To fall in love
With the things you do
Don't sell yourself
To fall in love
With those things you do
[Verse 1: Baatin]
Ladies loving my music is like some sex shit
Niggas trying to grip up my mic like it's a dick
Run around the corner to pick up the new shit
Toss this in the deck so niggas can catch rep
I'm the motherfucker gripping the mic like it's a joke
Niggas fall in love with the music like its a hole
Put down your mic you lost your whole goal
You take it too seriously like it's a gamble
Fuck this rap shit I listen to classical
In the studio loop as usual
Loving my lyrical
Fuck bitches that you would know
I'm out of this cause you wanna be below
Yall niggas in love with the S
Yall niggas in love with the S
[Hook]
[Verse 2: T3]
Yeah, JD man I see sometimes
I sit and wonder when I think about these written rhymes
How'd I get to the point constantly taking all my time?
Time I could of been spending gettin' cash, gettin' mine
Hoping one day it comes around
One day when I'm
The nigga gettin' money, gettin' cash, gettin' signed
Getting the fuck out the ghetto, cause I'm tired of crime
But it's a crime that I feel this fucking waste of time
But sometimes I feel like this shit here's a waste of time
Yours and mine
To these niggas out here trying to rhyme
Your reason for it better sure 'nough be genuine
I do it because it gives me a sort of peace-of-mind
And for the love
[Hook]
Yo, one-two
Word up, ah one-two, SV, word up, word up, alright
Uh,uh,uh and to my nigga Jay-Dee uh, uh my nigga T-3 uh, oh
That nigga Batian uh, uh, thats my crew
Yo, uh, oh this going out to my nigga Bust-a
And all my other motherfu-cka
What up to all you trying to bust, us
Trying to get down with us, cause we know you just mad as hell
Yo I'll give em the mic, ehhh! So niggas don't know that I am
T-3 on the mic
I do what I do what I like, to get down right tonight
(cause?) Cause I get down tonight, yo
Niggas try and put up a fight, wit us, yo alright
Some freestyle shit
This song has been stuck in my head for like 20 years....
Facts
same.. and I’m 20
Fax, my brother used to bump this in the car back then reminds me of the good old days.
I keep getting the Moody Good remix stuck in my head.
its just... dope. in my car forever.
Everyone listening to this, don't you feel so fortunate to have come to existence.. in this time era, with no hearing disability. To witness such a amazing song? Produced by the legend J dilla? It always amazes me how lucky we are to have music, such an amazing creation.
Wodchly music is my life
No, sold myself in love, I hate life
Thanks for the words
U ain't lied my dude
True that !!! Actual and factual!!!!
dillas beats always take you to another planet.
Ezek Amen.
didnt i see u on a cboyardee video wtf
And that planet bring me to peace.
he was GENIUS!
No realer words were written.
this beat simultaneously makes me happy to be alive and makes me want to cry until there's no tears left
💯😭

❤❤❤
I call this the Dilla Effect
Always end up finding my way back to this beat, this beats like home to me. 2009 was my freshman year of high school, and during the summers, I'd stay up til' dawn watching adult swim and listening to Flylo/Dilla/Doom/Madlib/Talib and many others. This era to me is 2am and cereal, because that's just what'd be going down. 2am hits, cereals out and beats are on with [as] in the background. A different time, for sure.
Man that took me back bro. I didn't even know adult swim played J Dilla beats. I just enjoyed the beat and always wondered to myself who produced it?
What about Nujabes? Man, these are fucking pearls
***** Nujabes is greatness
Isaiah For real brother
You've explained my life in a nutshell
RIP Dilla. Your music still lives on.
Dope music awesome Cool good Listen wow j dilla music Dj hip-hop history black music lives
Victoria Appiagei what the fuck did you even just type.
EMUTHAFUCKINTERNALLY!!
"Don't sell yourself to fall in love"
Facts!!
85elcamino714 you're forgetting the
"With those things you do"
the song is about how they doubt that their music is worth putting all their time and energy in. But they realize that they continue to do it because it gives them "peace of mind" and because they love it.
I don't think it's a love song in the conventional sense.
Tyrone Genkins Another example of this type of thing I can think of is De La Soul's "Eye Know" not being a love song aimed at a person, but aimed at hip hop in general.
Tyrone Genkins That MIGHT be the meaning but the person who commented never said it was about love, for all you know he meant it in more than one way.
dont sell your soul to the music industry
@@markwebb385 yeah But Most do It! Specialy The artist You Most loved
I forgot how glorious this is.
It is glorious indeed
time to remember again
I DIDN'T... HELL NO!
reminder

