Not only one of the best Westerns ever, but one of the best movies ever. Great story, great pacing, great dialogue and great cinematography. One of the most under-appreciated films of all time.
To be a teenager again and watching these movies for the first time. Drive-ins, old trucks, lots of friends, BBQ grills and coolers full of soft drinks for a great Saturday night tailgate party. SO many of us are now passed, and we are all old.
It was based on a fiction book by Elmore Leonard, followed the book closely. It may have been based on an historical event, but not sure. It definitely is a classic movie, a great Western.

This revisionist western and The Outlaw Josey Wales have a lot in common: assembling a small group of people from widely disparate backgrounds to do battle against a common enemy, the sense of selfless duty, the importance of Doing The Right Thing, and presenting native Americans in realistic ways to include possessing humor and compassion. It aintainins a solid moral message throughout. Extremely well written and acted. The directing and dialog are superb.
Of the thousands of Westerns ever made, this movie stands out as one of the best deserving a 10, along with the likes of The Wild Bunch, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and The Unforgiven. In a tense and suspenseful robbery-gone-wrong journey through the hot, dry, and rugged terrain of the West, the good, the bad, and the ugly of human nature are on full display, fighting for survival, climaxing with a memorable ending just like the three movies above.
@@tomheringer I remember Shane was a popular movie years after its first release, along with the movie High Noon. I watched the movie when I was an adult. Maybe because of the slow pace and nondramatic storytelling and actions, I saw the movie only once, while I have watched the above four movies at least five times each over the years. Personally, I think the BEST Western of them is the Italian production of the movie Once Upon a Time in the West.
@ is that with James Arness. Bruce Boxleitner? I liked that too. Shane, to me was the ultimate gunfight. Stranger, comes to town, cleans it up and leaves. Classic. The ending. Bye Shane.
What a Western that was. The casting was excellent and the story that Frank the Sheriff tells Jesse about his Life & job? Pretty much summed up what they all were looking too get away from. Other than Russell who was possible going too go back too San Carlos, & live out his life with the Apaches his adopted family. This film projected a lot of questions at people? About how & why we were treating each other the way we did. Hombre who was John Russell the white man. Was one who just wanted too be left alone too live his own Life, with little or no interference from any other's. OF course as he told Jesse. They chose too follow him because he could cut it. And they knew they couldn't. That's a very simple theory when you widdle it down too basic necessity. Thanks for providing this Classic Western Film.
I first watched this film several years ago, it is a superb example of a great story and marvelous cast, Newman, Boone , Balsam etc, films today just don't cut it, you just know why when you watch this kind.
This film is called "Hombre". First time i saw it was back in 1969. One of Paul Newman's great films along with Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy. etc. RIP.
I’m really enjoying this movie. It’s basically a character study, with a bunch of assorted people thrown together for the sake of their characters to play off of each other. It’s quite well done. Hombre, 1967.
That's the first time i read the name of the writer of the novel on which this story is based. Writing in this case is as important as star power . . . such as Paul Newman et al. Thanks for mentioning it.
Muy buen trabajo de P.Newmam's y de los demás actores y actrices, pero ésta película es muy buena por que el guión es excente y el director es muy bueno. Yá la había visto pero,es tan buena que vale la pena volver a verla.pelicula muy recomendable.
I sure would have done things differently in that situation, and that would sure make and interesting conversation. I wonder what others would come up with? Great movie though and grateful to those who host these shows. Sincere, thanks.
Two things that catch the eye, movement and a sudden shine where it shouldn’t be. Stay as still as possible and rub dirt / mud on your boomstick to block the glint from the sun.
Hombre’ is a movie with great plot and character development. A key line happens early in the movie near the 20 min mark. Jesse tells John Russel that when old man Russel died they had a marble stone inscribed with “In the fullness of his years”. She then asked Russel what he thought his stone would say. His answer, “Shot dead probably”. How prophetic.
Gotta love how in these old Westerns, set in a time more than a half-century before the invention of the safety razor, or shaving cream, the men, even after days in the wilderness are perfectly shaven, and the women have perfect makeup. Always gives me a chuckle.
John Russel's 1873 Winchester is still around and can be seen right here on You Tube under the title, "Hombre Winchester". Great anti-Hero film of the day.
Not only one of the best Westerns ever, but one of the best movies ever. Great story, great pacing, great dialogue and great cinematography. One of the most under-appreciated films of all time.
Correct! Truly great movie.

Por suerte Ud.todavia tiene tiempo de vida y disfrutarla.esos grandes actores, ces yá no están con nosotros.

yes sir . u guys lived the good life.
I think this is Paul Newman's greatest role. He had a special connection to this film. It's a true story.
It was based on a fiction book by Elmore Leonard, followed the book closely. It may have been based on an historical event, but not sure. It definitely is a classic movie, a great Western.
coolhand luke
My favor it is cool hand Luke
Not a true story from fictional book
Movie based on 1961 novel
One of my favorite movies! I always watch when I see it's playing . Paul Newman deserves to be remembered!

One of the great legends at his best: Paul Newman. Thanks for posting.

I believe this is Paul Newman best movie ever made - and Richard Boone is great as a bad guy - they both make this a Oscar winning movie
Richard Boone makes any movie great.
like in 'the shootist' with john wayne
Yes now your talking!!!😢😅
Agreed. Boone is great.
I concur 👍
The most honest and realistic movie and shootout ive ever seen ! 2 thumbs up
Watch the last scene they switched out Newmans gun for a double action colt So to speed it up the rifle he used just sold to a collector
I remember seeing this film as a teenager in the early 70's. Always considered it to be one of my favourite films. Newman had such presence.

Newman's best movie. Greed, cowardice, prejudice made a good supporting cast.

Martin Balsam is a perfect foil for Paul Newman. Balsam was such a great, versatile character actor!
A movie that adeptly contrasts good and evil while still managing to entertain superbly.
