  • The world is getting a look at some of the souvenirs Armstrong brought home from Apollo 11. They were all gear that NASA was going to throw away, and now they're on display at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington. Wyatt Andrews reports.

    When I look at old testimonies of Neil Armstrong that shows he knew how to keep a secret, that he didn’t seek the limelight, that he was a scientist at heart with an objectivity that can explain behavior like carelessly tossing priceless Apollo items into his closet, it just reinforces to me why NASA chose him to be the one to first step down on that mysterious moon soil. He could be trusted to remain calm and collected under immense, terrifying pressure. For me, he is the gold standard for brass balls and a true hero.

  • @daffidavit
    @daffidavit 6 лет назад +8

    The camera must be worth a lot more than "a million dollars". The Bulova watch worn by David Scott on Apollo 15 during his 3rd EVA sold for $1.62 million U.S. a few years ago at an internet auction. See the Bulova insert that comes with a replica of the only other watch worn on the moon. The replica was recently produced maybe three years ago when Bulova learned the original watch was sold at the auction for so much money. It is now near the end of August, 2018.
    The story goes that Scott broke the plastic face cover of his Omega Speedmaster inside the LEM after the 2nd EVA so he had to use the watch that Bulova made especially for him to bring along as a backup. I believe if an Apollo 15 watch can be sold for over a million dollars, then the first movie camera ever used on the moon and took such iconic movies must be worth so much more.

      Can we just keep in mind that camera is a 16mm film movie camera, and did not take the video we are used to seeing from the moon landings? It took the movies made during the landing looking straight down, and some other shots.
      From Wiki-pedia: 16-millimeter Maurer Data Acquisition Camera. Apollo 11 carried two Maurer data acquisition cameras, one on the command module and one on the lunar module. The cameras were used primarily to record engineering data and for continuous-sequence terrain photography. The CM camera had lenses of 5-mm, 10-mm, and 75-mm focal lengths; the LM camera was fitted with an 18-mm wide-angle lens. Accessories included a right-angle mirror, a power cable, and a CM boresight window bracket.
      16-mm movie (Maurer Camera)The Maurer camera weighed 2.8 pounds with a 130-foot film magazine attached. It had frame rates of 1, 6, and 12 fps automatic and 24 fps semiautomatic at all lens focal lengths, and shutter speeds of 1/60, 1/125, 1/500, and 1/1000 second, again, at all lens focal lengths.

      The laser reflector was simply part of the moon landing Hoax. In fact, you can bounce a laser beam off of the Lunar surface WITHOUT the aid of a reflector and it has been proven many times over. I might add that the laser beams are around 100 meters wide when they strike the Lunar surface, so a small mirror wouldn't do you any good.

    • @spearhead787
      @spearhead787 5 лет назад

      Yes there is and it's still used to measure highly accurately,the distance between earth and moon from time to time. A laser is fired at it,and it reflects back. It's how they discovered the moon is moving slowly away from earth, at around 4 centimetres per year.

      I have found that it is pretty much guaranteed that anyone who mentions the Van Allen Belts as an insurmountable obstacle to space travel really knows next to nothing about radiation or these belts. The Van Allen Belts are called after James Van Allen, who worked for NASA and is credited with their discovery. While travel through this region of space requires careful planning, it is not the insurmountable obstacle that many reality deniers, in their ignorance, imagine it to be. The Van Allen Belts is a region of charged particles originating mainly from the solar wind that are contained by the Earth's magnetic field. The capsule walls and equipment shielded the astronauts from the vast majority of the particle radiation. The radiation dosage received by an astronaut while passing through the Van Allen Belts will depend on factors such as speed, shielding, trajectory, time spend in the region etc. The aim of the Apollo missions was to minimise the time spent in this region of space and thus reduce the exposure to a minimum. Here is quote from James Van Allen himself in 2004. "the outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage - a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights". Take care.

