I remember this version of the the song after the demo came out, then Hardwired came out and I was a little disappointed what the final version sounds like! If you think THIS should have been the final version, leave a like! 👍
Haha come on guys, stop hating. It's Metallica and this song kick ass, and I see in some comments say "I'm done with Metallica", haha wtf.. just because you don't like one song. I fucking love Lords of Summer. It's a great song.
Chris Bellis People don't realise a fair chunk of the songs on St Anger are very good, some excellent riffs and some crazily good drumming from Lars (just his drum kit sounds a bit cack). Problem is the songs are just too long and when you hear edited, shortened versions they sound awesome.
Cant understand all he bullshit about the guitar tone? Its as pure a tone as you can get. Just guitar and a good tube amp with nice gain and mids. I bet half of you complainers can't even dial an amp.
***** I think he doesn't grunt because he's 51 years old, and he already hurt his vocal chords back in Garage, Inc. But yeah, people would hate him anyways.
You're pretty much right, all most metalcore/post-hardcore bands use it. But James vocals have either improved on all 2014 live version of four horsemen. But don't mention those garbage bands here, please.
Im willing bet anything that 30-20 years ago if people heard the same lyrics, same riffs, same tone, same everything they would be crying saying "best song ever"
No, they wouldn't. I'll never forget me and my friends saying that we loved 'Load', until a week later when I confessed that I was lying and really didn't like it. From there, everyone else fessed up that they were disappointed too. And Load was better than this.
GoonFanz they dont need it anymore, they have accomplished everything why do they still need that "young age aggression" to try to "be the best" when they are already up there
Unfortunately, nostalgia blinds metal fans. They're all too stuck living in the past, or "glory days", unable to see what is present and what is offered before them. It's sad, really. Give this song twenty years before it can be accepted, that's when nostalgia will kick in.
Brian Reading exactly Brian. Kill, ride, puppets, and justice were great when I first heard them and are still great. I didn't need a nostalgia factor. Watch Seattle '89 and one of their concerts now and tell me.which show is better.
I agree. Ridding of Bob rock has certainly helped their music. Don't forget even though they lost their main writers (Dave and cliff r.i.p) Bob changed the band and moved them away from their sound
To be totally honest I don't hate Bob Rock..he did his job with "Metallica" and I don't dislike "Load" and "ReLoad" I mean those records each had their solid cuts and showed that Metallica could do different shades even though they had a polished mainstream rock feel to them, I liked them..it took me a few listens and a viewing of the "Some Kind Of Monster" to fully understand "St. Anger" and with that being said, I can in a way say that Rock tried to take Metallica back to their roots with St. Anger...now that album sounds nothing like their old stuff but technically it's raw, it's heavy, it's faster and crazier than anything that appears on Load and ReLoad and it captures emotion. It just suffers from Lars' snare and the band trying to fit in with the music style of the time. I believe Rock would have done an album like Death Magnetic if given the chance.
I had this song download (on the hush hush) when it first popped up online, along with the demo and instrument only version, I've listened and played to this version A LOT, it's FUCKIN AWESOME! 🤘😈 YEAHHHH!
I have to get something out, some people may hate me for this, but LOAD and Garage inc. Are AMAZING FUCKING ALBUMS. Much of the songs like: The house Jack Built, The Outlaw Torn, Astronomy and Sabbra Cadabra are all some of my favourite songs of all time and also extremely underrated. Most Metallica fans complain about these. Metallica shits nothing but gold! - Settmeister - Rock on \m/\m/
Thank you! I've said that for years and people act like I'm crazy. And if you play guitar they are a lot of fun to play, and the tone and guitar layering on those albums was some of my favorite in their career.
Petar Milosevic I know they are not Metallica's original songs, but they made it their style, if you listen to the original version of Astronomy anyone would think they are two separate songs.
The only reasons reasons people would dislike this is because they are either far to critical and expect more then perfection (which is impossible because its a demo song), or, they are stuck in the Kill em all to black album era, and don't like the new albums simply because they were not made in the 80's and 90's. They say that DM was bad, but it wasn't. Its a fantastic album, the only reason they don't like it is because it was made after Load, they make themselves believe it to be bad. EDIT : I doubt many people are going to read this old comment but I'm just telling you I sort of disagree with this comment. I don't believe everyone who dislikes this song is close minded, if you don't like this songs that's okay. While I still think it's a good song, I understand why you might not like it, I'm happy if we all just respect each others music preferences, so take my old comment with a grain of salt.
Shamic Entertainment DEATH MAGNETIC!!!!!!! # 2 MAYBE 3RD BEST ALBUM. pEO[PLE IS CRAZY!!!!! BUT THEN AGAIN THEY ARE ENTITLE TO THEIR OPINION IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT, PLEASE DO NOT LET THE DOOR HIT'YA WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YA!!!METALLICA FOR EVER
The only issue I have with DM is the overload of volume. It kills the overall sound. Many people prefer the Guitar Hero versions of the DM songs featured in GHM. Lars shouldn't have given creative control to the mixing engineers like he said happened towards the end. But it wouldn't be the first time he made a call that damaged the quality of an otherwise fantastic album (... And Justice for All). I'm honestly a little nervous about how this new album will be mixed because the band said Rick Ruben is producing again and he's infamous for starting the "Loudness Wars" and boosting the shit out of track volume. Hopefully they don't fuck up like they did with DM's mastering.
to all the people hating on this..... THIS IS THE FIRST PASS VERSION!!!! They just slapped it together and released it (which explains the lack luster guitar tone and James' vocals at parts) HOPEFULLY (please let this be true) the version on the new album will be better
Metal-Thrash "The 2016 version of "Lords of Summer” from the studio in its full glory as originally promised" from the website. Or you can check the songs: Disc Three (Bonus) Lords of Summer (2016) Ronnie Rising Medley When a Blind Man Cries Remember Tomorrow. ..
Little late to the party but in my personal opinion the sub par production in this demo gives it some charm and character than that on the overproduced Hardwired version.
***** Dude. its a demo. like do you really expect it to be perfect quality? Whos to say this will even be on the new album. stop bitching and appreciate that they can still make good. heavy music and havent just given up. stop bitching about the DEMO, and enjoy new music.
moko9hoko I know that this is a demo, but they got already an a proffessional studio don't they? Their famous Headquaters. Why not to record something great and professional. And Metallica got all the equipment at their efforts, even the whole technology. EVEN THE TIME. Why the fuck, they can't afford for to make something sound decent on to these days?
why go through the studio production on a song thats most likely not gonna be on the new. Its just a demo. theyll either toss it or re use some of the riffs.