This song aint got no business being this good. Im playing this all summer
The beat is depressing and uplifting at the same time, true genius...dilla knew exactly what the essence of hip hop was...👍
Dilla knew and understood the human soul just like Fyodor Dostoevsky
As the 1,500,000 viewer of this song, I can say with certainty, people will never stop respecting real Hip Hop. Don't fear, it's not dead, not even dormant.
nah
MBTAismydesignateddriver beautiful! Thank you!
Even just that freestyle at the end that’s not all in English haha, gorgeous. Cannot forget to pay respect to Dilla he will always be a legend and is still here with us today, in everyone that loves him. Peace peace y’all
nah
thank fuck for that
It always warms my heart when I see classic hip hop tracks such as this get millions of views.
BigBad Bryant but in the same time I am terrified by the fact that Drake and the likes are getting 20 times more views than Dilla
Stefan Kamenski
It's sad but that's how music has always been. The best music has always been buried under the bad music but once the dust settles, only the good music is remembered and admired.
true that and I am afraid that it applies to many other domains. So I am wondering why most people will always go first
for the fake and more fashionable instead of trying to dig a bit deeper for the true quality
Stefan Kamenski
People will do anything to fit in. They follow the trends first before anything.....sadly.
BigBad Bryant Exactly what i was thinking man!
One of my favourite albums ever, love listening to this album at night skating.
vibe
Awesome!
Used to play the album back to back when snowboarding.
It perfectly combines with the rythmic movement of riding through a desolate mountain landscape, up to your knees in the snow.
❤
That baseline is everything🔥🔥🔥🔥 R.I.P. Dilla Man!!🕊🙏🏾💙
James Yancee was a talented man.
I pray his gift inspires creative souls everywhere.
God bless his family.
God Bless J. Dilla!! Thank you for leaving us such diamonds of music before you departed to the heavens.
There’s no heaven, he’s just dead
@@awandanu you and I don’t know that… I have faith and you don’t. That’s it….
@@awandanu you don’t know that… and you never will.
Years has gone by and this record still drips Gold 🏆
Hip Hop that brings tears of joy and sorrow. The Beautiful art and love. The Agony and pain of the loss of Greatness.
I had this song in like 98/99 before the official release, I was 10 years old and this song stuck with me since then, I’m 36 now 👌🏾 s/o to my older brother for putting me hip 🧡
This is magical... it took me back when i was a child. And i don't mean like i heard as a child. Im 16 yo and.... this is one of those moments, when music is a lot more than just a nice composition of sounds... i literally felt this. Thats all, its so amazing how music changed my life.
After a break up I find it impossible to not cry to this song
True shit man
Your fucked 😂
I keep getting back to this tune cuz the beat and the whole vibe,Dilla`s beats are always gonna help me handle depression. R.I.P Dilla

I heard this song last weekend at the LL Cool J Force Tour…recorded my daughter dancing to it and have been trying to figure out who the artist was. Thanks to google and the humming feature I am here!! ❤❤❤❤

I always knew kermit had it in him to spit rhymes.
omfg lol you ruined the song to me now I just die laughing
My kind of hip hop that pleases my ears and a producer with creativity. I'd like to hear more of this instead of popular
+Ryuujin1078 You know, it's music for headphones. Not many people listen to this stuff. It's exclusive, not popular. A few would say that the music is boring but it's not that at all. It's low-key, quiet. How would you describe it? Discuss.
+Taxidermistification its the shit that breaks necks but puts the mind on another thought plane
+Ryuujin1078 Then why don't you just listen to more of this type of music?
Rappatiligoe0419
I was about to type the exact same thing.
There's literally millions of comments on RUclips of peeps bemoaning the current state of hip hop while praising the 90s and Conscious stuff. Well listen to it, dummies. I do. Nobody said that you have to like current/popular shit.
Taxidermistification Exactly. The internet has made it way too easy to access all types of good music.
Slum Village is SO GOOD. Detroit Deli is one of my favourite albums of all-time.

J DILLA NEVER MISSED ONE. the guy was a legend. Everything he touched turned into gold
May seriously be the absolute greatest beat in hip hop history. Utterly perfect.
Damn, anyone else remember this gem piece when it first dropped in high school? ❤
Right here. Bought this on CD from NRM fall 2000.
fly lo's rendition of this is GOLD. soul food
That snare, so clean and sharp. Distinctive of 90’s hip hop production
J-Dilla x Slum Village ✊🏾as long as I’m breathing 😮💨 RIP King!!!
I bought the original issue Cd back in 2000 when the album dropped. The cd was lost a few years later. Around 2016 or so I bought this cd again, but noticed THIS song was left off....WTF!!
Upset because this was one of my favorite songs off the original cd.
Decades later and this song still resonates. Dilla's production is timeless.
This song reignited my love for music. :) I am very much grateful for this song. A lot of things changed when I realized that I should just make music that feels and sounds good. No other reasons.
My top favorite albums of all time. I can rarely listen to an album from start to finish without skipping around....this is one of the very few in which I can do so.
I discovered this song about a few months ago and, is already one of my favorite songs of all time, i usually love playing it during cold or rainy days, it’s a nice mixture. This song makes me feel so many feelings but yeah idk how I can explain it but it’s definitely top 3 of my favorite songs of all time
Dam 1999 was the release date just seemed like yesterday riding around listening to this great memories
We lost big time by not passing this on to next generation but I am glad we had this. Let's inspire the youngins.

I lost my virginity to this song in an apartment in Tokyo in 2003...memories
I was in Japan in 2000 too when i 1st heard this. Okinawa ✊
This beat is just so chill.....love the flow and the vibe.
Seems like time buries this song every so many years. But like a great archeologist, I somehow find my way back to it and hear it in all its magnificence.
Is there a musicologist who can tell why this songs stays in your head and just pops in at random moments for what seems like it will be a lifetime.
“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”
