    As a three time Miata owner since 1990, I’m a bit biased. I love the simple, reliable, efficient and cost effective product that Mazda brings to the table. I’ve driven and owned many more costly, more powerful and way more expensive vehicles over the years, but I always come back to the Miata.

      Great cars for sure! Nothing is so fun around town and on a twisty side road. Definitely the economy option of this trio, but maybe not over the long run if depreciation is a factor?

      @@trueview3127 a Cayman can depreciate by more than the total price of a Miata! Add in the delta for consumables, insurance, maintenance, etc. and Miatas win by a mlle financially. Having owned a 987 S and recently driven a friend's GTS 4.0 plus being on my 3rd Miata (and ND2), I can have every bit the same fun in the Miata and maybe more in the right conditions on a sunny day. Biggest difference is in comfort on long drives, daily use practicality, and the Porsche sound and steering feel. I'd love to have a GTS 4.0 (or even a 981 S/GTS) to complement my Miata.

    The problem with underpowered cars like the miata (or any low 300hp or less car) is you have to over-drive them to keep up in these types of mixed car situations. People focus on the positives usually saying "I'd rather a slow car fast" , but when you're not fast even when, your trying your best to be, you end up slingshotting a lot and show signs of overdriving like missing exits due to speed, or losing sight, dropping in packs or holding up back of pack, that's just not fun. Perfect example of this shown in the video. That GTS could be at a controllable 70% all the time, get your fun in but be at a backroad limit that even 800hp cars need to adhere to, so you never have those over driving issues.

    • @trueview3127

    Buy what you can afford and don't outdrive your car or your skills; but regardless of what that is, take advantage of these amazing roads and have fun and be careful. We just took a drive to Highlands NC and Asheville over the weekend on the curvy stuff in a Cayman style edition. Doesn't have the grunt of the GTS4.0 but has the same mid-engine layout. I've driven the Miata, and I would say the refinement, practicality, and add'l power of a base Cayman - even prior gens to save money if you need to - is worth it. But the Miata is a go kart - very lightweight - so probably feels a bit more fun.

    • @lupinsea
      @lupinsea 5 дней назад

      Definitely try the head-to-head . . . but my understanding is the driving dynamics are actually subtle and might not be something noticeable unless you're familiar with the cars and driving them back-to-back. I have a later '22 ND2 GT soft top with the KPC n' stuff. Mostly stock. It's on factory suspension but with a pro alignment to get close to the Fly'in Miata / Goodwin specs. And then has the Goodwin Superstreet single tip exhaust. Plenty of fun and I don't feel the need to take it any further than that and what *I* would consider a sweet spot for a backroads street car.
      While I wish Mazda sales success each year with the Miata, it's hard to recommend buying a new ND3 vs. an ND2. There are improvements and refinements but are they worth new car money?
      The "big" things are the little things: significantly improved infotainment / syncing with the phone (super slow on the ND2 and older), slightly improved steering, and the asymetirical LSD but . . . out side of pushing it at the track how noticeable is this for street driving? Probably not significant and . . . . is it worth used car $$ or new car $$$?
      Anyhoo . . . thanks to TrueView for this comparo, it's awesome seeing all three of these cars in the vid with how they compare them. *chef's kiss*
      Oh, and someone pointed out how the Miata struggled with speed and power a bit to keep up and they kind of "coerces" you to over drive the car to try and keep up. I can see that argument but end of the day, I kind of don't care. I'm off in my own little world enjoying the snot out of the Miata, happy as a clam. I'm also a member of a Maita club and when we go on club drives, well, all the cars are well matched. 😁

    To answer the question- you get what you pay for. They’re all good cars. I’d personally go for the 718 S. It has the performance, comfort, and the right price point. Except in a drag race it will keep up with or out perform the 4.0. I have owned a Miata and it’s a fun car and I would even consider having another except for the fact that I own a 718 and I love it. Yes, it is worth $30,000 more. But the Miata is definitely worth what you pay for it, nothing close to it in that price range.

    I already have turbocharged cars for daily so I really don't want turbocharger so that means I will need to stick with 981 (any trim, base/S/GTS all got 6 cylinders) or 718 GTS 4.0.
    Both 981 GTS and 718 GTS 4.0 command quite a bit of premium even over 981 base/S and I'm not sure if that is worth it.

      For now it will be trips West as life allows but eventually, we will be able to extend our trips for longer. Have thought about car swaps, or about sending the cars by truck for future trips as well. As for the WA options - definitely let us know what we missed - if you are willing - and we will add them to the map.

    So what's the conclusion,🤔

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  5 дней назад +3

      Good question. The idea was to illustrate the experience in each vehicle and for each viewer to make their own call. In this road - it seemed like the 981S was best suited, but had it been with other similar performance cars, the MX5 wouldn’t have had to overdrive to keep up! Then it all comes back to the experience which is a personal choice. Thanks for commenting!

