    I know this is coming late but thanks for the tutorial. I just got a request for weighted average of rates on one of my projects. This video helped me solve it much quicker.

    I use the weighted average allt the time as a business controller because it is often more relevant than the usual average in our business. The way you demonstrate it's use is much more efficient than my way so thank you! It really helps :-)

    No need to divide by the sum of the weights because the weights are percentages.

      yep!
      but i guess teaching that helps in getting weighted averages in general, whether the weights are %'s or not

    My problem for the weighted average of steel indices as shown in our agreement - like this : -
    (iii) Adjustment for Steel Component
    Price adjustment for increase or decrease in the cost of Steel procured
    by the contractor under different schedules of BOQ shall be paid in
    accordance with the following formula:
    Formulae-I (for all schedules of BOQ except bill/schedule-2 B & 2
    C):
    Vs = Ps / 100 X RI X (S1-S0) / S0
    Vs = Increase or decrease in the cost of work on the date under
    consideration due to changes in the rates for Steel.
    S0 = The weighted average of index Numbers of Wholesale
    Prices in India by Groups and Sub Groups (Averages) for
    (i) MS Bright Bars under Mild Steel -Long
    Products sub-group (weight=1)
    (ii) Angles, Channels, Sections, steel
    (coated/not) under Mild Steel -Long Products
    sub-group (weight=2)
    (iii) Mild Steel - Flat products sub-group
    (weight=1)
    published in RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Bulletin / website of the
    office of the Economic Adviser in the month on the day 28 days
    prior to the closing date of submission of Bids.
    S1 = The weighted average of index Numbers of Wholesale Prices
    in India by Groups and Sub Groups (Averages) for
    (i) MS Bright Bars under Mild Steel - Long Products subgroup
    (weight=1)
    (ii) Angles, Channels, Sections, steel (coated/not) under
    Mild Steel - Long Products sub-group (weight=2)
    (iii) Mild Steel - Flat products sub-group (weight=1)
    published in RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Bulletin / website of the office
    of the Economic Adviser in the month on the day 28 days prior to the
    last day of the period to which a particular interim payment certificate is
    related.
    Ps = Percentage of Steel component of the work.
    BASE DATE IS 25 MARCH'2019)
    Hope you will understand it properly and will give proper solution that how to get "weighted average of MS Bright Bar, e-Mild Steel - flat product and Angle channels ..)

    This only works if %100 of assignments have already been submitted. You need to be using SUMIF instead of SUM in the denominator to factor in pending assignments. =SUMPRODUCT(C4:C8,D4:D8)/SUMIF(C4:C8,">=0",D4:D8). I get that this is a tutorial, but using SUM is just plain lazy and asking for careless mistakes.

    • @Computergaga
      @Computergaga  2 года назад +1

      Good tip. I think lazy is a strong word. It depends on the case. You use what you need.
      If assignments are pending we need it. If that is not a scenario we don't.

    Hi.. I need help. I need to calculate the final mark between 2 papers. Paper 1 40 marks for 50%. Paper 2 60 marks for 50%. I used the formula in the video but get 131% in total instead of 100%. Could you help me out please?

    I didn't get one point. At the end, you divided sumproduct function by sum of the weights which are always 100%. We know that dividing something with 100% we will get the same thing. Then why did you put the total of weights in the denominator of the fraction?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @Computergaga
      @Computergaga  2 года назад

      This is for scenarios when the weights do not add up to 1.