Everyone is giving Metallica such shit for this song. They're not in their early 20's anymore and have new ideas coming out of their asses. They've been around for 20-30 years and they have put out some great albums. Cut them some slack. I know its not Master of Puppets but its still a great song. This song is a lot better than the stupid poppy shit that's out today. Justin Bieber is making felines and breaking the law and teenager girls are all like "I still love him. Hopefully he doesn't get into a lot of trouble." Then you have Metallica. James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet, Lars Ulrich, and Robert Trujilo. They're married, raising families, making great music, and rockin' out, yet, you're still giving them shit. It should be the total other way around. When people hear Metallica, they excpect to hear something their old sound. Well sorry everyone, this isn't 20 years ago. Unless you can turn back time to where they were in their early 20's, James Hetfield could still sing like he used to then enjoy this. If this song were to be on Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, you wouldn't be giving them shit. You would be like "Holy fuck! This is amazing!" I love this song and I already know I'm going to love their new album.
I've been giving them slack for three or four albums now - it's not getting any better. As for not being 20 years old anymore? If that's affecting the "boys", maybe they should hang their instruments and quit because the same thing isn't affecting bands like Testament, Helloween or Iron Maiden (now that Bruce's been back for a while). They're as old or older (and hell, Chuck nearly died of cancer a while back) and still sound just as good as 20 years ago (when I was in my 20s)...
In my opinion, it's as good as Master of Puppets. This is a true thrash song indeed. I'll be getting new Tallica and Overkill album. Lars is not as bad to me. He's just pretty average. Don't expect Lars to be as good as Lombardo, this guy is in his 50s now. But still, he did fine in this song.
instead of getting pissed of at people for talking bad about the song, just like if you like it and stop worrying about other people please! great song BTW!!!
Megadeth, black Sabbath, Judas preist, iron maiden, Dream theater, opeth, symphony x, tool, trivium, kill switch ( 10 ) , iced earth, Celtic frost, napalm death, poison the well, lamb of god, machine head, mastodon, monster magnet, motor head, mudvayne, ( 20 ) pantera, anthrax, slayer, kreator, havok, mayhem, skeletonwitch, children of bodom, testament, van halen, (30) exodus, pink Floyd, Alice in chains, black label society, blue oyster cult, coheed and Cambria, chimaira, shadows fall, all that remains, dethklok, ( 40 ) five finger death punch, cannibal corpse, suffocation, rush, yes, led zeppelin, primus, demmu borgir, cephalic carnage, devil driver (50) boom bitch. Not all metal I thought itd be better to use different genres to prove Metallica isn't the best band ever, of any category. ;)
Het's voice in this song is sounding better than it has in years. Though it's predictable, the solo did improve. Double bass, even though it's not too great... And can't complain about Rob. My main complaints: - Shit tone/production - Wah pedal (seriously, wtf) - the intro... - again for emphasis, TONE/PRODUCTION it's a sick song, and it stands promising. Metallica got me into music, and they'll always be my #1 favorite. Can't wait for the album, I'm sure it'll be great.
The riffs, the chanting vocals, the speed and the sounds in general are closely alike to KILL 'EM ALL for me. The Lords of Summer have returned. It's been 6 years darn it!
CArlo Francesco Lopez Proximo "featuring" Metallica y Daddy Yankee. Jajajajajajajaa.
Cracks me up, all these people ripping on Metallica. They've said since way the hell back in the beginning "we do what we want to do. If you don't like it...there's the door." So, I'd like to cordially invite the haters/trolls to get the fuck out, and let the actual fans enjoy this song. Regardless of what you think about them, every single album they've ever released (including the "hated ones") have gone platinum. They are the only band in history to have 6 consecutive albums debut at #1. They are the first band in history to play on every continent. The guys in this band are all in their late 40's, early 50's, and they're still putting out shit like this! Most metal musicians are bigger pussies in their 20's than James is at 51. Also, please stop comparing them to bands comprised of people who were shitting in diapers when Kill 'em All came out...those bands most likely owe their very fucking existence to Metallica.
I agree, let the real fans enjoy, stop trying to be a hard ass behind a keyboard. Rock in rio 2015 Vegas was amazing, they played this song and it was bad ass.
I can't understand why they didn't keep the riff section at 6:40 as it was here. The extended version we hear here compared to the studio version is so superior, in my opinion. Also one of my absolute favourite metallica riffs all time
I honestly do think this song is really fucking good, but they honestly need something done in the final mix to make it a little more in your face. I think James needs to layer a couple more guitars to get that even heavier sound. It's a little flat here. Kirk's solos could use some reverb and delay to bring it out, just a couple things. Like I said, I know this isn't the final mix, but I'm just giving my hopes haha It's so close.
lolerz222 I agree, but let's keep in mind this is a demo. It sounds a bit soft and lifeless, but I think the songwriting is pretty good even though it needs some adjustments (it should be around 6 minutes, maybe some restructuring)
***** You seem upset. Pretty sure I didn't say to change anything in the composition of the song. But I gave an opinion on the internet, I should've known better, fuck me, right?
lolerz222 vocals need reverb l , drums need to be dry sounding , backing vocals , old unique solos like from master of puppets or creeping death then it would be a hit!
In my opinion, this version should have been released as a single. The guitars, drums, vocals, they all sound amazing. Kind of reminds me of St. Anger.
Guys throwing hate, am, do you know, there are thousands of bands out there? whats the point of going to every metallica video just to insult, i just dont understand, if you always say megadeth is the best, why do you loose your time coming to a metallica music video?
***** LOL please much better music my ass. they've pretty much been a verse chorus verse chorus band (zzz) since 1992. metallica are not only deeper than that but also definitely more professional. they have progressions and just in general better song structures.
***** ahaha. AHAHAHAH. HAAAHAAHAA. sorry did i read that right? metallica fans bashing megadeth? do me a favour and type in metallica vs megadeth and just look at the comments. see how intolerant, ignorant and in general just downright retarded the megadeth fans are. I for one love Megadeth but metallica is in my opinion superior. and none of megadeth's stuff is technical anymore, again hasn't been since rust in peace. if metallica went downhill after master of puppets then megadeth did after rust in peace.
***** countdown to extinction couldn't get more simplistic and united abominations (accurate name) was a filler fest from back to front. and to be honest i prefer the term "defending" metallica against moronic fanboys like yourself. this is better than anything megadeth has put out since 2009.
Shaun Of the Dead I like megadeth, but for me they are not the kind of band i will listen to much, their songs get boring after listening to them for an hour or two, i just dont know, i have tried to, but i just can stand megadeth style for a long period of time, i think is just a matter of taste´s , about the music, i dont find their songs to good on the instrumental side, even though i do think their lyrics are good, im not bashing megadeth, but i prefer metallica, just dont get the point of arguin with each other, i mean, if a megadeth fan tell me to stop listening to metallica, am not going to do it xD works the same for both sides, i dont know if they understand that bashing a band is not going to change the fans point of view, sorry if i dont explain myself well, my english is not so good
I don't care what people say, I love this song. It sounds so raw, as if there was little editing and as if it was take straight out of the studio. Love It!
