    I bought the Zeiss 10 x 42. Everything you say is true. The conquest do exactly what you say, they bridge that gap between not much good to wow. I love my set. Absolutely perfect for the views I want and I don't regret having parted with the money. As soon as you view with them indeed that outlay is justified. Excellent product.

    Happens that I just bought the Zeiss binos and now looking up for opinions expressed on RUclips - Fully share the content of your review as I'm pleased in every aspect (especially compared to a set which is about 60 years old!) touching the same points. Although I could afford to spend a higher amount it didn't make sense to me as I'm an occasional user. For me it's the perfect binocular and I can only recommend it because these items last a very long time it's important to be satisfied with. Buying a cheap one and upgrade later, well that's expensive!

    I looked through a pair of a fellow Birders Zeiss conquest 10x42
    Excellent optics
    Definitely sharp & crisp finish.
    I had a pair of Leica Ultra HD 10x42
    I was comparing both .
    Results both are excellent and will do the job for birding & hunting.

    Funny how few reviewers focus on focus precision and depth, as well as the ease to find focus using the knob. For me this is more important than the image being of superior quality. I lended a pair of high end swarovskis for some work, i could not really tell the difference in terms of image quality compared to my 200 eur ones. However, when i switched back to my 200 eur ones after the work i quickly realized that the swarovskis almost always had supersharp focus on anything while my 200 eur binos just had much more shallow focus-depth, i had to rotade the knob much more often.
    This is cruucial in birding when you flush a bird or quickly see a raptor dashing by, that you actually get that 1-3 sec of clarity rather than not being able to find focus during the short observation.
    This is markedly improved between 500 and 1000 eur binos.

      Everyone is different but I find it hard to believe one couldnt obviously see the difference between Swaros and 200 euro bins! Every time I look through Swaros it blows me away.

    I think compare between Nikon Monarchs 7s or ED with Zeiss Conquest HD might make more sense. 7s or ED has a better image and a much wider field of view (look at the dark corner at 6:25).

    It is not even eliminated in the EL glases from Swarovski. I own a EL 10X50 .You see chromatic aberration on white fences for example.
    There will be no big difference except in your wallet.
    Go for a Conquest. They are excellent.

    One thing wasn't completely clear to me was how long you have had the Nikons. The latest version of the Monarch 5's have been upgraded to ED objectives. The coatings and phase correction have also been improved.

      Sherwood Larkin The Nikons are a couple of years old. I think they're the updated version. I still use them. Today the eyepiece broke on my Conquests here in Guatemala, but I don't anticipate Zeiss giving me any trouble to replace it.

    I even prefer the Terra's over the Monarchs-7.
    And yes, I tested them side-by-side for a few days.
    I just do not like the Monarchs-7, the image quality is not that great, especially the chromatic aberration, so I agree with Jonathan. And build quality of the Monarchs was also a bit disappointing.

    I tried both the Victory SF and the Conquest models. You have to purposely look for the CA in the Conquests. I'm not sure that is a problem when looking at birds. In my small hands (I'm 65 in. tall) the Conquests felt heavier although 2 ounces lighter than the SF. I think it's because the balance point in the SF is more towards the viewer. I don't think the "average" birder will see any difference. But as with any other field, buy the best you can afford. At times this may involve selling your first born.

    • @GetOutsideYourself
      @GetOutsideYourself  6 лет назад

      Probably in most low-contrast settings you're right about the CA, but since I'm using them a lot on the ocean or in the harsh light of the chaparral where I live, it's pretty noticeable. But these are still pretty good binos for the price, no doubt.

    Try swarovski slc series and let us know do you find any chromatic aberrations and color fringes.

      I review the Swarovskis in another video. They're definitely superior to the mid-range Zeiss, and they're better than Leicas too.

    This was really a terrific video and evaluation. I too am a photographer who wants a good pair of binoculars. I was considering the Monarch 7s and the Conquests, and so you especially answered my questions (and thanks for the comparison video in the middle). About midway through, I came up with the BMW analogy, and I got a kick out of you then saying the same thing. As someone who drives a mid-priced BMW, and shoots with a Nikon 800 and top-of-the line lenses, I think you exactly captured my sense of price vs. quality! Thanks again!

      Forrest Milder Thanks Forrest. Glad I could be helpful. As I've used these binos for the past 6 months or so I've come to like them more and more. I even had a chance to compare them side by side with some Leicas (both their mid and top range) and they're right there in terms of quality. Plus I've abused them in the ocean and on the trails and they can really take it.

      Zeiss Conquests are suppose to be as nice as a Mercedes S class but at the same time tough as a Jeep Wrangler.

      I have the Conquest HD 10x42 and I love them, but everyone sleeps on the Monarch 7, they are an outstanding Bino especially for the money! I sometimes wonder if I should have saved the money and gone with the M7. And in my experience the M7 is a bit easier on the eyes. But I do love my Conquests!

  • @trident8872

    I bought the monarch 7 for $425.00 I just love them.. nice wide field of view and I guess I don’t see well enough to see purple anything in the lenses... but thanks for this great review

    • @GetOutsideYourself
      @GetOutsideYourself  6 лет назад

      Thanks John Doe. I think the purple fringing is a photographer thing. Our eyes are trained to notice it, but if you don't, more power to you. But once you do see it, you can't unsee it and it's annoying.

    Nikon Monarch HG x Leica Trinovid HD x Cart Zeiss Conquest HD. Everyone on 10x42 - place them 1-2-3 in optical perfomance

    Your comparison shows Zeiss is significantly brighter. Is that right? Nikon was quite dark.

      I can see all the way to the Andromeda Galaxy on a clear night. That's about 1.4 x 10 to the 22nd power meters, so pretty far.
