Hi! As a former teacher, one of the pieces of advice I always told parents was to try to avoid mentioning the issue theyre having with their child, in front of them. It can actually encourage it. I would recommend you begin to praise her as an “good eater” to others and make sure she is nearby to hear it. For example, maybe on a call or FaceTime with your parents where Riley can feel you are proud of her for being a “good eater”. Kids will live up to what we tell them they are! Good and bad. Always.
Not a mom but a long time babysitter. My trick for picky toddlers was always to really sit down with them and eat at the same time. As close to the "grown up" table as possible And the same stuff in the same way it is found on their plate. Idk if this would work with Riley you know your daughter best but maybe worth a try.
I see that you already have a ton of good advice. To sum it up: eat together, same thing, same table (Riley is old enough), at the same time. No screen time. Also, for the meat, it works with ketchup for us, or any other sauce he likes.
I don’t know if you have Jackson eating meat yet or not but maybe if he is, you could try feeding them both the exact same meal and kind of show Riley that Jackson eats it so she can too? Or tell her she’s teaching Jackson how to eat big kid foods? I’m just making things up to try and help but it might be worth a try! Good luck!
Yes my 3 year old son won’t try new things often but if my 13 month old eats something he will say oh bubby likes it to and try it and eat it most times 💕 great tip
Little Jackson going to be a wonderful big boy in future. He got all those signs this early. & Rylie is our diva. This girl got so much life, energy & she is super smart. Love you all....❤❤
One of my subscribers suggested I should watch your channel and now I know why she told me to. You are "real" and don't try to present life as if it is lived upon a cloud. I love that.❤️ I have a daughter who is 18 m.o. and a son who is 5 m.o. and I can fully relate with your everyday life and the struggles of feeding a toddler who seems to prefer certain things over others. My daughter still prefers food to be mashed instead of textures, yet she will devour a plain slice of toasted bread or a cracker. I want to hope that she will be more adventurous as we progress with her brother's weaning (I'm starting him on purees in a couple of weeks), especially because during Christmas she was eating boiled sprouts and had a small portion of roasted turkey, potatoes and carrots but now doesn't want to even try them again. You will be hearing more of me (that sounded like a threat, I swear it isn't!😅) as I binge-watch some of your videos during their naps. Toodles for now!😘
I love these kinds of videos because it's so nice to see you and your family be so real. It's been a struggle to get my 19 month old daughter to eat anything. We spoke to a nutritionist for toddlers and kids, they mentioned limit snacks throughout the day and to try putting 1 new thing on the plate to see if they will try it. So far she's getting better but it's still a mission. Anyways thank you for being you and I love your channel! 💗
My son has been doing the same thing as Riley and what has been working for us (most of the time) is we actually cut out a.l snacks between meals. We noticed he was loading up on crackers etc in between meals and when it came time to eat he refused everything but fruit. He has been doing so much better now and is hungry by the time his meal comes. He has also started trying some new things and eating protein here and there. I know it is so hard ugh!
Try rice and lentil soup Soak rice and red lentil for 30 minutes Quarter cup of both and soak them. Boil them with water and try it if you like because lentils got protein in them. You can try chickpeas and rice boiled and mashed.
I been watching your videos since I was pregnant and now my baby is 5 months and we just started purée and she hates my food! She loves the gerber baby food sucks!! I love your videos so much out of all the RUclips videos I watch you are the most honest and most real and it’s sooo nice to see how it actually looks and how it actually feels of being a mom All the other videos are so fake and so edited they make their life seem so perfect and they pretend to be so happy we all know that not even possible I love your honesty it have made me a better person a better mom all your tips and everything I am so grateful for your videos please don’t stop I’m 22 and I have a 5 month girl we have some good days and some days are just so bad I’m not in the mood and I hate every bit of it but deep down I truly do love it it’s just can be stressful P.s my mom told me that as a baby I hated food and that she would have to spice it up with sugar and butter maybe that might work ? I was so skinny but doctor always said I was fine even though I never ate and it got to the point that my mom got me some pediature (ensure) anyway I’m an adult now and I’m perfectly healthy so don’t worry too much about Riley she is a angel god bless -grace
I think you're an absolutely incredible mama! I wonder if Riley would like family style, where they serve themselves (obviously you pick the options that are all in separate serving dishes-pain in the butt I know) and then be really chill about it..like you don't care whether she eats or not. Talk about other things. Love and logic is really awesome too: "you don't have to like it..that's ok. Maybe you'll like the next meal better" Side note: my pediatrician told me that there are really only 2 things that kids feel fully in control of- what they put in their mouth and potty habits. So any little ridiculous decision you can give her control of throughout the day, can make her feel really content and in control.
