microphones and one has 9 the other 11 almost touching. And then later in the film where you here a jet go by the tower but literally for no reason. I think there are others just can't remember off the top of my head. Good video!
