The Process Of Making Friends With a Emperor Dragonfly

  • I've always wanted to raise dragonflies, and recently started raising dragonfly larvae.
Dragonfly larvae have powerful lower lip, so they can hunt small insects as well as fish.
So I started taking care of the dragonfly larvae by feeding them mealworms, killifish, and shrimp, and one day one of the larvae molt.
And the other dragonfly larvae also started turning green.
I could feel the dragonfly larvae would soon become adult dragonflies and I started observing them every day.
And finally the dragonfly larvae begin to emerge into adults.
Please enjoy the story of Pleasebee and dragonflies!

Dragonflies are probably my favorite insect, not just because they're beautiful, or because they can hover and fly fast, but also because they keep mosquito populations down.

Mosquitos itself keep their population down. There imposter mosquito that eats other mosquito larvas as larva and drink nectar as adult.

Same. I always have like 1 or 2 Dragonflies flying around outside and inside my house because they were looking for mosquitoes to eat. I’m glad that my grandma made me like dragonflies. Because we used to catch them when I was a kid before she passed away.

I'm 64 years old, and grew up on a farm. I spent a lot of time near ponds, streams and woods. I grew up seeing lots of Dragonfly's, but never went to the trouble of learning much about them or even their names until lately. I have been fortunate over the last few summers to be able to catch a few local varieties on Video. I Watched a documentary on them just yesterday, explaining their "Unique" body Design and flight Characteristics. One of Gods most "Amazing Creations" for sure. You have a lot of patience and love for nature. You invested a great deal of time, that will help more people to understand Dragonfly's. I really enjoyed this video! "Great Job"! 😊👍

I had a pet dragonfly that I named "Draggy" when I was younger. My father and I had found them when they had just crawled out of the water, and I decided to keep them. We had a screened in porch that I put Draggy on, and I spent lots of time out there holding them and even trying to "teach" them how to fly. I like to say that I successfully taught them how to fly haha. Eventually, I let Draggy go. They let me hold them as I walked through the house to go to the backyard, and wouldn't leave for a bit even when we were outside. I remember watching Draggy fly off into the distance, and I still think about them sometimes. I'll never forget you, Draggy! :)

They are of course still wild animals and have instincts driving them to do what nature bids them, but its kinda cool to see that they must have gotten desensitized to your presence and know you're not a threat, because as adults they just let you poke them and hold them. They have such complex eyes, I'm willing to believe they're smart enough to know you're their Giant Food Feeding Buddy.

Then, he flew circles around me and followed me around while I was swimming. Whenever I would lift my hand he would come and land on my finger and stay for a long time. He would land, then turn around, lift his head and just look at me for several minutes. I never knew dragonflies were friendly like that. That was really exciting for that to happen. Love the video!! I think next time, however, it might be wise to add some substrate at the bottom of the aquarium. Maybe some soil from the pond, as well as adding more plant matter from where you found the larvae. It would help create a healthier and more natural ecosystem for the dragonfly nymphs. :)

I think dragonflies are intelligent. I remember trying to catch some a lake near my home. Every time I failed, the dragon flies would fly closer to me. In and out, almost as if teasing me. I stayed there for a good hour just playing around with them and even forgot I was fishing. Beautiful creatures

Dragonflies are INCREDIBLE. They hunt with a 95% success rate, making them by far the most formidable hunters on the planet!
In comparison, the Peregrin Falcon, another amazing aerial hunter, only has a kill rate of 22%!
With their incredible 360° vision, and 4 wings which they can each move independently, it's probably better for everyone that dragonflies aren't as large as small hawks anymore!😅😅🦟🐛 Thanks, Evolution!🎉

I used to live in Miami, USA, and one day while tending my plants I discovered one small dragonfly, it had a bluish body, then another one with yellow body and bigger, the next day an orange one, a black one, different colors and sizes in just one place and even with colored stripes on the winds. It was amazing, I did not know. They are beautiful

So lovely what you do and how you capture everything! Do you have Damsel Flies where you live? They are smaller and similar to dragon flies but with wings on the top flowing back. They are my favorite insect and are so intelligent and beautiful I especially love the light blue ones. They come in several colors where I was raised on the river in the southern US. I would talk to them and make friends...and one would always pick me as his own! He would guard me from all others so that they would not land on me or take away my attention to him. This is a beautiful video! Thank you!

The way you take care of your pets is amazing, they have to hunt for their food and you leave them be in their natural processes so it's easier if they escape to nature and that's part of your plan, most people just feed their pets dead pieces of the food instead of leaving some way of having to work for it, causing them to have a 90% fatality rate if they ever to back to nature. Yes, I made that number up, but it's close to my observations.