    Hello, back again with more roads near Blacksburg VA. I've been making my own list for a while now, that started with VA-700 after watching your video on it. That has now fallen to fifth place, losing to, in order from first down; VA-637 / VA-653 Allegheny Spring Road / Shawsville Pike NE, VA-730 Eggleston Road, VA-624 Mount Tabor Road, and The Back of the Dragon gets a high placement due to being a standout road, but it's important for me to mention that roads LOSE points for being further from Blacksburg, as my list is more made for Virginia Tech students looking for a fun weekend road to take without losing too much time for school. I'll attach a link to the list at the bottom of the comment, but I just want to say a few words about one or two of the roads I suggested as they may not be entirely suitable for you guys.
    VA-637 / VA-653 - This one is by far my favorite, being very twisty and dense, while running through deep gorges just south of the Appalachian ridge lines. There are one or two sections to be careful of poor pavement, and dotted housing along it, but really I just wish it was longer.
    VA-730 - It flows really nicely, and has excellent pavement, but suffers due to being a mostly residential road with lots of housing along it. I'll say more later, but it's a drawback of being limited to about an hour radius of VT.
    VA-624 - This one has a good section or two, but is for the most part just high up on the list for having good pavement and not being far from VT.
    A lot of could-be good roads lose points majorly due to being far away, a simple drawback of being a student at VT, but another big issue I have so far is that so many of the roads get higher "Road Surface" scores than they really deserve because I have to give the scores within scale of what's in the area, and this area suffers from somewhat good to in some areas downright impossible to drive on. The other issue is that many roads run at the bottoms of the valleys within the ridge lines, and don't have much elevation change or true twisties, but get elevated for having long sweeping corners and high speed opportunities.
    All in all, definitely give VA-637 / VA-653 a shot, it's got the most gorgeous view I've seen on a road yet, and there's plenty of twisties.
    Let me know if the link doesn't work or something. I can change it to just be a copy of the sheet as it is now.

    ND Miata is an outstanding drivers car. Such a willing engine and featherweight chassis. The body roll is crazy out of the box, but in a way endearing. I would love to drive one with stiffer sway bars front and rear.

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  6 дней назад

      There is definitely a rich after market for all the suspension bits you could image for the Miata. The roll is fun to manage though. The Miata will teach you what "lift off" oversteer is really quick if you aren't careful!

    • @lupinsea
      @lupinsea 5 дней назад +1

      I actually . . . don't notice "that" significant of body roll on my ND2. But it's the '22 model year when they came out with the KPC which is supposed to tame body roll by braking the inside rear wheel very slightly. Either it's working or I'm having too much fun to pay attention to the body roll. One thing I do appreciate is the factory tuning really soaks up bumps, undulations, and road imperfections. I've think it's very well tuned for "real world" road conditions.

    I have an Integra Type S daily, and will add a roadster to my stable at some point in my life. Wouldn't even mind a ZF auto Z4, as a top-down GT cruiser, so it doesn't have to be a second manual in the stable. The Handschalter 6MT Z4 is rare (and expensive), and will be really tough to find used in the future.

    Personally I’ll purchase an ND2 club. Although it’s more a reflection on my finances than a preference. The GR86 is a great alternative but I think risk of oil starvation would deter me from pushing it especially on any kind half-aggressive tire. Both of these options, although front engined, are the most affordable option to get a real drivers car.

    • @trueview3127
      @trueview3127  3 дня назад +1

      The ND2 is a great choice. The car in this video is just that actually. What’s this about oil starvation on the Toyota?

    • @trevor6814
      @trevor6814 3 дня назад

      @ apartment from the rtv issues that have clogged the oil return line leading to oil pump failure (now fixed I believe), the FA24’s oil pressure can and will drop while pulling sustained g’s in right hand turns, leading to engine failure. I would absolutely buy one if not for this issue. I would never be comfortable pushing the car with an engine rebuild as a likely consequence.

    The mx-5 is seriously underpriced. If they retailed starting at 45k, people would still buy them. And at that rate, 45k to a 60k boxster, well that's a much easier comparison.
    For me, I needed a new daily car with extremely good gas mileage, something that's reliable and cheap to maintain. I never drive with more than 1 passenger or with a lot of things, and I love canyon and ocean-side driving. Well, it was a pretty easy decision. I get 46 mpg cruising top-down btw, it feels like cheating.

    In terms of fun at any price range no car on sale brand new currently can beat the miata on a twisty road. The miata is also mid engines, the entire engine sits behind the front axle, its actually more mid engined then alot of rear mid engine car with huge engines that go over the rear axle. Its almost common sense tho, a car that much bigger with over 800lb more 99% of the time will not be as fun, why do u think they spend millions in parts and research to make cars lighter? The cayman gts 4.0 and gt4 is a different experience tho, it cant ever replace the miata but it can be had along side the miata as a different experience, because of the engine and power mostly. The cayman would be alot more fun with less sticky narrower tires, so u can actually drive the car on road fully. Most modern supercars are over tired and are significantly less fun to drive on road because of it.

      @guser7137 sounds like a ego gatekeeping cope. Chris harris aswell in a top gear episode. Randy pobst race car driver world record holder also says that, journalists who can afford million dollar cars n uave driven anything out there choose the miata. So never speak about a car again ur not into cars u have 0 driving skill clearly, ur into feeding ur ego n cars just happen to be a way for u too showoff n stroke ur ego. I have racing experience and supercars n the miata is the most fun alongside air cooled 70s 911. Keep coping, trying to compensate.
