Ashland’s wallets are second to none.. I have the Johnny the fox in black shell cordovan and the Capone money clip in black shell cordovan .. the quality is unsurpassed and will last forever . Great video 👍🏼

If you ever buy another Shell cordovan JTF from Ashland leather again I would recommend one with a matching Horsehide latigo interior. It is a very thin but strong leather. And it keeps the wallet VERY thin. You’d be surprised at the difference in thickness from the 100% shell cordovan. P.S. I have about 12 wallets from Ashland leather 🤭

In addition to getting a world-class premium wallet, Phil and Matt at Ashland have provided the absolute best customer service I've ever experienced from a business. Period. You mentioned the wallet is guaranteed for life, that is just simply out of good customer service and their complete confidence in their own products. Their stitching is done by machine, so some may critique the product because of that, however the stitching on all their products are guaranteed for life as well so it really makes no difference. Hand-stitched on these wallets, I think, makes them look more casual than classy anyway. Thanks for this video, I love my ashland products and am always excited to see their business spread!

Check out the Ashland Fat Herbie in shell cordovan. I have mine loaded up with 16 cards and it’s *barely* more than 1/2 inch thick after it’s broken in and “compressed” with pocket time.
Be sure to ask them for thinner shells to keep thickness down.
IMO, the Fat Herbie layout is the ultimate high capacity back pocket wallet because it stays so thin.
I gave up the search for the right minimalist wallet after finding this one.

Being 🇬🇧 there is no way I’d back pocket carry anything around here, however I agree about the wallet. I’ve got one from 2013 and love it, but not so much the overall size. 👍🏻🙂 “Wear it well” my Ashland buddy.

@@Richard_Barnes Lol, I even wore my minimalist wallets in the back pocket. I guess that’s why the Fat Herbie was the best format in my mind.
It’s stays thin enough that I don’t feel the need to take it out of my pocket every time I sit down unlike a bifold or a loaded it minimalist.

The one and only time I tried to reach out to their customer service, they never responded. Put a sour taste in my mouth. I haven't revisited them since. /shrug Of course, if they decided to give me a 350 dollar wallet I'd try it out as well. No offense to you dude, but Ill stick to your reviews on wallets you buy yourself. /low five.
Edit.. on another note. I have bought quite a few Shell wallets in the past 10 years that were WELL below the tree fiddy mark. That's insane. I'm talking handmade/usa wallets as well. Also some Aussie handmade wallets.

Also, regardless if I receive an item for review for free or if I buy it I’m going to give my honest opinion either way.
Getting something for free doesn’t sway my opinion on it. That’s silly. I have companies that won’t even talk to me anymore because I’ve given a bad review to something they’ve sent to me.
In fact if Id say if I were to lie it would be on something expensive that I bought myself, just to try and justify the purchase. Lol

I’d rather they forget about the nice box with the wax seal and the cloth pouch. That just adds $10-$20 to the cost of the wallet. Just put it in a plastic bag and a bubble wrap envelope.
I like the design. That’s the only way to go. You open your wallet and you can find the card you want, instantly! There’s no divider in the bill department, which helps keep the wallet thin. There’s no jacking around with a lever to pop your cards out, thumbing through them to find the right card. That just adds time do your day. You also don’t need to touch your dollar bills until you need them. Unsanitary bills don’t get in the way of your cards, which is a big no-no for me. The hidden pockets are ideal for cards you don’t use on a regular basis, like insurance cards and drivers license.
My wallet is a similar design, with three pockets on the left side, just like the one you show here and two pockets on the right, where the card in the front slides almost out of sight, and multiple cards in the back, slide in completely out of sight.
Mine has a bill divider, so I put my bills in the front, and in the back, I put a double layer of thick aluminum foil to make it RFID protected. The brand? Timber Mountain. It’s made with premium cowhide and these last 20+ years.
I also quit carrying my wallet in my back pocket 20+ years ago. I lost too many wallets that way. It’s also uncomfortable to sit on your wallet. Who does that anymore?
I just checked on the price for the wallet in this review. $350?!! Holy crap! No thank you. Somebody’s laughing all the way to the bank on that one.

For some reason I can't get into Ashland leather. Their use of very expensive leathers but mediocre construction quality just doesn't do it for me, especially for the price they are asking. Poor edge finishing. Also nothing is saddle stitched, it's done on machine and it shows. Often when machine stitched, small leather goods end up crooked. Ashland likes to say it offers a more uniform look, but if you know anything about leather work, hand saddle stitching is more uniform because more care is taken to punch the holes and stitch the leather with the same force, etc. They do it to save money and increase productivity keeping production costs down, thus increasing profit margins. There is no other reason to do this. Honestly, their stuff is lipstick on a pig and a huge waste of expensive leathers. Craft makers produce a much better product at a marginal increase in expense. And their stuff is overpriced for what you get.

LV is style over substance. Ashland shell products are ALL about substance.
This wallet is superior to any men’s wallet LV sells by a long shot, IMO.

    • @cdakskid
      @cdakskid 2 года назад +9

An LV wallet can't touch this. Most of the money spent on such items is for the advertisement costs and an insane profit margin. The cost of this wallet is mostly due to the high quality materials. To illustrate this point, Ashland leather makes the exact wallet with less expensive (but still very high quality) non-shell cordovan leather for $125. Horween shell cordovan leather costs over $100 per square foot and comes in small, uneven pieces that have a percentage of waste after cutting out the pattern pieces. You can see why they cost so much based on this alone. Over the past few years, I've become 100% convinced that going with small companies with personal pride in their products is the way to go. I have three Ashland shell cordovan wallets and absolutely love them.
