The Dutch voice at the end: While the window seemed to glow with the burning colors of the orange sunset We laid at ease and watched the receding aphids They enjoy us happily, without any troubles Just like an old film which gets played backwards slowly Maybe actually more like the water in a bathtub that slides into the drain I like it here with her and I love the daily company of aphids I don't know if I'm their God, or they're mine Sometimes I think I can hear the clicking of their small legs on the wood It sounds like a song When they come, it's just like our cats jumping onto the bed They seem so content, and they always leave their troubles If they have them, home in the dark crevices of the water well So you can see that nobody really has to be alone
Aw man just seeing this! One of the reasons I'm a big fan, is because of full heavy drum sound! I just got done skiing, had a few beers and was blasting Hum on my radio on the way home. Dam that really sux.
I think it was a recording to be on a followup to DiH that fell apart after the band's tour bus was wrecked. They all felt burnt out. Hopefully it will end up on the new album.
Been my favorite band for years now. Never ever thought they'd get back together. I very well might explode in anticipation for a new album. In the meantime, Matts' other band, Centaur, will hold me over. You should check out their work as well.
HOLY SHIT!! i was just saying to myself im never guna find this one song by HUM. Its taken me more than 5 years to find this with so little as the intro melody ^.^ thank you SO MUCH for your playlist! def sub to you, this is my fav song by them!
Leviathan of power...HUM the what an ensemble of might laced in colors of light. I'm pretty sure I've listened to this more than them after all these years. Thanks for the upload.
thank you so much for uploading this song,im a huge hum fan and its impossible for me to listen to this any other way,i wish the rest ofcthe UK would catch up and make this band more famous like they deserve.
I'm so happy that this is here! I almost forgot about this song.....this song fucking rules. I saw Hum in 98 dammit they need to record another album...
interesting task reorganization with vocalist on the bass; turned out to be one of my favorite tracks I wonder what else could come of this rearrangement?
This is freaking awesome! What the hell ever happened to Hum. My guess is they got caught up in the sweeping music industry changing gears to terrible music of the 2000s.
Supposedly their label dropped them once their last album flopped (surprisingly) and they were only riding off of the success they got off of Stars which made You'd Prefer An Astronaut pretty successful. Heard they might be working on a new album though!
@@censored116 Hum was their own label. The drummer had a child and decided to back off touring so the whole band stopped touring and making new music. They would appear at random festival shows from time to time but never a full blown tour until very recently. They did run a record label that has some moderate success and at least Matt and I think one other member started teaching. They have started a small venue tour in the last year or two which sells out until the venues are bursting at the seams and there are rumors of another album. They never had an album "flop" they just enjoyed being the indie alt band that they started as and never really wanted the big fame that came with some bands. They also did come to the scene at the end of the "grunge" era and lost a lot of air play to the bubblegum pop sound that came out in the late 90s. The band is listed as an influence on many Nu metal bands like Deftones for their deep growling style guitar sound and complex lyrics.
@@baneleaf7025 thanks for the info. I had written them off as another 90's alt band I liked but would never hear from again. my hope is that they "transform, transmute, transmit" (Bill Nelson ) into the 21st century with great new music, but I won't get my hopes up.
Hum was never classified as a "space rock" or "shoegaze" band, they were kind of lumped in with the whole "grunge/alt-metal" thing in the 90s. Buy they sound more spacey than any band that was labeled space rock
@smallclone How can u even pick one? Anyway, Ive been a HUMmer since Astronaut yet somehow I havent heard this. WTF album? Stuff like this and boy with stick. WTF? Its too well produced to be off Electra
toomermcshockey That is the voice of producer Mark Rubel's wife. I forget what language he told me it was, but it's one of the Scandinavian languages, I think possibly Swedish.............
I love when the band look like they’re skipping their college class to be there and then they get up there and melt your face off. Mad respect yo
The Dutch voice at the end:
While the window seemed to glow with the burning colors of the orange sunset
We laid at ease and watched the receding aphids
They enjoy us happily, without any troubles
Just like an old film which gets played backwards slowly
Maybe actually more like the water in a bathtub that slides into the drain
I like it here with her and I love the daily company of aphids
I don't know if I'm their God, or they're mine
Sometimes I think I can hear the clicking of their small legs on the wood
It sounds like a song
When they come, it's just like our cats jumping onto the bed
They seem so content, and they always leave their troubles
If they have them, home in the dark crevices of the water well
So you can see that nobody really has to be alone
RIP Bryan. What a timeless band!

