The man, the myth, the legend. RIP Hubert Selby Jr, you literary genius. I didn't know he recorded all these lines, so funny hahahaha. The book is so good.
Fuck, he had mad skills as an improvisationalist actor! Never mind writing the story behind possibly the most disturbing movie I've ever seen - this guy could act!
Hubert Selby Jr was not an actor most of the 60s and seventies he lived his life as a dope fiend its safe to say he's probably been where Marlons character is at the moment in the scene.
A great fucking man. I’ve watched the movie a couple times a few days ago and am about to start reading the actual novel. Crazy that the guard in this scene is the actual author of the original novel
Tyrone’s scene affected me the most. A lot of woman say Marion’s but in a sick twisted way she has a choice and “reward” at the end this guy is straight up goin through h****
I’m so glad I finally found someone that agrees with me. Obviously all 4 of the main character’s were screwed towards the end but Tyrone’s ending freaks me out the most. Going through drug withdrawals is horrendously terrible by its self, so the fact that he’s sentenced to hard labor on top of all that disturbs the hell out of me. When I went through drug withdrawals I was treated like a baby yet I still suffered terribly and felt like I was dying, so I can’t even begin to fathom how Tyrone feels.
@Mason F ☠️🥀 right? When I was in detox they were giving me muscle relaxers, anti anxiety, multi vitamins, phenobarbital, clonodine and medications for neusaea. Then on day 3 they put me on subutex which was amazing. Can't imagine going cold turkey while being forced to do hard labor in a shithole jail
To me, it's Sarah. She was the real victim in the entire movie, and she had lost literally everything. I know that Tyrone will suffer A LOT. Harry will probably die because the doctor said he doesn't expect him to live out the week (maybe he does survive, but he is going back to jail and will lose everything too). But her... It wasn't even her fault. She didn't know the trap she was constantly walked into.
@@hououinkyouma3864I think the doctor meant he wouldn’t live out the week IF they didn’t do something about that arm, which they obviously did, however anything’s possible, worst case scenario he ends up dying of sepsis
One time when I was in jail, the gravy to the mashed potatoes had the same nuclear green color as his vomit. It definitely wasn't vomit, and it didn't taste too bad but the color was weird. Where do jails buy this stuff?
It's in the movie, just cut up into the final montage when we see all of the characters going through hell. This is just the extended take of Wayne's perspective.
@@williamshaw9047 I thought they were caught either in Georgia or South Carolina considering the short amount of time after they had crossed 600 mi from Brooklyn. (I'm kind of hoping that it's South Carolina since it's my state)
That’s actually the author of “Requiem For A Dream”, Hubert Selby Jr, playing the guard!
Adam Hempling im glad he wanted to be part of ih

This is much more humorous than the work itself.
“You keep sweating in there and we don’t need no salt” 🤣
Lol bro
LMAO
remind me to never go to jail so i don’t have to eat someone’s sweat-and-vomit-filled mashed potatoes everyday
embowl this is your reminder to never go to jail!!
@@bunnie187 thank you, so far i am succeeding 🤞
@@musicroxeggs4 How are You doing?

When I heard "mashed potatoes" in the movie I wasn't sure if it was this scene or the one with Marion. I'm glad it was this one.
I first watched this before the film.

Real funny when you just watch the b-role by itself.
Agreed!
Oh shoot, I just realized that one playing this prison guard is the guy who wrote the book it's 22 years before this movie was made!
Damn! This dude is like 80 and he sure is good at pushing people around.
He passed away in 2004.
All time great author and could've also been an actor. Talk about talented
Awesome , cubby was the best

Ugh man honestly when I seen this scene it freaked me out. I can’t imagine the smell either
its takes places in the 80s. There a scene where there watching The Home Shopping Network.
The book was set in the 70'a but I think the film is meant to be set around the time it was made
bet that´s adlibbed
Hell I can do that with a paddle LOL

From whomever sells it cheapest. China would be a good bet

Why was this scene deleted from the movie?
It was trimmed for being too funny.

What exactly are they doing? I'm a bit confused.
Mashin taters