I'd bet Metallica releases 1 or 2 more albums before retirement, it's math! They tour each album so much, they are nearly 60 years old now, it's looking grim! I'm sad! 😭
this songs pretty damn good and definitely takes metallica back to the 80s roots of original thrash. Im willing to bet that whenever the album with this track on it drops, a bunch of haters will actually enjoy this song. When the effects are refined and its not just rough guitar this song will sound fantastic, im sure of it
Being the biggest, most influential rock/metal band that is Metallica.. you can't impress everyone because people expect so much from them. They're allowed to do what they want and sound like whatever they want to, you can dislike it or like it. I don't give a shit.. You're allowed your own opinion. But why bring Megadeth up? They're all great musicians with an insane amount of musical talent. I really dig this song and I'm really glad they're all still going. \m/
I love the fact that there are so many haters here .. I am a true Metalifuck and this is fucking awesome going back to more of their old guitar sound and drum sound this is a good turn of events for Metallica ... Keep rockin' praise the metal gods for Metallica
This is so good. Haters can hate, but this has a sound that is completely different than anything else out..becasue of fucking METALLICA.....LONG LIVE TALLICA...
hell yes, at they end of the day, its not like they will destroy metallica for posting comments on a youtube video xD i have learn to listen what i fucking want, and that makes me happy cause i dont get offended or feel bad because of hate comments, for me metallica will always be my favorite band, long liveeeee metallica!
The reason the solo isn't that great, is because Kirk had to quickly slap something together. He didn't have much time. To be honest, this is great for a quick job. He said he would re-work it. Man, from what I've seen Metallica has a lot of critical fans.
Well yeah when your first 5 Albums are all considered classics then fans have very high expectations.. But the fire in their belly's died long ago which is why we get songs like Lords of Summer instead of Master of Puppets. Ohwell I'd rather them make mediocre music every 5 years than not make music at all yeno?
Yeah, but they still have it. They just went in different directions every one. But the problem is, it's like every 5 years before we get new material.
Chris Breen dude , no one in the whole universe would be able to make songs like Master of Puppets and One , not even Metallica themselves , these two songs are simply masterpieces
Got an 8 min song and only a 30 sec portion contains a "lil bit of thrash.". Sad ain't it. Prob why Metallica is headlining Lollapalooza this year. Check out Overkills newest White Devil Armory for a full 56 minutes of quality thrash!!!
Eric Metal you thrash elitist are fucking embarrassing. if they bands want to do something other than thrash you guys just moan how its not Fucking SLAYER show us ye horns \m/ true metal
Then go find it, you don't have to stand and explain why something is not heavy or why it sucks if that's really what you're seeking, there are fucking thousands of thrash bands out there, go take a surf on the internet and find some of them
x1ic1x Hahaha? Super Collider? You mean the poorest Megadeth album since risk? All of those songs were mediocre and uninspiring. (Nah, but really I liked Super Collider, it was just uninspiring and well.. a step back from their previous album). In my own opinion I think this song has some elements that we haven't seen in Metallica yet, but also a lot that we have seen and that makes the song good in my opinion, it experiments with a little mix. Each to his own, not everything can be perfect.
not a bad song, cant wait to hear the version on the new album, but i sure do miss there old writing style. after the black album, things went down hill.
Lars is really disappointing me with his drumming now, this song honestly is GREAT...I'm loving all the guitars, bass and vocals work that's coming out of metallica lately, but lars just isn't doing it for me anymore. BEFORE I GET FLAMED I'm a drummer myself, been playing for 5 and 1/2 years and I started with Lars as my main idol for wanting to be a drummer. I solely played Zildjian cymbals because that was the brand that lars used and I bought a Tama snare drums so that I could get close to having a full Tama drum kit, which was the brand that lars uses. I own every metallica CD and have listened to every song a number of times. so I think I deserve to at least have this opinion. I repeat. I AM A FAN OF LARS. But as the albums have gone on, I've seen a serious decline in his playing ability. Kill em' all thru justice was his prime, but on the black album and on, lars is still playing great! Hell, even load and reload (which I love because of the experimental sound they tried) are great too...and St. Anger for that matter, I LOVED all of his playing and never found anything flawed with his playing. Death Magnetic was another great one, and was the first album I listened to by metallica before listening back to their entire discography. Beyond Magnetic was where I started to notice a lack in his style. HOWEVER, since Beyond Magnetic was noted as "the songs that didn't make it on to DEath Magnetic", I put that aside because it seemed like those songs were only released to hold us fans off until the new album came out. Then I see this, this song just shows everything I feared for metallica, I'm sorry to say this...and I KNOW i will get flamed for it but he just sucks now, he's using the most conventional basic beats he could possibly choose and he just seems lazy as a drummer to me now. Most drummers start off bad and get better as the years go on, but Lars seemed to start off amazing and just go completely terrible. He had the talent at one point to play complex metal drums, anyone can hear that by giving justice a listen to, but again...I really just don't like his playing anymore. I feel like he's just riding off of the fame that Metallica now has and is taking advantage of that. He certainly knows that the fans want a new album and I just feel like he knows that we'll just buy anything new from them, so he won't have to "give it his all". That's just a speculation. I really am hoping he's just being lazy honestly. Because if this is his serious side of drumming now, in the year 2014...then I can't look up to him anymore. I understand lars is old and he's been playing for years...but there are SO MANY other drummers who are aging and can still play amazing...and who are even getting BETTER. With all that said...that was my standpoint speaking as a musician. I will always be a metallica fan, and you better believe i'm buying this album day one when it comes out. I just feel like this needed to be said.
It's really sad that if you post a comment where you talk about something "negative", you're getting thousands of flames and stuff like that. And it doesn't even need to be anything negative before someone comes and says something like "But can you play better" or stuff like that lol. Everyone has own opinions of everything, i just can't get it. I really agree with you with those drums.
Abdullah Hodhod Absolutely. There's many drummers in the world which are better than Lars. Metallica is still the worlds biggest and famous thrash metal and nothing can change that. They had their best times especially when the Black Album came out. If you would replace Lars with another drummer, it wouldn't be "Metallica" anymore. Metallica needs Lars Ulrich, it takes his own touch to these songs anyway. It wouldnt sounds like Metallica anymore if Lars would've kicked away or something like that.
first off, clever username! and secondly, it certainly has an old-school 'Kill em All' vibe to it. Although it would fit on the album, I don't think it sounds like 4 Horsemen.
Frank Einstein There is definitely something about not only the raw sound (but it is a demo), but also some song writing aspects. Hey, if the album turns out better than Death Magnetic I will be happy.
i dont say it sounds like 4 horsemen like spot on or so, its just that kinda style :D and thanks for the username thing :D:D Thats my band, check em out on youtube :D i liked all nightmare long tho
Im glad someone else said this sounds like it's off of a classic rock album... this song reminds me of sabbotage-era sabbath, the chorus especially. Its amazing !!! That slower riff ".....come drain darkness for the sun" part, sounds classic rock-ish to me !! I FUCKING LIKE THIS SONG. I hope this song is a glimpse of the next album :-) Tallica forever !!
