Great video. I'm in Tasmania where tree ferns rule the riversides.

How interesting. We had a rough tree fern that was planted too close to our house and had to be moved elsewhere on the property. We did not know about the root ball you described and cut it off clean at the base and moved it. It has grown fine since. Perhaps we lucked out? It was a very healthy fern when we moved it. Its also good to see someone who loves the natural beauty of the Ranges and looks after it rather than cutting it all down.

Thanks Bansidhe, I think you did luck out big time. The Ranges are full of wonderful flora and fauna.

Wow, I didn't know Australia had land leeches. Glad I missed them when I was there!

We moved two tree ferns a week ago, following your instructions. (Cape Town, South Africa) One has not even noticed it has been moved ! The otger one niw has 3 dead branches. BUT my question is, the dead leaves smells strongly like fish / fishy. Is that normal ? Or have we just not noticed it before ?

Ferns can have issues with pest infestations such as nematodes and fern mites. Root rot and overly wet or waterlogged soils can result in unpleasant smells. It takes a couple of years to see the tree ferns bounce back or die.
