Darkwood is a challenging survival horror that does not rely on jump scares.
Craft weapons, prepare traps, fortify hideouts - you will explore and scavenge the eerie forests of the Soviet Bloc by day, then hunker down in your hideout at night. With nightmarish forces corrupting the woods, wait and pray for the sun to come up the next morning.
Wade through the grueling, bizarre world of Darkwood and delve into the creepiest secrets of its inhabitants to escape the infested land before it destroys your body and consumes your mind.

This game deserves everything. To me, it is one of the best video game horror experiences that has ever been created, right next to Silent Hill 2. I bought it on steam, and now I bought it on my console. If there was any physical release or merchandise, I would also get it... FUC%@NG MASTERPIECE. Respect the woods brothers.
I just bought the game bro & It does live up to the hype, & everything creepy & scared said about it. Totally worth it, don't miss out on it.
Try Pathologic 2 similar story telling and even shares a bit of theme; they’re both Russian.

This game is definitely a hidden gem, when I saw it for the 1st time it left a impression on me. Ever since then I've checked back in on the game every now & then. Now that it's come to PS4, I bought it the moment I could & so far the experience really is everything I expected, if not more.
This is truly a fantastic and scary horror game. I never tought I will be scared playing 2D game ever..
Im on my 8th playthrough and those goddamned banshees still scare the shit out of me when they scream at me. For some reason i always think of Billy Madison saying "Stop looking at me Swan!" when those things come around.
As someone who finished the game, I can say that this represents the game well without spoiling anythig, including some of the most disturbing moments. Glad to see that there are still companies out there who know how to advertise without giving literally everything away (or using footage that doesn't make to release version)

This is the best survival horror game of all time. Sad that it's so underrated, it would have been a classic to so many people. Definitely made my top 10 favourite of all time.

nudelkrigare you can’t say that when that’s the only way to “rent” a game before buying. Most games I pirate I buy later, also the devs of this game gave out a pirated version themselves saying try before you buy. So when you know nothing about the topic, please don’t comment.

This game is fucking scary, and legitimately scary. Content, lore and difficulty make it all the worth while to play.

After playing this game for about the fourth time, I want to bed and I had a strange dream about playing the sequel. It takes place after the false ending, the forest has expanded and it became more corrupt. I remember having the protagonist cross crop fealds that would form into agonized or misshapen faces in some places. The trees were more prevalent and veined all over the map. I remember a place where there was another village, but the houses were mashed and pushed together into a labyrinth of roads and rooms. But what made it so rememberable to me was how, in my nightmare about a videogame, the very concept of the sequel was it being the nightmare of a dying man trying to wake up.
that actually sounds interesting and plausible as a sequel, although I would like them to explore things outside of the forest.

First night surviving in the swamp was thanks to a huge war outside my hideout between what sounded like a tribe of savages, a pack of huge dogs, and a swarm of human spiders though out the whole night I was hiding in a corner with only two bullets left in my shot gun and a broken axe and I heard every scream, howl, cry, smack, bite, and screech though the WHOLE NIGHT near the end I looked outside to find a battle field with only a half dead dog left standing which I killed I then looted the corpses as the sun was coming up, I then made sure the Three would never starve with all the meat I gave them.

One of THE best games ever made. I am currently on my second playthrough. The art, story, music and atmosphere is AMAZING.. Could not even begin to explain how incredible this game is. I truly don't understand how this game isn't being talked about everywhere.

This game, my lord! What can I say? What can I think of that game? It's atmosphere? Its marvelous music and sounds? That trailer that I saw with different scenes? The gameplay? The story? The game is by far the best horror game for me.The first time I played I wanted to be scared by its eerie sounds. As a person said WE NEED A DLC. Much love acidwizardstudio.
You know a games atmosphere is on point when the certain sounds you hear in game make you question if they're actually there or not. Everything they did imo is straight up brilliant

I had an email correspondence with the developers a while ago, and I was wondering if y'all were still planning on patching the gasoline pouring SFX during the swamp chapter of the game? I replayed recently and the bug seemed like it's as prevalent as ever.