Toddlers are so hard to please in terms of food. My daughter who was a fantastic eater as an infant, is now a nightmare every meal time🤦 The struggle is real...
Hack to peel sweet potato easier is to do it after the water boiled and it makes it so much easier. I’m always boiling them for sweet potato pancakes for my daughter. You’re one of my fav mom you tubers.💕
Meal times with toddlers can be so hard. My daughter started refusimg to eat anything but fruit after she turned 2. It was such a struggle for a couple years but now she's 6 and she has gotten better at trying different foods and eating more foods. If bribing her works, then keep on doing that!!!! It will get better as she gets a little older
Does Riley like smoothies? I make my toddler smoothie with 2% milk, spinach, half a banana, 2 majdool dates, frozen smoothie mix or berries and almond butter. I drink my smoothie too when I give her hers. Try giving in open cup/glass where she can see it and use a cute straw. Maybe she likes it and you’ll be satisfied as it basically has everything.
I got so happy when I saw the notification for your video. I Had a rough night and I’m so tired but your vlogs always cheer me up. God bless your family 💕
Hi, my toddler doesn't eat chicken, but I buy the rotisserie chicken cut it really small and make bow tie chicken alfredo, he loves it. Also, I give him ground beef mixed with rice, and salmon covered in avocado since he loves it. I also make chicken soup with small pieces of chicken and add some rice to it. My son also loves fried egg with rice. Remember, this could be a stage, its fine for now if she doesn't eat certain things. xoxo
I would like to see your (or your kids) favourite recipes from those books. It’s great to see you’re finally able to get progress in Riley’s food exploration! And yes, it’s always entertaining to watch babies devour food 😁
Do you follow kids eat in color on IG? She had a picky eaters course as well - fairly similar to feeding littles but really focused on pickiness. She keeps language super neutral about food. One suggestion I’d have is to not focus on what Riley will & won’t eat or talk about her pickiness. Riley is so freaking smart & she’s definitely taking all that in. Like, mom says I’m not going to eat it or I won’t like it so I’m not going to. Best of luck!
Yes cheeky little kids. They understand things that we talk about. We should not talk about their pickiness and keep our attitude neutral towards food. Riley seems like a cheeky set on her way kid so she likes doing the opposites and being high maintenance. The more we wish and seem desperate for them to eat, they will play the princess and not eat even more
Ohh my I can feel u girl my 8 years old daughter she was sooo picky eater that i gave up all tactics now finally she eats egg at the age of 8 and bits of chicken
Maybe try not bribing her and just give her what you serve. If she doesn’t eat it, then save it for her next meal time. Eventually she will get that she has to eat it otherwise she will be hungry. I used to give my 2 year old son other options up to 3 different meals if he was being picky. I completely stopped that. He will eat when he’s hungry. I don’t force him to eat if he doesn’t want too. They come around trust me. Yes he gets snacks throughout the day but his meals are consistent and he eats what I serve. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t eat anything. I know, sounds harsh but sometimes you need to be so they know they can’t always get their way with mommy.
choo snau it really is as simple as that. I know as moms, we feel the guilt of “my kid hasn’t eaten anything... I’ll just give in and give them a snack or something they will eat” however this is setting them up to be even more of a picky eater. I’m sure our parents did the same with just giving us one option for meals. We need to understand that they will not starve if they skip a meal. If she doesn’t eat anything for lunch, she will be extra hungry for dinner. However, if she still refuses.. they go to bed on an empty stomach. Obviously not completely empty because you can offer fruits and veggies. If they don’t eat the food we offer them, then sorry we can try again tomorrow.
I’m not sure if it’ll help but just throwing out a suggestion, maybe blending the oats down to be a little finer would maybe help with the texture issue? Either way I love watching these kinds of videos! :D
Not sure how you feel about it, but my son dips EVERYTHING! Especially meat. So I give him a little BBQ sauce, ranch, or ketchup and he is a happy camper and will eat it. Just a suggestion 🤷♀️ it may not work, but worth a shot.