    This is a FILM camera and thus was not the source of the man stepping down the ladder--that was video. Obviously the "expert" on this RUclips did not know the difference.
    P.S. the video from the Moon was transmitted "slow scan" and the cap com was effectively live. This fact means that the Neil's audio statement could not have come simultaneously with the video. Conversion had to be done, first, to get the slow scan to deliver smoothed normal motion and secondly, to marry Neil's audio to match the video to release to public. The other manipulation was to electronically convert what NASA produced (the married version) to the American TV standard for public broadcast.
    Many reports say that the EME video was very visually clear upon first reception. Some blame the fuzzy USA picture was to increase the credibility via adding fuzz and others blame the use of a "film chain" of pointing the video camera at the tv screen--which is fuzzy with 1969 technology.
    Also, due to slow scan video, cap com's advice of where to point the Moon video camera with live audio to Neil is tv faking.
    The use of slow scan provides a definite lie to the Moon shot. It does not refute men on the Moon, but it damages credibility. We can conclude, if "they" lie about this, what else is a lie and fake?

      This is a a motion camera (I think they called it a data acquisition camera) that was mounted inside the LM pointing out the window. It did show Armstrong' first steps but not the TV view we all saw but the view out the window. It was not live but is viewable now. In the bag was also the bracket used to mount it. I have seen where they went through every piece of equipment in the bag and identified in photos inside the LM that piece in use. It was very interesting.
      What I want to learn is how did Armstrong get the bag in the first place? At that time they had all the "moon germ" precautions in place and I would imagine every piece of equipment inside the capsule upon return to earth was tracked and logged. The other astronauts would certainly have known it was with them on the way home and not supposed to be, but supposed to be left in the LM when they disconnected from it. With all the moon ricks you would think they were really aware of weight and would not allow extra weight to go home with them. I wonder if they were short of estimated weight because they took less rocks back then anticipated and wanted the extra weight and that's why it sent back with them.

    Neil was very talented pilot, great man, humble and honorable human being. So he had huge problems with lying, even though he was forced to do so. Still he couldn't give many interviews and every time he did - we could read between the lines. Obviously he took the bag home and kept it as a proof that "the mission" was fake and filmed on Earth. Official story was that all the equipment including cameras were LEFT ON THE MOON. Of course they were never on the Moon so he just simply took them home from the stage after those props were not needed anymore. It looks funny and sad at the same time to watch news like that and fake interpretations of the bag story. I hope Neil Armstrong is proud of those who know the truth. His "truth's protective layers" are being removed slowly just as he wanted. Respect to that man. No matter what some may say about him. Unlike many other "astronauts" he gave us enough hints about the truth, and took the risk to do so. Respect indeed.

      yummybeers. I agree. you have WON. Some people don't care and will die at the age of 80 believing in fantasies. It's fine. But funny thing is that when somebody goes against mainstream, the response he gets is "where is your proof". Like mainstream theoretical science didn't have all the support of people like you who won't believe any proofs or see any facts if they are against their belief, their religion. Of course 500 years is enough to brainwash generations.
      But no. You're right. I will go and you have another beer. It will for sure help your brain cells develop and I assure you won't see more ever. Just take a guess why alcohol and dumb TV shows are promoted so much all over the world for decades. Why most of people prefer to watch stupid comedy show or Discovery science emotional presentations of "greatest achievements of man kind" like playing golf on the moon and jumping like bunnies. Yes. Very honorable for the humanity. Yet people think it is. Yes - you've got the answer. The answer is: "beer and party". Your previous posts shown how it works in terms of ignoring facts. If you could take some time and watch official films and videos of NASA for real you would get your FACTS easily.
      But you want me to give you them out of nowhere without a context and your personal involvement. It will NOT WORK ever.

I would help (I'd like to) if you didn't throw me to the bucket with crazy ones - just because you don't know, don't care and... but wait.... party is calling. You better go... Have fun.
