i would like to say: ive been a veteran since splatoon 1, and i consider myself pretty good at this game, and it took me ACTUAL days to beat after alterna. i literally just finished it today.
The final boss (grizz) is literally the one who’s employing you for salmon run (basically, by playing salmon run, we were helping the villain all along)
So about that “hardest level”… There’s a post-game bonus level called After Alterna that unlocks after clearing all the other stages. All I’m going to say is that almost every Splatoon content creator has made a video dedicated to this single stage alone. Also, if you’re looking for Splatoon stuff outside of basic shooter gameplay, I’d highly recommend the Tableturf Battle side mode. It’s not a major focus of the game, 23:03 but it’s a surprisingly deep turn-based card game.

Btw those "Inklings" are actually Octolings which are also a playable body type in this game but these Octolings like all the Octarians have been corrupted. Basically the Octarians you see are created from the stray tentacles of Octolings (just like how severing an octopus' tentacle can still have the tentacle move around)

Sploosh is meant to get up close and almost instantly wipe someone off the map with its high fire rate. 1:34 angle your camera higher, it'll help you see where you're going. 3:56 remember that you don't have to get a full charge to fire. Partial charges can be used to pop balloons or finish an enemy with less than full health off. 5:15 you can throw a bomb into Master Mega's open moth and it'll stun him for a long time (also instantly splats Maws in Salmon Run) and you can start shooting at him. Remember that -Callie and Marie- Agent 1 and 2 will give you some hints during fights. 7:20 remember that you can press B while firing to do a dodge roll 7:57 balloon fish will pop with a lethal explosion. Use those to escape hordes of enemies. 9:35 Octolings, not Inklings. 10:10 The hardest level is the secret final level you unlock for clearing every stage in Alterna. 15:45 Barely. You get invincibility frames as you start to come back down from jumping. 18:02 AAAAAAAAAAAA 18:20 Specials, not ultimates. Also its meant for painting and keeping opponents out of an area. The damage can build up pretty fast if someone stays in the storm for too long. 21:13 you can briefly enter squid form to quickly change directions with the stamp. You can also do a swing if you press ZR while you're in the air. 24:25 The captain will actually make a comment if you don't use a single shot 25:00 There's a balloon fish right next to the goal in case you don't have enough ink to activate it. 27:44 Valid point, it is very annoying to deal with and puts you at a major disadvantage. The best way to deal with it is to shoot at the floor once, enter squid form and swim away a bit, pop out of your ink to paint the floor a bit more, rinse and repeat. The problem with the Big Man fight is that he blocks your shots from hitting the floor so you can't make an escape route. 29:11 Foreshadowing...

Other than After Alterna, my candidate for hardest level is One Way Ride Through Target Town with the recommended weapon (Tri-Stringer). I actually liked the challenge though, and it does a great job at teaching me to use the Tri-Stringer and its AOE projectiles.
Salmon run is a legitimately amazing hoard mode that's kinda easy for the lower ranks but then ramps up FAST after getting to Profreshional +1 it would be great to see a video one that,,, also it's intresting hwo you can tell how expereinced somebody is with splatoon even based on how they position the camera...(assuming they use motion controls)
As someone who has played a lot of Splatoon, this is my favorite single player campaign. It basically took everything that made both the regular Hero Modes and Octo Expansion good and just smooshed it all into one incredibly fun adventure. And that ending? That was so cool man. I especially love Wave Goodbye, the credits theme. But you aren't quite done yet. If you've beaten every level, this game's final challenge will have been unlocked: After Alterna. It's a long and difficult gauntlet, but man the lore you can see after beating it is incredible. I would also love to see you play the other campaigns, or at least what Splatoon 2's Octo Canyon and Octo Expansion, but if you were to go back to Splatoon 1 as well, maybe a multiplayer vid or 2 could be fun too, as that game is so wildly different from Splatoon 2 and 3.
i acually love how this seems to be setting a trend of having villains other than Octavio be the main antagonist. first Tartar in octo expansion and now Mr Grizz. and Between the Salmonids, the hints toward lil judd and the goldfish being up to something shady, and other potential antagonists, we got like a lot of choices for future plots without doing the "octarians stole the zapfish" plot again. also gotta lvoe how the great zapfish being stolen ISN'T that important this time around. it merely works to start subverting expectations as well as kickstart the plot, but its role in the story is pretty much msotly told via implications.

I feel what you're saying about roller. Rolling was probably the intended way to play with it, but its just not practical in multiplayer most of the time unfortunately. I think they were trying to address this with big swig, but even that one paints better with its horizontal flick. You mostly see rolling from beginners and trolls (rick-rolls lol) Well actually the brush uses its roll pretty well, but thats kinda a different thing
i remember when Failboat was joking about Nintendo Treehouse probably being the only people unable to do the pacman maze and then we have Choc forgetting melee weapons are melee weapons 3 full games in and poor guy cant remember how melee works (admittedly the Splatana does partially go against the traditional splatoon melee mold though)

The one before you beat the whole story mode is called “One way ride trough target town” it’s not that hard but harder than the rest. The one after you beat the whole story mode is called “After alterna” it is definitely one of the hardest levels and possibly harder than Girl power station back in the splatoon 2 DLC.

Idk if you knew this already, but you can tell if you finished all the levels in a site by checking the alterna logs. If the log for a site is completely finished (100%), then all the levels in that site is finished.
Choctopus don't forget there is secret keg to unlock tat finish all other stuff at all 6 maps to 100% and then return to first one and will be there secret one level
The hardest level in alterna is the secret level have fun trying to do that oh and the only way you can unlock it is by doing every single stage in alterna.
As a Splatoon veteran I'm resisting the urge to break the video down and just answer some of the questions you passively asked so you know what's going on (not in a "Umm, actually" sense, just genuine "I adore this game please let me ramble about it", haha!) but I won't because I know that'll probably be super annoying. XD But I totally relate to only playing Splatoon in short bursts, I do play daily but usually only for an hour or two unless I'm on a winning streak. There is a Splatfest happening in January, so I'd say that'd be a good excuse to jump back into Turf Wars if you're looking for one! Also yes, please play Salmon Run! It's my favourite mode and I'd love to see you learning the ropes and seeing how hectic the mode can be! :D

Usually the weapons with the higher rewards are harder (Kinda obvious) so choosing weapons with low rewards is basically going in easy mode.