If you're looking for sweet potato/root veggie/plantain chips made without industrial seed oils, I recommend the brand Terra. They have some that use coconut and avocado oil. :)
My daughter is fairly picky with her meat protein too. So we tend to get her protein in other ways. Nuts being her favorite. They’re packed with protein and are fun to eat. (Always supervised) Peanut butter, milk, cheese all have a decent amount of protein that we tend to forget about. Like you said, she’s fed. She’s not starving. We tend to associate protein with meat alone but she loooks to be getting at least some from her milk and peanut butter! Don’t stress mama!
For veggies you can try making her fruit smoothies, that is what I have started doing for Nathan. I will mix spinach in with some yogurt and his milk at night and a banana and maybe a strawberry and give him his "dessert" after dinner. With the chicken maybe try and give her something to dip it in to make it more fun? We have also done that and it gets him to eat his chicken or steak. Good luck!
I know you’ve probably tried all these things.. my suggestions are what about different dips for the chicken like ketchup or ranch? What about a smoothie with kids protein powder?
I think you’re doing a great job with both of the kiddos. Lots of you tubers wouldn’t admit they have to do a bit of bribing to get their kids to eat so at least you’re honest. Less snacks will keep though as Riley is more likely to show interest in food if she actually feels a bit hungry xx
I relate so much with this and the bribery for my 2 1/2 year old son 😂😂 He usually eats very very good but lately he has been a challenge. I appreciate your honesty!
When I was little we either ate what my mom made or we didn’t eat at all 🤷🏻♀️ Shes old enough to know she needs to eat or she won’t feel well. She’s got you wrapped around her finger right now because she knows you’ll give in and give her something else. If she doesn’t eat it simply dismiss her from the table. She’ll be back when her tummy starts growling.
I honestly wouldn't worry about her not eating meat. There are many ways to introduce protein into a child's diet which you already do. There's legumes, grains, dairy, tofu, and other foods that are good sources of protein. I would focus more on getting her to eat veggies (due to vitamins and minerals) and maybe complex carbs (I think she already eats some). My son's (he's 24 months) pediatrician never worries about low meat intake. He says many children don't tend to find interest in meat until around age 4 if that. He always stresses a variety of foods including veggies. You guys are doing great, just keep exposing her to food and she will eat them eventually. Maybe an option is to altogether stop the foods she is used to eating and just allow her to eat the same stuff as you do but don't force her. If she doesn't eat anything then try again later instead of a snack. Also don't substitute whatever she didn't eat with something different. I know it's hard, and we think as parents that our kids will starve but it's not the case. Eventually she will eat some of the food but it might take time so be very patient. Just present the same foods in different ways, and cook them in different way and different spices.
Have you tried dying eggs/noodles with food coloring of Riley's choice to make it fun? Or letting her help cook something new to make her more interested like a smoothie/ banana bread/ colored pasta?
Kayla I love how much you’re doing for Riley’s food journey but have you ever looked into vegetarian kids meals? Some kids just don’t like meats when they are young or ever. Maybe try finding vegan or vegetarian sources of protein. Peas also have protein. So does broccoli 🥦 and chia seeds so that could be something to try. I love you guys. We just woke up with my 6month old baby girl and she loves watching baby Jackson and Riley! 🥰
If your kid love chips , u can make it at home with any vegetable , u just need to cut it really thin add drizzle of olive oil, salt ( fresh grated Parmesan cheese optional ) and toast it in air fryer . I think she will like them or when u do carrot soups add fresh orange juice to them so they test sweet at least that's how some of my nephews and nieces eat their foods ☺️☺️ If she kept denying it and screaming , there is always the other method . No other food until she eats what u put in front of her which is very hard but u do what I think good for them 😉
Hello how are you ? My daughter is stubborn especially she don't eat to meal. I have been watching yourself vlog and I learned a lot thing. I'm from Uzbekistan. And I live in USA.I know little english languages.
For meat have you tried serving with sauce like ketchup or honey mustard if she likes sweet things, or maybe some sausages or deli meats? Not the healthiest but maybe it’ll be a start. What about protein powder in some smoothies?
Please continue making these kind of videos. My daughter is 5 months old and having solids, so I find it quite informative. BTW hope you cleaned the avocado knife after using it😁
Solid Starts on IG does stories with her children, one of which is a very picky eater. She documents his food refusals and how she handles it in her Stories
Hi kayla i LOVE to watch your viedos. And i want to know how you teach Jackson sit up becuse i have also 7 months old baby boy but he can't able to sit.love from italy
I saw a show many years ago and they had the picky eater kiss the food. So strange, but it stuck with me! I know the show was out of the UK and I _think_ it was called house of tiny tearaways.
