  • National Book Award Winner and singer/songwriter Patti Smith will read from her reissued and slightly expanded edition of Woolgathering. David Ulin of the Los Angeles Times describes the book perfectly as "a mix of the practical and the mythic, like the marriage of rock n' roll and poetry." The effortlessly prolific Smith will read, answer audience questions, and sign her books. Come for an evening of pure Smith.

warrior poet Patti has always been a mass of contradictions : grown up + girly, tough + fragile, strong + sweet, innocent + street-wise, otherworldly + human, the mirror and the light, this great generosity of spirit.

She's awesome. I've been a fan since my parents were listening to her in the 70s, and as I got older I learned to appreciate her work more and more. Her power is in her passion for honesty. She's an inspiration.

I've only recently started reading Patti Smith's books, maybe for a year, and I've never heard of "Woolgathering" before. I know what book just got added to my to-be-read list!

than you so much for this video, I'm 21 and Patti has been my inspiration since less than a year...I felt in love with her poetry first and then her musics...she inspires me to write, I'll be very happy if one day I'll have half of her talent. I will see her for the first time next summer, in a concert in France, it will be a marvellous moment for me...I'm so impatient !
Yes Patti Smith you still touches people with your work and I'm so happy to have discovered yours...thank you thank you !!
(sorry for my modest english, I'm french)

She is natural. She grew up surrounded by love of parents and siblings, I guess. That makes her who she is. If we have more of her, like billion, then human being is ok.

I listened to Patti doing one of these readings & taking questions, a few days ago.
She seemed to be rather condescending & mean towards a couple of people. One was a young kid wanting to expose his burgeoning music channel. She gave a sort of mean reply and shut him down. She did later on though seem to realise that she might have come across as rather unpleasant and made an effort to try and redeem herself, for want of a better description.
Maybe it was a bad day for her, but I was disappointed with her somehow as it didn't resonate with her 'be kind & understanding' mantra. If I'd been that young kid, she'd have really made me feel like shit. The kid just wanted a mention by one of his heroines and it felt like she was belittling him almost?
