  • When inputting MIDI notes, the temptation to draw in notes or hit the quantise button is often too hard to resist. When things get a little too on-the-grid, instruments sound artificial and unrealistic. To keep things sound more natural, Logic Pro comes equipped with MIDI Humanize. This adds randomisations to the note placements for a more realistic performance.
    In this week's Logic Pro Tips video, Jono Buchanan shows you how to apply MIDI Humanize and explains why you may want to use it in certain situations. He will show you its effect on a cohesive piece and demonstrates the use of Time Handles, too.

    I'm trying to program 'Greensleeves' in 'Online Sequencer'. This is why I really needed this lesson and the explanation of what 'Legatomize' does! I mean - my Greensleeves is still rubbish... But now I understand a little about why.

    Thank you so much for writing time markers for the video's chapters. It gives me the ability to jump back and forth and compare very easily.

    Jono, I am very grateful that you make your knowledge available here and to learn from you. Your lessons are all very well prepared and have a clear thread running through the topic. You explain very comprehensively, precisely, thoroughly, and also provide the background in an understandable way. Brilliant. By the way, your English is super clear and understandable. Thank you, you are a great teacher! 👍

    I learn something new every time you release a new video - I had no idea time handles existed. But this is the thing about Logic Pro, you can work with it for years and years but every now and again you will still find something that you didn't it could do.
    Again, brilliant video. Excellent stuff.

    Time-handles! I've been wishing midi could do this for some time.... and now I find that it can.
    I'm very grateful to you.

    Always clear, succinct and well structured. You're one of the best for a Logic Pro x resource. If I had more than two thumbs, they would be up.

      @@MusicTechOfficial Hi Jono. Would love a tutorial video on manipulating audio files, especially editing them and changing chord structures (major/minor, etc)

    Awesome Jono, thanks! I've been a pro at this for a long time but still have never used Time handles. Either I'd need to see more practical examples for why I'd use it or perhaps it just doesn't connect with my brain as I'm more disposed to just program the new idea I'd want manually. Regardless, it's cool to see!

    Hi Jono! Nice work!!! Where can I find the full version of this music?

  • @lewisinkpress
    @lewisinkpress 3 года назад

    Again - I really like the slightly longer format!! I had just started using transform velocity, but now I know this too. I have to ask two questions: First, Jono, you didn't manually drag the Vln 1 up in the midi window but just did the +12 offset - any particular reason? Second - would you mind sharing which drum library that was -- I have been searching - on a previous comment I asked about a piano library, but I can't find the question or a comment... :-). Thanks in advance sir!

    Guidance on where/when in the development of a piece one should humanise. To me it seems to be something one does as a finishing process. Might humanising too early restrict use of other techniques forcing one to quantise, add a process and re-humanize?

    • @MusicTechOfficial
      @MusicTechOfficial  3 года назад

      What restrictions of other techniques do you mean? We think it's best to just feel it out as a project develops. It's hard to say when exactly you might want to do this. But we will say, the humanize function might also change how you work with other elements of a track/groove and the overall "feel" as you create, in a positive way also... Let us know your thoughts and how you get on.

    It would be nice if, somewhere n the video or description, you could always let us know which version of Logic is used (for us poor who can't upgrade our macs and therefore Logic)

      If you check the full playlist you can see when we switched to the latest version of logic in the preview video. We're currently on the latest version 10.5
