- Silent Hill Opening FMV
Remastered in 4K using ESRGAN [AI Machine Learning]
ESRGAN is an AI Neural Network software that is capable of upscaling and reconstructinglow-resolution images, while retaining most of their elements and details intact.
I took the original video file from the Silent Hill - Art of Silent Hill DVD, and used ESRGAN with the Manga109 training model to upscale the video 4 times its original resolution.
Original resolution: 720x480
ESRGAN Upscale: 2880x1920 --) 2560x1920
Didn’t the opening say “fear of the blood tends to create fear for the flesh”?
Yeah that line gives me chills
I believe the opening line in this video is from a beta/pre-release version of the game.
This is the E3 trailer version of Silent Hill, hence the higher quality video and smoother frame rate. Another difference between the the E3 trailer and the final games intro is the book that Cheryl holds isn’t a jumble of letters and spells out “Drawing Block”
Edit: my bad, it was the TGS 1998 trailer, not the E3 1998 trailer.
Yeah i was hoping iit to be exactly as the original, but it is not. :(
@@whatsupbossanova Nice info. Thanks for explaining!
the Pre-rendered CGI cutscenes in Silent Hill series have the best motion capture and facial animation I've ever seen! it even still looks good compared to modern games today
I made a compilation of all the cinematics and scenes of the game in 4k, 60 fps and 5.1 sound in case you are interested
ruclips.net/video/9J_sHVJzMK0/видео.html
It's true
And Takayoshi Sato created them all by himself. I'm still in awe of the fact that he did facial animations by hand, no motion capture in both SH1 and 2, they look so much better than most facial animations even today. Such a wildly talented guy
I really like the character design of the series. For me it's a trademark, enigmatic and unique.
Very underrated youtuber, keep up the great content

This is so fascinating. It's 4K upscaled yet it look all noisy in an appropriate way. The digital noises represents the mental state of these characters.
Aww man the memories of this game it scared the crap out of me and my friends but we had fun staying up taking turns. I hope this gets remastered some day soon. Thanks for this restoration!
After all these years, it's still by far the scariest game I've ever played and I had no one to take turns with!!! I think the pixelated graphics by today's standard really makes your imagination run wild and think about all the deeply disturbing things to fill in the blanks.
For me it was Resident evil 2
I agree
Remastering will just ruin what made it scary. Too clean and up to date technology removes the atmosphere
@@josecat436I agree, for some reason the hardware limitations of the PS1 made this game scary asl.
This intro with the song is just art
Nice!
Can you do this for the Silent Hill 2 FMVs too? It would be amazing to see those ones in 4K as well :)
++++
There is already one, in SH 2 Enhanced Edition

@2:16 that actually looks really good, got chills great stuff!
Silent Hill 1 is an absolute masterpiece, back then I thought it was gonna be a pioneer, but it's still unique even outside the genre, very few games have reached this level of creativity and simple elegance, while being effective and genuine.
I honestly can't express how much I love and respect Silent Hill 1, and if it finally gets a decent remake I will freak out 🤟😜✌️

Amazing stuff hopefully the whole game can be done like metroid prime
0:40 that looks so good! it still looks good today and you made it so clean! thank you!
Boy this makes me cry, so Many memories came back to me in 1080p. Thanks for remake my childhood in HD
thank you for this; for preserving such an integral part of a game from a series its creators couldn't give less of a damn about. keep up the good work man!
Even though some Silent Team members don’t support the idea of remake, the original Silent Hill trilogy could really use a remake using modern engine
@Drew Williamsburg exactly! People just love to throw the word “remaster” at any game older than 10 years now it’s annoying & uninspired
@@RastaMouseOG True, the videogame industry is now just about power and realism, that's why so many people are just obsessed with remakes, instead of playing what we already have.
It's like a phrase that goes "if it's not broken don't fix ir"
Visually there is only one way to remake SH1 properly - it needs to be done with an original game's CGI style.
Maybe not a remake but definitely a re-release
@@RastaMouseOGtbh silent hill 1/2 should be left with no remake. The graphical struggle in both games is the reason they’re both successful. The 2 remake fog looks horrendous. Also the sound engineers aren’t going to put as much effort into it like the og.