The problem is that they invented this kinda music, but they have been surpassed musically by all the young bands. Its the natural order. New bands take the proto-stuff and improve on it. Just like Metallica Took Diamond Head and Improved on it. That makes the original guys sound kinda lame. I'm sure Trivium can play "Master" much better than Metallica. Its just like how when Slayer came out they were as fast as u could get, but then Sepultura et al came out and Slayer sounded slower. It's the Natural order. Doesn't mean Metallica sucks, u just gotta judge them for who they are and what they do now. Sounded like a decent song. They peaked at Ride and Master in my opinion, and they will never get there again. Who will? They won. They took a new kinda music and made it huge. They have the right to do whatever they want. Don't understand the hate. Imagine what heavy music would be like right now if there had been no Metallica. Scary. It would be Hair Metal or Nickleback or some shit...
"Imagine what heavy music would be like right now if there had been no Metallica. Scary. It would be Hair Metal or Nickleback or some shit..." Bullshit. Not to take anything away from Metallica, but you already had bands like Maiden, Priest, Motörhead and lots of other NWOBHM bands, as well as fast hardcore punk like Discharge and darker metal bands like Venom and Merciful Fate coming out at that time. The thrash metal wave of the 80's would have existed without Metallica because bands would have been started all over the world anyway, in order to take it a step further and be faster and heavier than the ones I mentioned. No offense to you or Metallica (RTL is one of my favorite records) and not to say that Metallica wasn't influential, but you make it sound like thrash-, death-, black-, doom metal etc would not have existed today without Metallica.
Definitely has a kill em all/ride the lightning feel. Four Horsemen feel. I'm lovin it. Tiny bits of work to be done but damn near complete none the less. If you can't start bobbing your head by half way through you're nuts! \m/
I certainly hope that their new album is diverse, Kill 'Em All was repetative as hell. One song or two with that hardness is great, but man you need something else to give it some variety.
@@markandersen793 of course, Dave wrote all of Kill 'Em All. He also wrote every Deep Purple song, every Bach's piece, and he also invented the wheel, democracy, the light bulb, the engine, the telescope and Roman aqueducts.
Haters gunna hate. Metallica isn't for the narrow minded people that want to hear the same thing over and over again. Bad ass intro. This has a lot of old school feel. Epic!
stan lee TRUE MY FRIEND OF MISERY. FUCKING PEOPLE DONE LEAVE LOAD AND RELOAD ALONE EVENTHOUG IT CAME OUT ALMOST 20 YRS AGO FOR CRYING OUT LOUD..1AND THEN WAS ST ANGER OH WELL DONT BUY THE FUCIKING ALBUM. AND I DISLIKE ST ANGER
The sound quality is pretty bad (due to it being a first pass) and its just missing something. I don't know what but the album version really made me realize how awesome this song is.
Eh, it's pretty good. Really not crazy about Hetfields vocals but they are getting old. Not really crazy about the title BUT I'm very interested on what else is coming. I mean since we haven't heard anything new from metallica since 2008 it has me excited for what else they have on the CD.
+dnickwoodhome13 Something that i have noticed about James vocals are that the microphone he has been using recently does a couple of things to it. It muffles his voice. If you listen to him live and then go and watch anything from 86-93 you'll notice that he uses the classic on stage microphone. And when you listen to him sing, it sounds live and spacious. and less muffled. (this in part obviously has to do with how they recorded live. but it's still muffling his voice either way) Listen to any track from "through the nether Movie live album" and in between songs when he's talking to the audience and he's breathing you can hear how muffled and weird it sounds. It's too bad, because it seems like the microphone he's been using recently is a favorite of his even though it sounds pretty bad. It compresses the dynamics of his voice and causes muffling to occur. It's either his microphone or how he sings into it. He stuffs his face into the microphone sometimes. - - - this is just an observation and I could be talking out of my ass. but to me, it seems like his microphone of choice has really hindered the sound of their recordings.
This song reminded me when in 1989 they stopped in the THE STONE BALLOON in newark de i live 1.5 miles from there and while changing the TH350 trans in my hotrod camaro outside i heard them like they were in my back yard nice and loud it was the good ole days
At 4:48 the lead has some feed back on the sustained note, but the feed back changes pitch. Does anyone know how this pitch change was achieved? Or maybe it was on accident, idk. I'm self producing my first album, and there's a section of a song where I want the feed back to ring out a little. Like on James Hetfield's solo on "Suicide and Redemption." I wanna play around with the pitch change, but I'm not sure how it was done. Unless the pitch change itself was a separate track faded in? Idk, any suggestions?
Piss off, haters and trendy sheep-like "let's jump on the bash Lars bandwagon" douchebags - this is a fucking awesome high energy song with some kick-ass riffing, killer grooves and time changes, a ripping solo from Kirk, and great vocals and lyrics. And I've been a Metallica fan and a musician since 1983, so I actually have an informed opinion and am knowledgeable in all aspects of the band and all aspects of Metal, unlike most of the clueless idiotic newbie kids/trolls who talk shit about them just for the sake of talking shit. The only negative thing I have to say about this song is that the guitar sound could be heavier and crunchier, like on Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets - their guitars have been too clean on the last few albums.
Travis Brimstone Dude, do you know anything about music? This song has at least 4 different parts/riffs and time changes, plus the lead guitar solo section.
And lots of big talk about you being able to play Metallica songs, etc, but no proof - anyone can claim anything on the internet, dude. I could make ridiculous claims that I can kick the UFC champion's ass with one punch, etc, which is pretty much how your ridiculous and totally unsubstantiated claims sound. I however actually have music from my bands up on RUclips where I'm playing bass, guitar and singing lead. Where is yours? You don't even have a picture, kid. Hence why I say that you should just stfu until you can back up your ridiculous claims. And I also suggest that you never say the word "BPM" to any real Metal musician or they're going to laugh out loud at your geek ass. Peace out \m/
One more thing - allow me to break this song and it's time changes down section by section for your dense dumbass self in hopes that you may actually learn something and not put your foot in your mouth when it comes to music in the future: 0:00 to 0:41 is the slow heavy ( quarter time ) intro, then the main Thrash Metal-style verse riff comes in, which is at least 3 to 4 times the speed of the intro ( once again, speed/tempo being dictated by snare drum, which is how the pace of any song is judged ). At the 2:16 mark, the slow chorus comes in which is at roughly the same tempo as the intro, but with a completely different riff. The song then picks up with another fast verse at the 2:55 mark, then back to the slower chorus section at 3:50. Then briefly back to the fast verse riff for a half-measure until the heavy groovin' mid-paced 4/4 breakdown section comes in at the 4:35 mark, which is a drastic change in tempo AND time signature for the song - anything but boring. The harmony pre-lead intro section then comes in at 4:48 with a return to the fast verse Thrash beat at the 5:24 min mark, then again back to the mid-paced breakdown section starting at 6:05 for Kirk's lead, then another time change to half-time at 6:25, then yet another time change to a varying mid/fast/mid-tempo "Disposable Heroes" style section after the solo ends at the 6:44 mark , then the song goes back into a refrain of the chorus and a brief refrain of the fast verse part, then the ending. So overall 5 sections and 5 - yes, count 'em FIVE drastic tempo changes in the song. Lesson over.
