@@cbachinger It had the colours of the Old South African Flag. The Springbok was the emblem and mascot of Apartheid South Africa. We are in a new South Africa......Well, now the last time SAA made a profit was in 2011. They were one of the most preferred airlines in the world with some of the best landing rights. Now they are a rip off, employ pilots and crew based on skin colour and not merit and I can say that the old SAA was far better than the current!

@@manofvalour6982 I know ;) :( also weird that because of that, we are one of the few countries that doesn't use a national symbol on the tail anymore.
The best man made asset we have, won the 2019 WC with 50% representation and government still sees the bok emblem as the enemy.

@@cbachinger I don't really care about Emblems. As long as we have something that works. I don't see how a Springbok is offensive as all it was was just a National Symbol. The Nazis had an Eagle as a symbol and today they still have an Eagle.

Overrun's the word! I'm with BlueStar, fantastic! The shots with the multiple 747's are superb and remind me of my SAA A340 special, to capture the SAA 747's was always tricky because of the early/late arr/dep times. The ELAL 742 you see at the end was flying to LHR as late as 2005, these were the last of the true glory day's at Heathrow. It's a different era now, with more modern classics like the A346 and erm..... Great video Sb, look forward to seeing more this year....

The Apartheid government used to run SA very well it's just a shame they were racist. What ruined our countries in Africa is that after independence, most leaders that came after only had a huge hunger for money and not to develop. Even my country Zambia had 747s and now it's a shit show.

What do you mean basically? The taxpayer must fund them with billions every year. Corruption still mismanage the last few cents. They owe more than they have assets. Fat corrupt politicians still fly first class for free, frequently, and taking close and distant family members along for the ride. For all of its history, SAA and Heathrow's, Heathrow has been the central hub of SAA Cargo and Intercontinental. South Africa is too geographically isolated to be its own hub. The giant hangar at the center of Heathrow is the service facility run by Boeing and Rolls Royce for all SAA. Even when it started carrying adverts for HSBC and even for Virgin. The Apartheid Government in particular insisted on the highest maintenance standards for SAA especially after the Windhoek disaster affecting the first SP-747 especially made for SAA. The airline will be disappearing shortly thanks to the utter corruption and incompetence of the democratic government. Some of these aircraft are very old. The slack has been more than taken up by other airlines and this will remain the world's most prestigious air route. Very profitable and in 1922 the world's second genuine intercontinental passenger flyer: Hounslow Heath to The Rand. 1920 Imperial, same route; 1923 KLM, mud flats outside AMS ro The Rand.

South Africa would still be great if people grew conscience rather than be comfortable living in luxury while in the name of god as a vast majority of people suffer, either and die. Now everyone is at a loss and all that’ll happen is looking back and hissing at the glory days, while they live just as they’ve always lived... surviving through hardships. God is always watching and God is resetting everything.
We thank all of the white South Africans who eagerly helped and mourned the pain of its people... we truly thank you from the bottom of our souls. May God forever smile on you and your generations💙💙💙

South Africa would be great if the current communist inspired government were permanently removed and a government put in place that actually cared about the wellbeing of the people instead of their only commitment being to looting, corruption, nepotism and self enrichment...

South Africa was great precisely because the vast majority were made to suffer. Look at it today. Everyone is made to suffer. At least back then there was space for a measure of excellence.