Damn never knew that.
Big Hum fan...hometown heroes.. Even went to high school with Tim Lash during their early recording times
Epic! Matt is still in that area?
i love hum and i can't believe I've never heard these two songs. thank you so much! must own
These are from a very limited release LP and not one of their full albums which is why they are VERY hard to find.
Most underrated alt-rockers ever! Damn work made me miss every show. Wish they'd do a reunion!
Favorite Hum song ever. And, Me loving Hum is an understatement.
Thank you for the upload been dying to share this song via links.
Jeff’s bass solo at the end vs the Dutchspeak is a rare gem!
Love Hum and Centaur
No idea why this wasn't on Downwards is Heavenwards... would have been one of the best songs on the album..
I think it was a recording to be on a followup to DiH that fell apart after the band's tour bus was wrecked. They all felt burnt out. Hopefully it will end up on the new album.
Kyle Crane I saw on Matt’s website some talk of a new album awhile ago but no updates. Any thoughts?
yeah the new album slays
It's on the reissue vinyl.
Please take those S's out

This artwork reminds me of Giygas from Earthbound
Named my band in college after this song. Hum was a huge influence. If you're interested, listen to "Sweet Breakdown" by Aphid on Spotify.

You're a real American hero.
I’ve got the promo 45 from my days in college radio. One of the most superb groups to have ever existed
apollo, my fav song
GREAT SONG.
This honestly has to be one of the best songs of all time. I've heard rumors of a HUM reunion and I pray they're true
Saw hum this past august, the rumors are true.
+2112iscoming Saw them in October. 10/10 I died
New album is coming, being recorded in fact they may be done
I'm literally DYING for it.
3 months later... :(
Genius
Reminds me a lot of Machina 2 by the pumpkins. Super atmospheric. These guys need to come out with new stuff.
This reminds me of Guided by Voices.
see ya there! hope they play this!
Reminds me a lot of Idlewild from 1998-2001
interesting task reorganization with vocalist on the bass; turned out to be one of my favorite tracks
I wonder what else could come of this rearrangement?
i think puppets was the same too. Hum are just incredible.

I own the b-sides on CD and I can't believe this exists
Like Smashing Pumpkins without the whining

LOL
@Matteo Ricci so are BIG Black, Naked Raygun and Ministry....
Green to Me is about as Smashing Pumpkins sounding as a band can possibly get. I wish they had the catalog the Pumpkins had

@@censored116 nope there all in the workforce of america now.
@SubliminalGlue it was a 2 song EP you got free when you cought downward is heavenward
IMO hum two best songs.
I received the EP in the mail a few years after I wrote a fan letter to the band, along with a cool sticker. One of the best surprises I've gotten.
This Shit is really spacey. That wall of sound is the Shit especially if you're stoned like I am now. 😃

@smallclone What? I'm a huge HUM fan and have NEVER seen these 2 songs. What are you talking about? How can I get this? Are you selling?
Does anyone know what that sound/instrument is that comes in at 2:27? It's quite low in the mix but its such an ear worm and I love that part.
It's a lead guitar with flanger effect on it. Sounds great for sure.
@@paratext I see, thanks. Honestly it sounded like he was playing behind the nut or something to my untrained ears.
I'm a nerd

Aren't we all
Lyrics?
What album is this from? This music is on another level.

TheIcavalera my favorite is "iron clad Lou"
@@tmurray3347 Electra 2000 is an awesome album. Iron Clad Lou, Diffuse and Shovel are my three favorites from that album.