Travis Brimstone Dude, you're proving what a total musical imbecile you are - the tempo of any song is dictated by the drums, and nothing else. Also, the guitar riffs on the verses are way faster than on the choruses, etc. Uh, how about a recording on a cheap phone or webcam like millions of others do? Just stfu and admit that you're just some lame geeky trolling kid who's a wannabe musician that can't play a fucking note, and stop acting like you know what the fuck you're talking about because it's painfully apparent that you don't. You almost like a parody of false statements and misinformation.
Travis Brimstone Also, pretty much every great classic Metal song in history ( before drop tunings and 7 string guitars came into the picture in the 90's, that is ) is in the key of E or A , because those are the two lowest strings on the guitar - hence why most Rock and Metal guitarists base their rhythms on those strings and in those keys. You really rode the short bus, didn't you? Also, the "Wherever I May Roam" riff is based on the E Phrygian scale/mode, and most Metallica songs ( as well as most Metal songs ) use either that mode or the Locrian, and Aeolian ( natural minor ) modes, as well as the pentatonic and blues scales combined. Also, pretty much all of their songs on Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets and ...And Justice For All used multiple modes and keys, as well as many odd times signatures . Try reading this, from drumlessons, com : "Odd-time signatures are another one of Lars Ulrich’s specialties. The coolest thing about Lars Ulrich is that he transitions between them smoothly so it seems like they aren’t even there. If you want a great example of this ability of his, you’ve got to listen to “Blackened” from …And Justice For All. The song starts in 5/4 odd-time signature but quickly moves to 4/4, 7/4 and 6/4 odd-time signatures during the intro section. The verses are played almost entirely in 6/4. They only change in the last few bars by going from 6/4 to 7/4 and then into a one-bar drum fill in 2/4, before going into a 4/4 chorus. In the same line of Lars Ulrich’s ability to move between different odd-time signatures is his love for twisting the listener’s brain by turning the beat around. He does so by moving the backbeat from counts 2 and 4 to counts 1 and 3. This is a great way of mixing things up by giving the apparent feel of a time-signature change. This is quite noticeable in the instrumental section of the song “The Frayed Ends Of Sanity” from …And Justice For All. In the 8th bar of the instrumental portion, Lars Ulrich plays three unison strokes between the snare drum and the crash cymbals. This series of unison strokes starts on count 4 and ends on count 1 of the following bar. He does so to displace the backbeat to counts 1 and 3 for the following 15 bars. After this, Lars Ulrich plays a 2/4 bar that brings the backbeat back to counts 2 and 4. Very ingenious and a quite interesting concept to study and incorporate into your playing, no matter the style of music you play." Jesus, kid - I'm gonna have to start charging for theory lessons here. You really seriously should take the time to research and learn about what the fuck you're talking about before you post, because as I said before, you're putting your foot in your mouth time and time again with your completely inaccurate comments.
All these haters should be happy Metallica is still making music. Go turn on the fucking radio and have a listen, then you'll have some shit music to complain about. This is the best Metallica song post Black Album.
I meant the sound of the black album, not the material. The black album is one of the best sounding metal albums from a production stand point. The guitars sounded heavy as fuck and the drums were thick as fuck
I remember this version of the the song after the demo came out, then Hardwired came out and I was a little disappointed what the final version sounds like! If you think THIS should have been the final version, leave a like! 👍
Fuck yeah
This sounds much more raw and the Hardwired version sounds too polished
Definitely better. Sounds more Death Magnetic, which is my personal favorite album by Metallica.
Both are good , but the hardwired version was way overproduced in my opinion. This is the version I prefer as well 😄
I agree
Haha come on guys, stop hating. It's Metallica and this song kick ass, and I see in some comments say "I'm done with Metallica", haha wtf.. just because you don't like one song.
I fucking love Lords of Summer. It's a great song.
Michael Thompson St Anger wasn't actually that bad, it just suits a certain mood is all.
i fuckin love it.
Chris Bellis People don't realise a fair chunk of the songs on St Anger are very good, some excellent riffs and some crazily good drumming from Lars (just his drum kit sounds a bit cack). Problem is the songs are just too long and when you hear edited, shortened versions they sound awesome.
Vincent Barker THANK YOU. sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes st.anger.
PokemonSprites1996 i like the version with modified drum ( in shows ) st-anger new version is just AWESOME!!!
I wonder what the lords of winter, fall and spring have to say about this
lel
captn hanky this comment is underrated
captn hanky Lords of Seasons
Dave Mustain is probably ready to write the song telling of their triumphs.
they shall mind their own business
Cant understand all he bullshit about the guitar tone?
Its as pure a tone as you can get.
Just guitar and a good tube amp with nice gain and mids.
I bet half of you complainers can't even dial an amp.
Word!! U said it yo
its a great tone i think but for this style its a little lacking.
AMEN.
Most of these punks probably have 3 metal zones active in a chain, all mids scooped.
It sounds like kill em all kinda
James' voice here. Oh. My. God. W... What year is it? Holy fucking fuck. JAMES' BEAST VOCALS ARE BACK, PEOPLE!
***** I think he doesn't grunt because he's 51 years old, and he already hurt his vocal chords back in Garage, Inc.
But yeah, people would hate him anyways.
***** I think lonely sounds more poetic, and that's kinda the idea of the lyrics. But then again, that's just me, too.
***** Hm... sounds good, but it doesn't fit with the track.
It is back though, but sadly it's just the effects of pitch corrector.
Give this song twenty years before it can be accepted, that's when nostalgia will kick in.
tylesaintcool : It's been 20 years. We still don't like Load.
Brian Reading exactly Brian. Kill, ride, puppets, and justice were great when I first heard them and are still great. I didn't need a nostalgia factor. Watch Seattle '89 and one of their concerts now and tell me.which show is better.
I honestly like this version so much more than what's on the album
I actually prefer this version. I liked the long middle section and was pretty disappointed when they shortened it in the new version.
also kirks solo in the newer version doesn't get me better than this
I like this version over the Hardwired version as well! 🤘 The new versions lyrics are a tad lame and the riffs change is a little off balance as well!
same
Better than the album version...
Yes
For shizzle mcrizzle
This is great, I love the classic sound to it.
I hope the new album sounds like this.
At fucking last someone writes something worth reading!!!!!