Ten years from now I believe we'll be able to witness complete remakes of early raw 3D FMVs in glorious details such as CGIs from the 2010s. I want to be alive to see this magick happening through machine learning.
In this world of instant gratification and social media...it's easy to forget what a master piece was...
I played this game for the first time like a week ago and it was amazing... Sadly I get the bad ending. The game suffer of some problems on the controls part (they get better 3d controls on silent hill 2) and I really hate the anigma parts, but that's my problem. This game is really good and with an upscaled graphic is fun even now after 23 years
Its freaky to see these iconic cutscenes upscaled and at a higher frame rate.
Silent Hill Transmission 2022 brought me here.
Your channel about to blow up it’s all over my recommendations today
It's kind of amazing how the higher framerate greatly reduces the "uncannyness" of the opening cited by many. When viewed properly you can really tell Takayoshi Sato knew how to capture humanity in his work even when the tools he was working with were very limited.
Master Akira Yamaoka, one of the best video game composers! I,,I.
Wow. So crispy and colorful. Like and suscription!
AAAHHHHH SO COOL! ITS SO CLEAN!
Just got this game the other day and have always heard about it growing up so I decided to buy it! So far so good
1:15 Cheryl is sleeping with her mouth slightly open. How cute.
Like if you want this and the whole franchise to be remade for PS4. Or just at least a remaster that is not something like the one released for PS3.
I mean with the PS5 almost here, I think it's more likely that we'll see the rumored Konami/Kojima reuniting to finish Silent Hills (not a huge fan of it, but I think it's pretty likely going to happen).
One of the best intro video ever.
Forever etched into my memory
I love your videos. Emulation from this era means alot to me and I appreciate your content on it.
I come back and watch your videos once in a while, thanks for the requests you fulfilled, I don't know where you are but I hope you're alright.
Pero que maestro 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏!!!!!
Thank you for making this. Truly, this warms my heart ❤️.
this is freaking amazing!!!!! thank you so much. you just got a new sub
OH MY GOD THIS IS EPIC
Thank you for doing this. It looks great!
I love how the ending of the trailer is the start of the game. Continuity. Car crash, followed by missing daughter.
Please upscale Silent Hill 2 intro aswell, it's so beautiful, would really love to see it upscaled))
Praying for that to happen, i love that intro!
I love you!
Thanks for this.
Me, watching a 480p video, AI upscaled to 4k, on my 1080p monitor, at 1440p:
Duuuuuuur
Welcome to Silent Hill.
Where police officer enforces the law with latex pants. 🙌🏻 I surrender.
Very good video, keep up the good work! , subscribed 😃👍
1:41 armband got all messed up, it suppose to say SP.
do that in 4K and you will be a hero !
The best debut videogame in the year of 1999 for Play Station 1. Should be Silent Hill franchise Vs The Conjuring Universe.
Thank you for this.
Thank you for this !
The only thing I got out of watching the Silent Hill movie, it's a huge appreciation that there is only one real Silent Hill
What was Dahlia looking at when she turns around in shock?
Probably Cheryl or Metatron.
The consequences of her actions
This brought me back
1:48 Lisa is so W A I F U !
Dude you know that even before the game starts she’s dead right?
2:19 POGGERS
Simply beautiful
Silent Hill is absolutly a master piece in the videogame story ❤❤❤
Wow! It looks amazing!
My childhood. Its dark beauty was a second home to me
I've always thought that Dahlia Gillespie is a really creepy character. I wonder what she would look like as a ghost if Walter would have killed her.
This is amazing 💞
Lisa looks more beautiful than ever, thank you
if they made a remake of this intro with new generation graphics it would be more goat than it already is
Silent Hill: 20th Anniversary Edition
that's really amazing
Боже, как же это было давно... Наверное, одна из самых крутых игр того времени
this is amazing!!!!!!
"An intro can't make you cry"
The intro:
2:28 Lol, that face.
If Bloober Team or Konami remake Silent Hill 1, I hope they remake this intro cuz this intro gives me chills.
I love silent Hill
Amazing ♥
the CGI looked surprisingly good for 1999
it's not cgi, it's FMV
@@GuerovaTheGreat whats does FMV stands for ?
