Unbreakable fits really well into her discography actually, it's a showing of maturity, and naturally mellowing down a bit as most of us do when we age. With that said I think it was right on time, and the record reflects that very well, while maintaining the Janet/Jam/Lewis sound that had been missing for a long time, since she had branched out with a lot of other producers on Damita Jo/20YO, and she didn't have any creative hand (at least as far as songwriting/production) in the making of Discipline. The record for sure could have used a couple more uptempo tracks, but IMO if she went the sex route again she probably would have been blasted for it...she leaned into sex a lot ever since .janet, so it was nice to see a change of pace. Also she technically wasn't a mother yet, she wasn't pregnant until the Unbreakable Tour had started.
Janet did not birth Eissa or divorce Wissam until 2017, two years after Unbreakable came out (2015). So no she was not post divorce or a mother when that album came out.
imo Unbreakable is a top 5 Janet album, it is her most personal to date, it's a GROWN album, she was sharing a lot of knowledge and advice, it feels like a sister album to The Velvet Rope. Also, even though it's not one of my favs, 20 Y.O. is very underrated, it was supposed to pay homage to the sounds of the era when Control was released and I think it does that very well with the electro production and the slow rnb jams, while also managing to sound current, and the production still sounds fresh in 2023. imo Discipline is a far less cohesive album, the singles were great but it lacks a lot of involvement from Janet. Love the fact that you give Damita Jo its flowers, VERY underrated record. Great video as usual! My personal ranking at this moment: 1. The Velvet Rope 2. Rhythm Nation 3. Damita Jo 4. All for You 5. Unbreakable 6. janet. 7. Control 8. 20 Y.O. 9. Discipline 10. Janet Jackson 11. Dream Street
Velvet Rope and All for you were my favourites. My insight is that they both manifest her sweetest era. Not Janet's best-selling albums, but she managed to kept her audience while releasing calm but powerful tracks
If you haven't listened to Unbreakable fully since release.... you should pick it up a few more times. It's an excellent collection, so strong.... and deserves to root itself into all Janet fans' lives :)
My ranking🔮 1. The Velvet Rope (1997) 2. Rhythm Nation (1989) 3. janet. (1993) 4. Control (1986) 5. All For You (2001) 6. Damita Jo (2004) 7. Discipline (2008) 8. 20 Yo (2006) 9. Unbreakable (2015) 10. Self-Titled (1982) 11. Dream Street (1984)
Absolutely love this . With the exception of Un Breakable being at #9 I totally agree with all of your other rankings. TVR, RN and Control just hit different like no other albums Ive ever heard or experiences ever in life... Those albums are next level . Shes one of the most creative and talented artist of all time. Janet and MJ are my favorite artist of all time
man. thank you for this. agree/disagree/don't care... doesn't matter, more people need to talk about her music. sincerely, a lifelong fan currently getting bummed out once again by her bad pr
i am BEGGING you to do a video discussing the parallels/differences between Janet’s and Mariah’s careers. since watching this video, i can’t stop noticing the similarities when i listen to both of them. it’s even interesting thinking about how they each have a lot of tracks that would prob still be amazing (vocally different of course) if the other one made it. and even just their pretty unparalleled longevity and ability to reinvent themselves.
Rhythm Nation is my absolute favorite Janet album. I adore every song in it. The Velvet Rope is close second - another deep masterpiece! Then come All For You and Control. Great ranking and thoughts. I hope you will do videos about Whitney Houston, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton, Kate Bush albums
Ngl im janet fan myself. My favorite albums by her are Rythm nation and Velvet Rope. 3rd would be JANET. Those 3 albums Alone are her top 3 off rip... Honorable mentions. " Control " and 20 Y.O should've been a greatest hits collection n like 5 new tracks. With "call on me" being one of the 5 new tracks.
Never listened to her first 3 albums, but my top favs: 1. Velvet Rope 2. Janet 3. Rhythm Nation 4. All 4 U 5. Damita Jo 6. Unbreakable 7. 20 YO 8. Discipline
Great video- I always love your album rankings! I usually agree with you but I can’t believe the Janet album is only number 4!!! I have to blame your young age. I got to experience the era for this album and it was mesmerizing. I would’ve put it at number one but otherwise I think you completely right on the order of these albums.
My ranking 1. TVR 2. Janet. 3. All for you 4. RN1814 5. Unbreakable 6. Control 7. Damita Jo 8. Discipline 9. 20 Y.O Unbreakable is the mature and evolved TVR
20 YO just feels like Jermaine Dupri production leftovers from the past year and a half that Janet just chose from that selection. The main issue of 20YO is that all of her other records feel either ahead of their time that many acts after will take inspiration from or are just timeless songs which shows because "Someone to Call My Lover" has been making waves on Tiktok lately. While 20YO definitely just sounds like mid 2000s RnB especially Call on Me just feels like 2006. That being said, Enjoy is one of my favorite songs by Janet and feels like a celebration of how much she has done. I also would put Discipline higher than Damita Jo if this was my list simply because Discipline is just so fresh and a good amount of songs can pass if they were released today. It's just highly underrated and even if it did get Janet back on MTV and to the top of the album charts it still needs more attention. Damita Jo feels more like a retread rather than a sequel to All for You in my opinion, it covers a lot of the same themes except this time instead of longing for a man she already has one (Jermaine Dupri). I will say though Damita Jo is probably the most expensive and rich album from Janet production wise. Having Kanye West as a credit is still shocking even today.
She wasn't a mom yet when Unbreakable came out. She ended up suspending the supporting tour because she had a baby. The album was out around the time that tour began.
All for you The velvet Rope 20 Y.O Damita Jo Discipline Janet Rhythm Nation Control Unbreakable This is my ranking after I just finished listening to her studio albums It made me like her because I had a hard time getting into her music because Janet has the type of voice I usually don't go for in artists but after listening to her music, I've appreciated her artistry and what she has done for the music landscape. Damita Jo was on the same line as All for You but once I re listen to it a month later I wasn't in love with the album as much. 20 Y.0 is number three because I like the feeling of the celebration it gave me.
My Ranking 1. The Velvet Rope 2. Rhythm Nation 3. Janet 4. Control 5. All For You 6. Damita Jo 7. Unbreakable 8. Janet Jackson 9. Dream Street 10. Discipline 11. 20 Yo
Great ranking. I think it's reasonable but I'd make adjustments from 3 down. Here's my ranking: 1) Velvet Rope 2) RN 1814 3) Janet. 4) Control 5) All For You 6) Unbreakable 7) Discipline 8) Damita Jo 9) 20 Years Old
her first two albums are pretty good and have some bops! especially Dream Street. it's super hard to rank her albums :( i have something to say ab every one. honestly ur kinda inspiring me to start making youtube videos talking ab my music opinions hehe.
Just found your channel. Love these videos. Just getting back into listening to albums instead of just playlists. Would you ever do a video discussing your favourite albums of all time or recommend albums. Great video. Listened to Velvet rope today.
Janet's first album deserves a seat at the table, It was a good debut and gave her her first 2 crossover hits of her career. She worked with Angela Winbush on half of it and it definitely shows. but "Dream Street" is one of the worse albums ever. Even Janet hates it.
5:30 I can agree that 20 Y.O. has a terrible title and isn’t in her best work. But I will say that she had some certified bops from the album, Show Me, Get It Out Me, This Body, Enjoy. But I have to give you credit, there is no real focus on the record and the themes clash with each other.
The thing is, as inferior as 20 Y.0. was compared to the last 2 decades of music that it purports to celebrate, it will ALWAYS be better to me than the hugely uninspired and dreary Discipline (worst post-1986 Janet album in terms of uptempos (just good enough) and especially the awfully corny slow jams). Discipline is a Ciara album cosplaying as a Janet one. Janet was so out of it in 07-08 that she didn't even bother to write a song for it. It's that much of an afterthought.
Honestly her 2000's are the best. All these people making their lists are based on sells, legendary status and bandwagoning rather than actual opinion, substance and content.
20 Y.O wasn’t a good album because, for me, it doesn’t feel like a “Janet Jackson” album and more like a, “Jermaine Dupri presents a Janet Jackson” album. Under his direction, the songs feel so out of place with Janet’s musical style and just embarrassing to her image, because the hip hop elements made the entire album feel like an old woman, trying keep up with the current music trends, at the time, to stay relevant. Janet is all pushing music boundaries and setting the trend, not following it!
Velvet Rope is absolutely her best album I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Rhythm Nation for me
Literal perfection