I believe Rock would have done an album like Death Magnetic if given the chance.
turkeytits179 their main writers? ok about cliff but c´mon you people give dave too much credit just because he co-wrote a few songs...
turkeytits179 Mustaine has 6 writing credits. To call him one of their "main writers" is seriously foolish.
6:44 Leper Messiah 2014
7:05 Metal Militia 2014
0:00 Lords of Summer 2014
this is metallica's style, lars' style of drumming. nobody should complain of this !!
man the dual guitar solo sounds so much better than the final one. why did they change it?
Why are so many people hating on this song? I haven't been able to stop listening to it for almost a year!
Oh and don't forget about songs like Carpe Diem Baby, The Cure, Fixxxer, etc.
You do realize that "Garage Inc." is a cover album? Just asking, because you mentioned some of the songs that are not Metallica's...
Petar Milosevic I know they are not Metallica's original songs, but they made it their style, if you listen to the original version of Astronomy anyone would think they are two separate songs.
MainElement™
Yeah, Astronomy is a nice one. I like how they covered Die, Die My Darling, since I love Misfits a lot. It's a cool album.
Lol yea pretty much people like that are delusional hahaha XD
Shamic Entertainment DEATH MAGNETIC!!!!!!! # 2 MAYBE 3RD BEST ALBUM. pEO[PLE IS CRAZY!!!!! BUT THEN AGAIN THEY ARE ENTITLE TO THEIR OPINION IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT, PLEASE DO NOT LET THE DOOR HIT'YA WHERE THE GOOD LORD SPLIT YA!!!METALLICA FOR EVER
Shamic Entertainment 100% right all they just fucking hater cunts
+Shamic Entertainment death magnetic was awesome. i just never liked the Load albums. the first Load was shit and Reload had some songs i liked.
to all the people hating on this.....
THIS IS THE FIRST PASS VERSION!!!!
They just slapped it together and released it (which explains the lack luster guitar tone and James' vocals at parts)
HOPEFULLY (please let this be true) the version on the new album will be better
They re-recorded it for the new album :)
Where did you get that information bro ?
Metal-Thrash lol they are releasing a new album and lords of summer is on the bonus disc.
I know that Lords of Summer is the first track on the bonus disc, but my question was how does he know that it will be re-recorded ?
Metal-Thrash "The 2016 version of "Lords of Summer” from the studio in its full glory as originally promised" from the website. Or you can check the songs:
Disc Three (Bonus)
Lords of Summer (2016)
Ronnie Rising Medley
When a Blind Man Cries
Remember Tomorrow.
..
If this was released by Slayer or Megadeth everyone would love it... smh.
this comment......this is literally what i've tried to tell everyone ever for the past 7 months and it always shuts them up good :)
*****
it's funny because super collider.
***** Porra, tu vem me dizer isto kkk olha o Super Collider man kk q bosta é aquela....voce devia rever teus conceitos man
***** meça suas palavras parceiro
***** I feel so bad for Anthrax sometimes... they don't get enough recognition...
4:36 is one of my top 10 favorite metallica riffs
This version is actually way better than the one on Hardwired
No
Not in production, obviously, but the middle section and solo are better in this version.
Little late to the party but in my personal opinion the sub par production in this demo gives it some charm and character than that on the overproduced Hardwired version.
If this was released 20 years ago, everyone would be like: ''OMG, such a masterpiece!''.
***** Dude. its a demo. like do you really expect it to be perfect quality? Whos to say this will even be on the new album. stop bitching and appreciate that they can still make good. heavy music and havent just given up. stop bitching about the DEMO, and enjoy new music.
moko9hoko well said, good sir!
new music is better than NO music
moko9hoko I know that this is a demo, but they got already an a proffessional studio don't they?
I think i love you....;)
Thank god someone agrees!
They're as old or older (and hell, Chuck nearly died of cancer a while back) and still sound just as good as 20 years ago (when I was in my 20s)...
couldnt said it better myself!
Am I the only one who really likes that riff at 1:20 or whatever. It just feels right.
I Like it bro
i love that part because it has a galloping horse beat
The whole of minute number 5 is my fav...
Jarrett Cardinal it’s like Barracuda but with a more thrashy riff.
You hear their rhythm and solos and then you remember why Metallica is the best band ever :')
instead of getting pissed of at people for talking bad about the song, just like if you like it and stop worrying about other people please! great song BTW!!!
You can't say there is a better heavy metal band out there until hell freezes over. Long live Metallica!!!!! \M/
I can name 50 right now.
Travis Brimstone Do it then
Megadeth, black Sabbath, Judas preist, iron maiden, Dream theater, opeth, symphony x, tool, trivium, kill switch ( 10 ) , iced earth, Celtic frost, napalm death, poison the well, lamb of god, machine head, mastodon, monster magnet, motor head, mudvayne, ( 20 ) pantera, anthrax, slayer, kreator, havok, mayhem, skeletonwitch, children of bodom, testament, van halen, (30) exodus, pink Floyd, Alice in chains, black label society, blue oyster cult, coheed and Cambria, chimaira, shadows fall, all that remains, dethklok, ( 40 ) five finger death punch, cannibal corpse, suffocation, rush, yes, led zeppelin, primus, demmu borgir, cephalic carnage, devil driver (50) boom bitch. Not all metal I thought itd be better to use different genres to prove Metallica isn't the best band ever, of any category. ;)
Travis Brimstone aaaand none of them is better than Metallica
Travis Brimstone aaaand none of them is better than Metallica
Het's voice in this song is sounding better than it has in years.
Though it's predictable, the solo did improve.
Double bass, even though it's not too great...
And can't complain about Rob.
My main complaints:
- Shit tone/production
- Wah pedal (seriously, wtf)
- the intro...
- again for emphasis, TONE/PRODUCTION
it's a sick song, and it stands promising.
The riff at 6:45 is insane
The part at 4:48 is much better here, in my opinion. Like MUCH better. The pause that was shortened in the album version seems essential to me.
CArlo Francesco Lopez Proximo "featuring" Metallica y Daddy Yankee. Jajajajajajajaa.
Much better than the newest version, damn...
Metallica could give everyone in the world a million Dollars and people on youtube would complain about it. This Song Rocks and so does Metallica!!!
Elegantly put fellow Metallica fan!
wise words
CLAPS HANDS
The Metal One oh yeah all said, all bow to Metallica!!!!!
Like I said, I know this isn't the final mix, but I'm just giving my hopes haha
It's so close.
lolerz222 I agree, but let's keep in mind this is a demo. It sounds a bit soft and lifeless, but I think the songwriting is pretty good even though it needs some adjustments (it should be around 6 minutes, maybe some restructuring)
*****
You seem upset.
Pretty sure I didn't say to change anything in the composition of the song.
But I gave an opinion on the internet, I should've known better, fuck me, right?
lolerz222 Check out the Glitch Mob's remix of this song, they just released it.
lolerz222 vocals need reverb l , drums need to be dry sounding , backing vocals , old unique solos like from master of puppets or creeping death then
it would be a hit!
lolerz222 and they don't remember memory remains demo lol
I'm impressed with Lars' drumming capabilities on this. Rhythmic and loose as usual, I dig it.
