I've been enjoying taking these decks down recently. You have two options. Run a lot of graveyard hate. Dennick shuts the whole thing down, for example. Or run control because the deck needs to cast emergence to work. When you see that gaze, try to have an answer ready for turn 3-4.
This is the shoetest deck explanation I've ever heard for ya! Other than your April fools deck tech lol Getting straight into the games, lets gooooo!!!! Appreciate you tons, man!
@@LegenVD I exported the deck, so fun to play. I saw 22 lands and I was a little concerned at first, but it runs great with the amount of lands in it. You are really good at making decks!
Lost to this deck just an hour or so ago,,, thanks LegendVD! 🙂 Well... if you can't beat em, might as well join them... I'll be net-decking this one for sure! Cheers!
Been playing a version of this deck for a week but it's a 5 color version, uses the orzhov battle to bring back anything including atroxa, titan, portal, gin, etc.
Was that you i fought earlier in the week? You were like water with the deck, i could tell you'd been playing it for a while because you did so many actions so quickly. I was honestly inspired, since i had made a goyf focused version of the deck with founding and somnophage but squirming i completely overlooked this set!
@@AllstateManlove if the name was "The Question" then ya. I'm playing right now actually (while studying), running a doom foretold that's a much different vibe...slow burn
You could also switch out Cut Down for Dead Weight, which is a -2/-2 effect that adds a permanent to your graveyard if it destroys a creature, as opposed to the instant that doesn't.
I've used Dead Weight in other descend decks! The instant and sorceries don't contribute to the permanent count but they still synergise very well with Founding and Prankster. So it's definitely a fine line but the higher card quality seems worth it.
I also do 4xGaze, 4xFounding and 4xSquirming... but then I do the 4xThe Ancient One + 4xFight Rigging combo. No more low costs... just a bunch of wincons. 1xGhalta, 1xJin, 2xOne with the Multiverse, 3xPortal to Phyrexia, 2xAtraxa, 2xTitan of Indusrty and 1xCityscape Leveler. This way ancinet one + fight rigging almost always hit something nice turn 3... and if you're not milling or rigging, but have squirming emergence in your hand, the ancient one can send something big to the graveyarg at the op end step, mill a lot of options for you to bring back turn 5 and now the ancient one can attack/block.
can someone tell me what Arena's "descent symbol" is supposed to depict? I find most other symbols fitting and quite obvious - such as flashback, mutate or proliferate - but the descent one? it looks like a crossbow to me, which makes no sense of course, so maybe a pickaxe? but what's a pickaxe got to do with the descent mechanic?
This deck is great but trust me you gonna have those moments where you mill like3/4 your deck and find the 4 copies of squirming emergence at the bottom of the deck. Fair and balanced shuffler. 10/10
I love squirming emergence. I am playing it in a golgari midrange with ,moswood knight, glissa, sheoldred and old tustein. Win cons are the black Virtue, The dual sheoldred and toxril, so It's not so flashy but very fun to be able to grind forever.
Hey! I was just wondering if you considered permanent based removal such as tithing blade and eaten by piranhas. I know they're not ideal interaction, but it could give the deck some added consistency and speed while maintaining some interaction. Not sure, was just a passing thought
The instant and sorceries don't contribute to the permanent count but they still synergise very well with Founding and Prankster. So it's definitely a fine line but the higher card quality seems worth it.
Did you consider running Virtue of Persistence instead of Portal? That way you don't have to run Cut Down and you could increase your permanent density.
Certainly an option, although it's not the as good to bring back as our other curve toppers and if we cast it it's stuck in exile. So the main advantage is being a permanent that contributes towards Descend if we happen to mill it. I still like the cheaper removal spells being instants so we can mostly play at instant speed and so we have more cards to find with the Prankster adventure. Portal removing three creatures is an important aspect of the card.
@@LegenVDThanks for the reply. Yeah I've been playing with Emergence since LCI launched and a three mana Virtue is very strong, but occasionally still not good enough since it doesn't impact the board until the next turn. I play Bo3 so Cut Down isn't as necessary. I think I'll try running both Virtue and Portal and see how it goes.
@@LegenVDI also really like Colossal Skyturtle. Both abilities are great in this type of deck and channel enables descend, an advantage over adventures. Using the regrowth to get Emergence, which gets Virtue, which reanimates the turtle is a very cool loop.
Damn... this deck is so brutal to play against. I thought after you played against the angel life gain deck that so far no one had even a chance to beat it. I think that red aggro could overrun and burn you fast enough before you do your thing, but with all the removal it will be not an easy task even for red aggro. In historic "Test of Talents" would be the bane for that deck, countering the emergence and then remove all copies from the deck.
Long time mtg player and fan of your channel. I recently played against a version of this deck that had Nissa, Chandra, Cruel Somnophage and at least 3 Abuelo's Awakenings, which I had never seen. Any thoughts on that card and/or including Planeswalkers? I'm going to synergize and try your version out. Great job and explanations as ever :)
I've been playing this with some minor edits (Jace, Perfected Mind and Shelly who transforms into the saga) and boy do people hate playing against it ❤
i would say that there isnt enough permanents in this deck, im personnally using deathcap marionette (deathtouch and mill for 2 mana) and souls of the lost (huge descent scaling)
The instant and sorceries don't contribute to the permanent count but they still synergise very well with Founding and Prankster. So it's definitely a fine line but the higher card quality seems worth it.
I absolutely hate playing against squirming emergence decks. It's a neat combo, but unless you're running counterspells or a lot of enchantment removal, you basically just sit there and watch them play with themselves for three turns then win. Completely miserable for ever non mono blue matchup.
Now I know why I keep seeing this deck specifically. Yet another netdeck. It does horribly against go wide token aggro. Against an esper flash deck I've been running recently too it's struggled horribly. Getting a tidebender on the portal won me a few games.
Duress and other discard effects for control instead of some of the removal spells. Can also switch up some of the finishers depending on how they line up in the matchup (e.g. Toxrill for tokens or Jin-Gitaxias for control). Path of Peril can also be another sweeper for aggro. Just make sure to keep a similiar permanent count after sideboard. Would never touch Founding or Prankster.

At 23:40, you could have destroyed your own Prankster so that the opponent has to leave you with Atraxa, finishing the game on the spot :)
Liliana lets them take out Atraxa afterward

Seems better than the other combo decks for Bo1.

Almost identical to mine, yay!
Usually people use invasion or Tolvda or cruelty of Gix for faster reanimating.
We can pretty reliably combo on turn 5 and sometimes even sooner!

On game 3 can't you just kill prankster so that wanderer ability will be forced to keep Atraxa alive then hit for lethal?
They can still -2 Liliana afterwards

Haven't faced it much, but it's probably close to 50/50. You either go off in time or you don't.
This deck reallllly goes off in Bo1. If you cant sniff out the gameplan of this deck early enough youre pretty screwed