@@ElJediDelB612 Full motion video
@@GuerovaTheGreat thanks
Lo mejor que jugué junto a mgs lo mejor de la historia de mi vida 😍
That's insane!
You should take out the stuff at the end. It blocks one of the best parts.
Seeing Dhalia Gillispe in 4K is not what I needed.
It would be a nice touch to the SH fans if they make this again with the render mode as playable and the renders parts with more and real graphs :')
you'll be release from your pain and suffering, Alessa.
Now I can see Alessa's scars that look like second-degree burns all over her body. Before, I only knew they were burns from the bandages and the slight discoloration of her skin, which wasn't clear. Thinking about it now, I can't remember any enemy in the game that didn't look like they had horrible burns. Because of the ending, it makes perfect sense.
Amazing work on this. Just when I thought Silent Hill couldn't get any better.
My only complaint is that there is no option to turn the annotations off at the end, and the video ads block the last bit of the opening. Other than that, everything looks fantastic.
Amazing … and Thank you, I love this game, can you do also FMV sequences from Silent hill 2, my most favorite game?
i think the noise filter is keeping the upscale from looking its best
There's something about the enhancement that I can't put my finger on. It looks... better because things appear textured, but it seems like it's more "detail" than it is texture.
I make the delineation because the "filling-in", the algorithm does, on things like the skin (notably the faces) and cloth on shirts like Cybil Bennett's police shirt don't make them actually discernible as to what they are if you were given a small section of the image (i.e. you can only tell it's a face or a shirt because of the larger image). In more specific terms, facial pores look different than say cloth (in the case of Cybil's shirt, probably cotton) fibers.
The "detail" the algorithm adds, seem like the same "surface" for all things it adds "detail" to. It's super-interesting and I can't wait to see what this kind of technology evolves further into for enhancing poor image quality. However, at this stage, I feel like machine learning for image enhancement is now more at a point where it needs to evolve on the meta-level (surface material changing things like light-scattering and porus texture appearance, etc.) than actual implementation.
If the algorithm allowed someone to mark out in each of the frames, of a video, what each area was composed of (cotton, polyester, skin, cast iron, steel, brushed aluminum, etc.) to sort of help the algorithm along (at least until the algorithm got sufficiently sophisticated to figure that part out on its own) and have the algorithm tweak it's typical routine for what it does for those masked out areas I can imagine it would take the enhancement to another level. Right now, I get the impression that the algorithm's machine learning is applying its understanding of the coloration of a pixel based on the high-statistical probability of a pixel in the area of other specific-colored pixels should be of said color and not factoring in at all what the surface is.
I wish they would do a remake of this game....
Chingonisimo
How have I only just found you! 2 minutes in and I've already subbed and liked! Have you done the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Fmv?
Best game of the ps1 by far....
I guess they redid some stuff for the DVD render of this sequence, Cherryl's book says "drawing block" instead of "coowigr dinok" as it did in the opening from the game. Also in that same shot; Is Harry's car missing a chunk at the bottom left? Great job with the upscaling!
Thank.U
what's the videos intro music? not the silent hill or the gamecube one but what's the first intro music of this video?
Wow!
0:16 - Начало
PLEASE DO THE INTRO OF GOD OF WAR 2005.. :)
Could you tell me how the guitar melody at the begging of the video before the intro is called, please?
Does someone know why most of these scenes in the intro were not included or changed in the game? There are 3 that feel like alternate scenes. Like Cybil's scene in the Church feels like you would have started there or met her instead of Dahlia. Dahlia's scene feels. Like she was running from something or The God after failing or realizing what it was. And Alessa's scene in the bed feels like you would meet her or it would ahow you one of her days in agony.
All those scenes show events before game start.
Damn this is well done! did someone show this to Takayoshi Sato?
Whats the bit with the farmhouse, i don’t remember that in the game ?
It's not in the game. I believe that was the Gillespie's house, where Alessa had burnt.
great
I think the AI makes the intro even creepier. All the models and images have static around them and it just feels all the more unatural, and unsettling. Does anyone else agree with me?
I see noise on the baackground but is a very good job. Can you fix the Silent Hill 2 cinematics?
Where is the Alessa picture at the beginning? :O
Remake ?
Could you please please please please remaster the original starcraft cinematic?
I with there was remaster or remake for SH1