This 1st pass edition is the best of this song the solo is awesome sounds like a bunch of old songs into one This is TRUE METALLICA METALLICA RULES
This new song is amazing. Metallica rules!!! They played it live in their concerts and the crowd just loved it.
this is actually not to bad ,i'm impressed
In my opinion, this version should have been released as a single. The guitars, drums, vocals, they all sound amazing. Kind of reminds me of St. Anger.
Guys throwing hate, am, do you know, there are thousands of bands out there? whats the point of going to every metallica video just to insult, i just dont understand, if you always say megadeth is the best, why do you loose your time coming to a metallica music video?
lol and for the record, megadeth AREN'T better. there is no logical argument that can support megadeth being superior. just pure idiocy.
*****
LOL please much better music my ass. they've pretty much been a verse chorus verse chorus band (zzz) since 1992. metallica are not only deeper than that but also definitely more professional. they have progressions and just in general better song structures.
*****
ahaha. AHAHAHAH. HAAAHAAHAA. sorry did i read that right? metallica fans bashing megadeth? do me a favour and type in metallica vs megadeth and just look at the comments. see how intolerant, ignorant and in general just downright retarded the megadeth fans are.
I for one love Megadeth but metallica is in my opinion superior. and none of megadeth's stuff is technical anymore, again hasn't been since rust in peace. if metallica went downhill after master of puppets then megadeth did after rust in peace.
*****
countdown to extinction couldn't get more simplistic and united abominations (accurate name) was a filler fest from back to front. and to be honest i prefer the term "defending" metallica against moronic fanboys like yourself. this is better than anything megadeth has put out since 2009.
Shaun Of the Dead I like megadeth, but for me they are not the kind of band i will listen to much, their songs get boring after listening to them for an hour or two, i just dont know, i have tried to, but i just can stand megadeth style for a long period of time, i think is just a matter of taste´s , about the music, i dont find their songs to good on the instrumental side, even though i do think their lyrics are good, im not bashing megadeth, but i prefer metallica, just dont get the point of arguin with each other, i mean, if a megadeth fan tell me to stop listening to metallica, am not going to do it xD works the same for both sides, i dont know if they understand that bashing a band is not going to change the fans point of view, sorry if i dont explain myself well, my english is not so good
Pretty good for a demo, love the ride the lightening / justice feel, I can hear a hint of the song escape to it at the end of the chorus too
I don't care what people say, I love this song. It sounds so raw, as if there was little editing and as if it was take straight out of the studio. Love It!
No history in this yet. Give it 30 years and people be complaning about how metallicas 100 album isnt as good as lords of summer XD
I'd bet Metallica releases 1 or 2 more albums before retirement, it's math! They tour each album so much, they are nearly 60 years old now, it's looking grim! I'm sad! 😭
@@bulldogtonyyt1116 "But we'll never stop, we'll never quit, 'cause we're Metallica"
@@sh4rpys With iron hips, bionic grip's, cause they're Metallica! 🤣🤣🤣
this songs pretty damn good and definitely takes metallica back to the 80s roots of original thrash. Im willing to bet that whenever the album with this track on it drops, a bunch of haters will actually enjoy this song. When the effects are refined and its not just rough guitar this song will sound fantastic, im sure of it
Agreed
+VS0097 as long as it doesnt clip as much as death magnetic
You can get it on itunes
This is very similar to some songs from Kill 'Em All.
Chris Breen dude , no one in the whole universe would be able to make songs like Master of Puppets and One , not even Metallica themselves , these two songs are simply masterpieces
stinkydo0d Its almost 7 years since DM was released :(
stubones
I know. It sucks. Hopefully the new album will be amazing.
Man I would love to hear this with the guitar tone from the Black Album.
and the drum tone from master of puppets
or maybe justice for all perhaps?
why dont they use that tone anymore?? at least the justice one...it would be sound so much better.
Yet another good song crafted by one of the all time great bands that has ever been. It will be added to my vinyl collection on black friday.
This song was badass live as Rock in rio Vegas 2105. 3 time seeing them and can't what to see them with the new album tour.
6:44 to 7:15 a lil bit of thrash
Got an 8 min song and only a 30 sec portion contains a "lil bit of thrash.". Sad ain't it. Prob why Metallica is headlining Lollapalooza this year. Check out Overkills newest White Devil Armory for a full 56 minutes of quality thrash!!!
Why does it have to be thrash to be good?
This IS Metallica we're talking about, right?
Eric Metal Why the fuck are you here if you don't like it?
Eric Metal you thrash elitist are fucking embarrassing. if they bands want to do something other than thrash you guys just moan how its not Fucking SLAYER show us ye horns \m/ true metal
Better than the 2016 version, that's for sure!
We ain't hating... We just want something good and heavy!
Then go find it, you don't have to stand and explain why something is not heavy or why it sucks if that's really what you're seeking, there are fucking thousands of thrash bands out there, go take a surf on the internet and find some of them
Have you listened to Megadeth's new song Super Collider? That's some heavy Hard Rock I tell you what.
x1ic1x Hahaha? Super Collider? You mean the poorest Megadeth album since risk? All of those songs were mediocre and uninspiring.
(Nah, but really I liked Super Collider, it was just uninspiring and well.. a step back from their previous album).
In my own opinion I think this song has some elements that we haven't seen in Metallica yet, but also a lot that we have seen and that makes the song good in my opinion, it experiments with a little mix.
Each to his own, not everything can be perfect.
This kicks ass!
Jesper Uhlin Clearly you don't get sarcasm...
This song is growing on me. A cross between rock and thrash.
I wouldn't change a goddamn thing about this song! This is true old school-ish Metallica and I fucking love it!
not a bad song, cant wait to hear the version on the new album, but i sure do miss there old writing style. after the black album, things went down hill.
Am I the only one that likes the raw sound?
Judging by the name, i suspected a tropical house dance song with some guitars hahaha
motherfuckers drop the pressurreeeeeeeeeeee

U want a scolarship? LOL!
The absolute best version of this song.
I love it!! Thank you for the new great song, I am looking forward to see you guys in Praha!!!:)
This version is better, shouldve stuck to it
Lars is really disappointing me with his drumming now, this song honestly is GREAT...I'm loving all the guitars, bass and vocals work that's coming out of metallica lately, but lars just isn't doing it for me anymore.
BEFORE I GET FLAMED
I'm a drummer myself, been playing for 5 and 1/2 years and I started with Lars as my main idol for wanting to be a drummer.
It's true by the way... Lars is not a pro but we still all love him man :D my opinion he's not a good drummer but still he's cool
***** ik that's y I still like Lars
What bass?
