I Won’t definitely getting one of those aswell as they are £4 on sea front for the same size
The only time you should ever have a medium cooked burger is when they are grinding their own mince every day fresh in the actual establishment . That is the only time . That is why most burgers are cooked all the way through cos they buy mince from cash and carry and 99% of places do not grind their own unlike in the USA where many of them do and serve medium burgers.

Maybe he should use dehydrated onions like Maccy Ds. do on most of theirs. Simple and easy and good on Hot dogs. Just boil them.
