As a Jamaican living in St. Catharine, around 1am this morning is when the rain started in my community, we had heavy winds as the evening went on but it has not let up since the rain started, indeed this hurricane is early in season and one of the worst we've seen for years but please continue to pray for us to make it through as safe as we can be. Makes me think of hurricane that hit Galveston, Tx. Issac’s Storm. I pray that people are safe, secure and with shelter. God be with you, I wish this were not happening.
This recalls the question from the folk song about the monstrous and devastating 1900 Storm: "Wasn't that a mighty storm?" Our U.S. weather bureau was in its infancy, then, and reports from Cuba were either ignored, or dismissed altogether. The peoples of Jamaica and other islands in Beryl's path have and have had better communications and weather reportage, and know how to prep for these recurring hurricanes. Still, any loss of lives--human or other, homes, businesses, ships/boats, or infrastructure is tragic and overwhelming. Ike and Harvey were rough ones to experience, so my prayers are for the people already afflicted by Beryl, or soon to be. Be safe all, and take to what shelter you may find to hunker down in.

We are doing fine over here, so far, in Jamaica, thanking God. I think most of us have done our best in terms of preparation for the impending disaster, however, as in all things, it's still an ultimate matter of faith and trust in God that all will go well.
