    BMW 4 series convertible F33 LEAK!!! . BMW are aware their cars had issues and repaired THOSE... improving drainage free of charge under manufacturer three year warranty. However, those who own a car over three years old and now out of warranty have no choice other than paying astronomical dealership investigative costs! BMW should've issued a recall! I share this issue with the hope someone at hashtag#bmwuk sees this and can help press for a recall or dealer fix for this ever so common and potentially costly repair.. hashtag#help hashtag#press hashtag#cars hashtag#investigative hashtag#dealership hashtag#bmwpress hashtag#berrybmw hashtag#perthlandrover hashtag#pentlandlandrover

    I’ve drilled holes with a 20mm hole saw beneath the drain plug on each side of my 2014 f33. Off side window regulator sounds rough because of being submerged.
    Contrary to a previous comment, it’s not an issue with aged window trims. You will never stop water getting past them. The problem is the plastic cill trims that block the drain. For a “prestige” company to have this issue is poor, but to not recall for a modification is disgusting treatment of it’s customers.
    A friend of mine was discussing this issue on his 435d when he was in the process of buying a new M4. The salesman said BMW had resolved the issue but with less than 500 miles on his new car he heard the familiar sound of water sloshing in the rear seat side panel. The dealership drilled the holes in the cill trim during it’s 1st service.

      Depends on circumstances but condition of window seals is a factor. Mine was a few years old when I did the drain mod but no water had got into the compartment, presumably because the window seals are still good. I guess if you point a jetwash at them though some water might get in. I'm always pretty careful about where I point a jetwash, not directly at anywhere where water could ingress into the car and not directly at parking sensors because a jetwash can damage those too.

      I just found a BMW document explaining how to fix the problem. So they're aware of it.

  • @TonyJvideos
    @TonyJvideos 4 года назад +16

    Here's the fix..
    The problem is this, bear with me.. The rear window seals on a convertible over time don't seal and water finds its way into the compartment behind the doors. If the water builds up enough it will overflow and affect nearby electrics. There is a drain plug (located about 6" in front of the back wheels) but this is blocked by the under-panel and sills.
    The cure is to peel back the under-tray and sill (release 2 plastic pin- rivets in the rear wheel arch and 2x plastic T30 screws underneath, then just bend them downwards). Then remove the large plastic drain plug. It's a 13mm hex socket, you probably won't have a 13mm allen key but can easily make one from a nut and couple of bolts. It only needs to be turned about 10 degrees anti-clockwise, you'll feel it click, then the plug can be withdrawn.
    Clean the large plastic drain plug which has a "debris diverting tower" attached (looks a bit like a helter skelter, keeps leaves etc from dropping over the 4 small drain holes in the bottom of the drain plug. You can open out / enlarge these holes in the drain plug slightly with a drill if you like, I did).
    Then drill a 10mm hole through both the plastic undershield and the sills (as per the BMW service bulletin TIS) which line up with the drain plug and the water will no longer build up in that compartment. I actually cut a small recess in the plastic sills with a dremel-type tool to make a recess so it sits around, not over the drain plug and just drilled the 10mm hole in the under-tray, but the drainage affect is the same.
    Essentially BMW should have designed the under-tray and sills with recesses / cut-outs for the drain plugs, but they didn't so the 2 layers of plastic over the plug block it from being able to drain.

    • @tonyjh6859
      @tonyjh6859 3 года назад +1

      A few gallons of water isn't going to affect the handling as much as the extra weight of the hardtop roof enginnering (and xdrive system if you have it) already does. Yes definitely there's danger of damage to the amp and electrics if the water from those compartments overflows though, as many have found out the hard way.

    My M4 was the same and one day the hood wouldn’t close because the wires on the window regulator had been sat in the water until corrosion made the wire snap. Once the window won’t operate then neither will the hood. I went underneath the car and forced the plug out to leave a bigger opening for the water to exit the car then fitted the new regulator and everything is fine now.

    Anyone searching for instruction with convertible top up and window not rolling down. You need to use a diagnostic OBD tablet (I use Autel MqxiCOM mk808) plugs into car OBD port, go through menu to command car to put convertible top on service mode, once in service mode, you can open the convertible using the open button on the car. If top acting weird after replaced the window regulator, then you have to go through the menu to initialise power window regulators. I hope this helps anyone who got a broken window regulator flooded inside the rear quarter panel.

Found this post and did as Speedbird suggests, then waited 10 minutes while water drained, not just from the nearside rear quarter but also a steady stream from the area behind the front wheel too. My BMW E93 Convertible, had the same issue but much worse, if you don't empty the water, it leaks inside the car, despite two summers the water remained under the carpet and didn't dry out. My only option was to remove the saturated back seat and take it indoors, replace the entire interior carpet. Vacuum out the water and leave the car to dry for one entire summer. The leather interior got mould every where, had to get the seats recoated and two years later the car still remains under a cover and still isn't back on the road due to electrical issues. Now I got a low millage immaculate 330i drop top garden ornament! lol

I found out the back left in boot where the amp was had water in it. I soaked it with tissues and towel/hairdryer it so far has resolved it. But I’m sure water will come again so next week taking it to a specialist as official bmw charge £155 for investigation, then cost to fix which Iv heard is 1-2k. They offered goodwill but that was no guarentee. The technician found the fault but for a proper investigation wanted £155. No chance I’m paying that since uv shown me the problem and despite it just having a service. It’s a manufacturing fault! Where exactly were the screws and how did you take them out?

    had a m4 comp convertible for only 2 months I noticed water dripping infront back wheel few days ago first thought is it petrol then when I rocked my side skirt the next day tiny puddle on floor etc had car cleaned then 2 days later same result water leaked on floor I could see dripping through screws holding side skirt on well now it’s going in bmw As can see the rear window seal is tiny bit loose as I ran cup water on window and can see don’t run off properly so bmw poor design with no exit holes and the window seal not tight enough I’ve got same problem.its crazy after I did some research how many people had this problem I’ve seen some crazy videos worst then this one even

      It's terrible mate, yes some people having water literally gushing out. They should have sorted this out with a recall. Bloody ridiculous!

      Speedbird787 fact I payed 37 grand for it only had biascally 2 months then found out this issue say it’s ridiculous is understatement you wouldn’t expect this problem.I’m just glad I’ve found out now and mine was only little bit water so hopefully after new seal and I tell them make hole won’t happen again as I’ve seen some bad videos this included

    This movie is utterly useless! There are other movies about this issue actually explaining how to solve it, instead of a 6min video of water draining....

    Brilliant video of water running out of a sill.... Absolutely bloody pointless.

    Had the same, absolutely ridiculous design to have the side skirt and undercarriage completely blocking the water exit! Have done a video showing the fix if anyone is interested: ruclips.net/video/ERd_pRjs6Uw/видео.html