I prefer this version than the _Hardwired Version_ :|
But this one doesn't have that energy which Lords Of Summer of HTSD
6:05 more crazy🔥 if change the speed on 1,25 sc
I love this song i hope that they have new songs soon!!
i don't understand why sound quality of older songs is usually better than quality of new songs...
I want to know this also.
Because digital recordings mastered at very high volumes will never sound as good as older analog recordings mastered at normal volumes.
Hate on me for this, but i think it sounds hell of a lot like it was from the "Kill em All" Album.
Sounds like 4 Horsemen to me
first off, clever username! and secondly, it certainly has an old-school 'Kill em All' vibe to it. Although it would fit on the album, I don't think it sounds like 4 Horsemen.
Frank Einstein There is definitely something about not only the raw sound (but it is a demo), but also some song writing aspects. Hey, if the album turns out better than Death Magnetic I will be happy.
You got it men,i thought i was the only one who got that
i dont say it sounds like 4 horsemen like spot on or so, its just that kinda style :D
and thanks for the username thing :D:D Thats my band, check em out on youtube :D
i liked all nightmare long tho
Thats what i was thinking!!!
For whatever reason Lars still kind of sounds like he's drumming on cardboard boxes. Other than that I dig it!
8/10
Im glad someone else said this sounds like it's off of a classic rock album... this song reminds me of sabbotage-era sabbath, the chorus especially. Its amazing !!! That slower riff ".....come drain darkness for the sun" part, sounds classic rock-ish to me !! I FUCKING LIKE THIS SONG. I hope this song is a glimpse of the next album :-) Tallica forever !!
If the album sounds like this, I'm devouring it !
I agree
"Imagine what heavy music would be like right now if there had been no Metallica. Scary. It would be Hair Metal or Nickleback or some shit..."
Bullshit. No offense to you or Metallica (RTL is one of my favorite records) and not to say that Metallica wasn't influential, but you make it sound like thrash-, death-, black-, doom metal etc would not have existed today without Metallica.
but those bands you named are shit compared to what metallica was at the time
playing the same music can get boring so experimenting with other genres is good
What's a Trivium?
Definitely has a kill em all/ride the lightning feel. Four Horsemen feel. I'm lovin it. Tiny bits of work to be done but damn near complete none the less.
If you can't start bobbing your head by half way through you're nuts! \m/
Really? I would say something from "...and justice for all", but it still kicks ass.
Sounds like it could be called The Four Horsemen II, like with what they're doing with The Unforgiven I II & III
Did you just mention this track in comparison with Ride the Lightning? Seriously? Omg....
I certainly hope that their new album is diverse, Kill 'Em All was repetative as hell. One song or two with that hardness is great, but man you need something else to give it some variety.
If your head has to wait for halfway to bang it, then the song sucks.
Am I the only one who really likes this song?
Awesome song! And it's just a demo. Imagine when the studio version comes out? BEAST!!!!!
james really sounds like hes pushing his voice to its fullest potential! i have very high hopes for the new album
is it me or has lars changed his snare drum again?
+Mez Hossain This is the snare original sound. It's a deep sound. It's fixed on the third mix, with the 'triggers'
i mean, do you think it sounds different from death magnetic/load/reload/black?
Reminds me of phantom lord
Yeah, that great Dave Mustaine song.
@@markandersen793 of course, Dave wrote all of Kill 'Em All. He also wrote every Deep Purple song, every Bach's piece, and he also invented the wheel, democracy, the light bulb, the engine, the telescope and Roman aqueducts.
Much better than official version
I love this. Can't wait for the new album.
Haters gunna hate. Metallica isn't for the narrow minded people that want to hear the same thing over and over again. Bad ass intro. This has a lot of old school feel. Epic!

why does this song get so much hate? oh right because it's metallica and metallica fans hate anything
truth
The sound quality is pretty bad (due to it being a first pass) and its just missing something. I don't know what but the album version really made me realize how awesome this song is.
Love reading the comments here. Too many producers, not enough musicians or songwriters these days.
Lords of summer nice song love everything about it.
So this was basically the Demo right.
10x better than Garage demo, but still missing something...
That solo from the live recordings doe!
Its still not the finished version so yea :)
Eh, it's pretty good. Really not crazy about Hetfields vocals but they are getting old. Not really crazy about the title BUT I'm very interested on what else is coming. I mean since we haven't heard anything new from metallica since 2008 it has me excited for what else they have on the CD.
dnickwoodhome13 its just a demo im sure the vocals will sound better
The vocals on the Garage Demo sounded better for me
+dnickwoodhome13
Something that i have noticed about James vocals are that the microphone he has been using recently does a couple of things to it.
It muffles his voice. If you listen to him live and then go and watch anything from 86-93 you'll notice that he uses the classic on stage microphone. And when you listen to him sing, it sounds live and spacious. and less muffled. (this in part obviously has to do with how they recorded live. but it's still muffling his voice either way)
Listen to any track from "through the nether Movie live album" and in between songs when he's talking to the audience and he's breathing you can hear how muffled and weird it sounds.
It's too bad, because it seems like the microphone he's been using recently is a favorite of his even though it sounds pretty bad. It compresses the dynamics of his voice and causes muffling to occur.
It's either his microphone or how he sings into it. He stuffs his face into the microphone sometimes.
- - -
this is just an observation and I could be talking out of my ass.
but to me, it seems like his microphone of choice has really hindered the sound of their recordings.
Try reading this, from drumlessons, com :
"Odd-time signatures are another one of Lars Ulrich’s specialties.
Very ingenious and a quite interesting concept to study and incorporate into your playing, no matter the style of music you play."
Jesus, kid - I'm gonna have to start charging for theory lessons here. You really seriously should take the time to research and learn about what the fuck you're talking about before you post, because as I said before, you're putting your foot in your mouth time and time again with your completely inaccurate comments.
this could use some reverb a la Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets. Would go a long way...
Hell yeah!
I think that it sounds like the kill'em all
No reverb on puppets pal
I enjoyed it. Butthurt tone junkies and Lars bashers aside this is a good song
Looking so much forward to the next album, *.* OMG
All these haters should be happy Metallica is still making music. Go turn on the fucking radio and have a listen, then you'll have some shit music to complain about. This is the best Metallica song post Black Album.
Guitar tone sounds like something off a classic rock album. This is supposed to be the biggest METAL band of all time?
***** No I think their guitars should sound heavy, ya know, like their classic material....Black album, And Justice etc. Metallica is not Sabbath
They say they use less gain because you get more dynamics out of the guitar, which I agree with and do myself. Who wants nasty dry guitars anyway...
Agreed. Very weak and seriously lacking thump. They could have at least turned the bass up.
I meant the sound of the black album, not the material. The black album is one of the best sounding metal albums from a production stand point. The guitars sounded heavy as fuck and the drums were thick as fuck
If youre turning down the gain on your guitars to get "more dynamics and clarity" youre completely missing the point of aggressive music.