It must not be easy to record and take care of your little ones at the same time, I really appreciate it. I'm drained at the end of the day with one toddler lol
My son is the same age as Riley. He was never picky until he hit 2yrs and 6 months old. HE WONT EAT ANYTHING. So I feel your pain. Yesterday he ate two hard boiled eggs which was a relief. Besides that he will only eat fruit and snack type foods. He does like sweet potato chips. But yea, we are working on his picky eating too. And we did baby led weaning with him. So don’t feel like it’s your fault how you started Riley on purées.
.Would Riley eat a grilled cheese sandwich cut up? Toasted bagel etc with cream cheese? What about macaroni and cheese the curly kind- I can give u a recipe to make home made if interested? Both kids could eat macaroni and cheese.........
Hi, Jackson is a great eater. Do you give him milk/formula before you give him solids if yes how long before you give him solids? My son eats some days and some others doesnt even touch his food
I follow some awesome toddler/baby food expert accounts on Instagram and they suggest describing how the food is with words like sticky and soft and fluffy and crunchy instead of tasty or yummy. Cutting food in shapes and using food picks seemed to be recommended too. Having broccoli be little trees and pretending to be a dinosaur might work for Riley too
I love when Joe took the camera lol. Little man is a really good eater. I wish I would have done that with my youngest. He is such a picky eater so I can't sort of relate with you when it comes to trying to get them to eat.
I love youre videos❤. My good the struggle you have to make Riley eat. How can she survive on so little food! My granddaughter is the same age as her and she eats the same food that her parents eat. Breakfast a full bowl of oatmeal and a sandwish with cheese. Lunch 3 fishfingers and 1-2 potatoes and weggies. Dinner meatballs with mashed potatoes. A 3 yere old should eat aproximatley 1200 calories a day to grow and develope. This must be so hard for you💕
My two and a half year old loves Daniel Tiger and when she doesn’t want to try a food we sing the “try new food and it might taste good” song that Daniel sings and she loves that and it usually makes her try it. But she usually isn’t a picky eater so that’s probably not helpful 😬
Probably you have already done it, but have you considered offering vegetarian protein besides peanuts and almond? Something like lentils, beans, chickpeas ? You can make pancakes with those ingredients. Although probably you are trying not to hide it but that she consciously eats other kinds of food, but just a thought.
I also ordered a lead weaning book you showed us a few videos ago :) SO excited to try it. My 2.5 year old son is picky and was only fed certain jarred baby food so trying more options with my daughter :)
First let me say i love your chanel. I have a 6 month old baby and your videos made me feel like i'm not alone on the struggle bus. I have a little advice for Rileys eating. I'm a kindergarden teacher and i see kids that eat like her all the time. As soon as you put food they don't know in front of them they lose it. The mistake I see a lot of parents do is to give a kid anything as long as they will eat. We have a rule, you have to try everything but you don't have to eat it if you don't like it. We don't comment how much or how little they ate, bribe them or punish them. You offer and they choose. It works amazing. You will throw a lot of food away but eventually they start eating. Maybe give it a try.
We are on the same struggle with my almost 2 year old. The only thing meat wise she will eat is fish sticks.... not good to me but... i consider it a win haha
I am a believer that as long as they are eating! But just as an encouragement my son would not touch meat for years now at 7 he is eating pork chops, bacon etc! It does end ;)

Ha! Joe cleaning the coffee filter. So funny
We had to start giving my niece “milkshakes” which is protein powder shakes after dinner. We did check with her pediatrician prior.
Hack to peel sweet potato easier is to do it after the water boiled and it makes it so much easier. I’m always boiling them for sweet potato pancakes for my daughter. You’re one of my fav mom you tubers.💕

Try grinding up the oats for the muffins! Also try smoothies to get more fruits & veggies in. You can ground flaxseeds and oats to the smoothie.

I know you’ve probably tried all these things.. my suggestions are what about different dips for the chicken like ketchup or ranch? What about a smoothie with kids protein powder?
Riley and Jackson are precious!💞 Will you please share the muffin recipe for the muffins you made them?
Hiii! Does she like beans? Maybe you can make little patties out if lentils or black beans?
Love these videos especially with Jackson’s meals I currently have a 7 month old trying to figure out what to give him for meals
Great vlog!!! I just love how Jackson eats!!!! And Riley is doing so good!! Yay... good job!! Keep on going 👍🏼 take care be safe ♥️
I look forward to all your vlogs!!! 👏🏽🙌🏽
Omg Kayla baby Jackson is getting so big! Big cutie pie!!!