Her album covers are untouchable 😊
My top three albums from Janet will be 1.RN14, 2. TVR, and 3. Janet.
Velvet Rope is indeeed her best project!!! But Rhythm Nation is a close up 🔥🔥🔥🔥
No its actually better. It has 6 hits on it
We need a Whitney rating next, also loved the video ❤️✨️
Rhythm Nation is 🔥
Can you do a ranking of her brother’s albums? I think he’s name is Michael👀. Loved the Thriller deep dive btw!
*his
Janet did not birth Eissa or divorce Wissam until 2017, two years after Unbreakable came out (2015). So no she was not post divorce or a mother when that album came out.
The thing is, Janet recently sang songs from the first 2 albums in live shows recently. It's nice she has started to embrace it.
I think next up it’s time for a ranking of Michael’s albums!
imo Unbreakable is a top 5 Janet album, it is her most personal to date, it's a GROWN album, she was sharing a lot of knowledge and advice, it feels like a sister album to The Velvet Rope. Velvet Rope album #1 for me! Design of the Decade followed by Janet are the runner ups. She has a great body of work. I'm a huge fan! ❤

Yeah i think Unbreakable is so inspiring and have a truly healthy state of mind.

Oh your crazy putting the Unbreakable album at #9.
Just found your channel. Love these videos. Just getting back into listening to albums instead of just playlists. Would you ever do a video discussing your favourite albums of all time or recommend albums. Great video. Listened to Velvet rope today.
I’ve thought about it. It’s definitely on my list of videos to make! Might have to push it to the top of my list. Thank you for watching!
The reason why you feel the way you feel about 20 YO and discipline is because those records got no airplay to influence a good reception
Heres mine!!!

Unbreakable that you got too low. She's an adult now. 😆
Stopped watching whilst seeing Unbreakable at the bottom.
👍🏾
"come give your love to me" was the jamm off the "Janet Jackson" effort.
All for you and damita jo are my favorites
ms janettt
damita jo is definitely top 2 albums for me oops
Damita jo sounds to me like a mix of Janet quality and sophistication with the sound of The Emancipation of Mimi
Janet's first album deserves a seat at the table, It was a good debut and gave her her first 2 crossover hits of her career. She worked with Angela Winbush on half of it and it definitely shows. but "Dream Street" is one of the worse albums ever. Even Janet hates it.

Can do you a Madonna and P!nk album ranking?
You should rank Nicki and Rihanna’s albums

Glad that's only your opinion.......Cause her die hard fans like myself loved it.