For protein ground turkey or ground chicken is good too! You could make meatballs.
Maybe try and throw the rolled oats in a good processor to bring them a bit finer for those muffins. Just an idea!
This is my favorite channel 😊
Well done Riley !!
you guys are my favourite youtube family!
Love this video Kayla!
You ARE an AMAZING mom💕💕💕
Have you tried dying eggs/noodles with food coloring of Riley's choice to make it fun? Or letting her help cook something new to make her more interested like a smoothie/ banana bread/ colored pasta?
Make sure when you’re eating chia seeds. You soak them before eating them because they can be really hard to digest on the stomach
I think she will like them or when u do carrot soups add fresh orange juice to them so they test sweet at least that's how some of my nephews and nieces eat their foods ☺️☺️
If she kept denying it and screaming , there is always the other method .
Kayla you will do soup and rice soup for daughter and pasta meal.
BTW hope you cleaned the avocado knife after using it😁
My daughter loves cooked chicken in chicken soup. But i serve it seperately on a plate than the soup.
And beans have protein as well.
I love how well Jackson eats! Hoping my almost 6 month old is like that
Solid Starts on IG does stories with her children, one of which is a very picky eater. She documents his food refusals and how she handles it in her Stories
Hi kayla i LOVE to watch your viedos. And i want to know how you teach Jackson sit up becuse i have also 7 months old baby boy but he can't able to sit.love from italy
She gave some advice on sitting up in I think his 7 month update vid. I hope this helps!
I saw a show many years ago and they had the picky eater kiss the food. So strange, but it stuck with me! I know the show was out of the UK and I _think_ it was called house of tiny tearaways.
Any of y'all work for Yeti to hook this girl up with a sponsorship? 😂
It must not be easy to record and take care of your little ones at the same time, I really appreciate it. I'm drained at the end of the day with one toddler lol
I love seeing these type videos. Gives me ideas for grandkids.
They look so cute side by side in there high chairs
Joe’s big old square sandwich 😂😂
Have you tried giving chicken with dipping sauce? Ketchup or ranch?
Your skin looks great in this video!
I have a 3-year-old daughter and yes... I keep bribing her all the time so don't feel guilty❤️
I follow some awesome toddler/baby food expert accounts on Instagram and they suggest describing how the food is with words like sticky and soft and fluffy and crunchy instead of tasty or yummy. Cutting food in shapes and using food picks seemed to be recommended too. Having broccoli be little trees and pretending to be a dinosaur might work for Riley too
I'm so glad that Riley is eating her chicken and broccoli.
Good job mama I had to do that with my toddler for so long and know he eats everything.
Look at Riley slammin that chicken!! Woot woop!!
My 6.5 months old baby barerly eats like 4 spoons of solids and like 3 bottle of milk! ITS AN EVERYDAY STRUGGLE😊
Do more of what you’re kids eat I miss them
I love when Joe took the camera lol. Little man is a really good eater. I wish I would have done that with my youngest. He is such a picky eater so I can't sort of relate with you when it comes to trying to get them to eat.
Omg the little girls tantrum is hilarious 😂 btw my 1 year old doesn’t really like chicken either but loves salmon fish ect baked in the oven
Love this video you should do it more often !! I have a 4 year old and a 6 months old baby
This must be so hard for you💕
Sis..❤ vedio ...can u do a vedio ..how u clean your food stuff n other things u bring from shop...during this pandemic ....thnks💖💖💖
i wish i was a toddler
My two and a half year old loves Daniel Tiger and when she doesn’t want to try a food we sing the “try new food and it might taste good” song that Daniel sings and she loves that and it usually makes her try it. But she usually isn’t a picky eater so that’s probably not helpful 😬
Love seeing these :) please do more ❤️
Have you tried ketchup with chicken? There’s a no sugar added version 😬 Also do you give Riley cheese?
Probably you have already done it, but have you considered offering vegetarian protein besides peanuts and almond? Something like lentils, beans, chickpeas ? You can make pancakes with those ingredients. Although probably you are trying not to hide it but that she consciously eats other kinds of food, but just a thought.
Are you able to link on Instagram, the grey gown type outfit you had on in the morning? Jackson is so adorable
Do more of what they eat in a day together and seperatly
Hahaha 😂 Joe had to make his move!!!
I am a believer that as long as they are eating! But just as an encouragement my son would not touch meat for years now at 7 he is eating pork chops, bacon etc! It does end ;)
