I've thought about how you could do what Star Citizen does and handcraft the star systems that are important/inhabited, which might range in the dozens or hundreds, but then the rest of the billions that are just empty/used for resource gathering only could be procedurally generated. Then have the gameplay itself be totally open world and maybe similar to Skyrim like where you can do whatever you want, be whoever you want and join whatever organization you want. you can choose what attributes at the beginning of the game to have like force sensitive or better with blasters. Imagine that with modern day graphics and VR... I'd set it during the Old Republic Era so lots of people can join the Sith and it would still make sense.
you really want to make your head spin make a scale map of the galaxy. Take a quarter and put it on the ground. That represents our solar system. Now for the rest of the galaxy you need...The continent of North America
Is there a reason why the "western" (for lack of a better description) was largely unexplored? Was there something preventing space-travel in that area?
Unmapped stars, celetstial bodies, difficult to jump to hyperspace without proper navigation charts. Also why hasn't the earths oceans been fully explored? Difficult, limited need to etc it's the same thing. Not plot holes
+Star Wars Minute so is it also correct that they cant leave the "star wars galaxy" because the Hyperdrive cant travel through intergalactic space? Btw can you make a video about the Hyperdrive, by who and when invented en how spacetravel works in the star wars milky way!? Tnx
"The galaxy was thought not to extend beyond this" How can they not see the size of the galaxy? We can measure that, and we haven't even traveled to another system yet.
tifforo1 Just like we once thought the earth was the center of the universe and the sun revolved around us, they were ignorant of the size of the galaxy. Mostly because hyperspace travel had to go through layers of innovations and the charts hadn't been mapped yet. Imagine Columbus charting the West Indies for European countries.
What if... a small planet, one with an ecosystem that appeared to be as if someone took some of the planets in the galaxy and mashed them together, then placed the planet in unknown space... that planet could be... Earth...
Some Random Guy sure we estimate, but we know the general size and shape. This can all be done with relatively primitive technology. Shit we can literally see the shape of the galaxy with the naked eye and telescopes. Whoever wrote that bit of lore made a big mistake.
Uh, look at all the untapped wealth of possible stories and characters and histories. Yet Disney keeps wanting to rehash the 'Skwyalker Saga' and things relating to the original trilogy. I get that they have a special place in many peoples hearts but there is so mch out there to write on and make films about. I really hope they choose to branch out and have different movie types on different characters, or commision more novels so we can explore this amazing galaxy.
+Daniel Charland I know right, I remember seeing a trailer for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic called "deceived". It looked incredible and IMHO would make for an amazing movie. Also movies on the Mandalorian Wars would be epic. Soo much wasted potential. And yet they go and remake A new Hope in The force awakens.
+Jav Tiss That was for The Old Republic, not Kotor. And Disney has plans to expand, but the original trilogy era and sequel trilogy era is the focus right now. They have to get those out of the way first.
I don't see how it makes much sense that the entire galaxy isn't explored. It seems like you can get anywhere in the galaxy in a matter of days. The emperor was able to get from Courscant to Mustafar between the time Anakin got his limbs cut off and before he died, and there's no way he could have survived more than a day with those kinds of injuries. So if it takes a day to get fromm the core to the outer rim, how could the entire galaxy not be explored.
Besides the already detailed answer, hyperspace routes were discovered by trial and error. And not many were willing to randomly click "Go" on their hyperdrives if that meant the possibility of crashing into a star or ending in the middle of nowhere and no possibility of going back.
WhatTheHeck Yes, they pointed this out in Rebels, in the way Hera hated the force sensitive whale things, mentioning how they "cause a lot of accidents"
nice explanation but sometimes what they do in the movies or shows seems to contradict that as they seem to jump at anytime. I feel like Pablo Hidalgo needs to write down how Hyperspace and travel works
CoolBeachDude I would think she has roughly the same connection as Luke. She just hadn’t learned to tap into it like Luke. Also maybe she’s stronger since she actually favors anakin while Luke acts more like padme

Thank you so much. Now I won't be so confused as to how far away the planets are located from another, and terms like the outer rim will actually have meaning to me! This helps me to understand the layout of Star Wars a lot more.

Tatooine is relatively close to Naboo. It was also mentioned to be the only nearby world where the Trade Federation didn't have influence. It is actually noticable in the video that the Trade Federation is based in the Inner Rim, directly in between Naboo and Coruscant.
2:03 I’m pretty sure the Mandalorian S2 retconned Tanaab to be pronounced “tay nab.” It’s the planet where Mayfeld claimed Brown Eyes’ vessel lost pressure.
+Sir Snaxalot Snoke is Sauron the Dark Lord, He dwell in Unknown Regins always, Unknown Regins is the true source of the Dark Side and evil, Unknown Regins is Mordor, Core Worlds Regins is Gondor, other regins is other realm in middle earth. XD
For those of you who don't now if Earth is in Star Wars, it is, but it's almost 300 million light years away from the Star Wars Galaxy. This could mean that the events of Star Wars take place within the Andromeda Galaxy, a real galaxy in our universe. Han and Chewie have been stranded on Earth once, somewhere in the North Pacific.
That story was non-canon, but I like to think of it as something that COULD have happened. Maybe it even is canon for Indiana Jones, who knows? Also, a Senator Grebleips ("Spielberg" spelled backwards) before the Clone Wars sent an expedition to another galaxy that was heavily implied to be the origin of E.T.: The Extraterrestrial. It was just a silly little Easter egg, but we can imagine...
Hey, I think it would be really cool if you could cover specific planets, maybe in a new series. You could talk about the local populations, vegetation, terrain, history, location, or what ever info is available in either Cannon or Legend/EU. Some interesting topics could be Kashyyyk, Coruscant, Geonosis, Besbin, Dagobah, pretty much any planet would be sweet
Does anyone find it curious that the star wars galaxy looks exactly like the milky way, and the "unknown regions" align precisely where earth would be located if it were the same galaxy?
LittleComet, are you stupid? Spiral Galaxies are extremely common in the universe, and where is the Orion Arm in that galactic map? That galaxy has like 11-12 arms! Ours has (I think) 7.
0:28 Isn't 'Wild Space' the term used to designate the largely unexplored space in the galaxy? Whereas the 'Unknown Regions' is the vast area to the west of the galactic disc, which hasn't been colonized or properly mapped out due to navigational hazards, but is generally believed to contain various civilizations, such as the Chiss. And then there's also this: "Pablo Hidalgo explained in Rebels Recon that the borders of the Unknown Regions were known (thus should be visible on the map of the Galaxy) but what were within the regions were unknown. Contrast this with Wild Space, which were outside the known map of the Galaxy (in other words, 'off the edge of the map').[4]" I don't mean to be nitpicky, but I think you got that part wrong.
I still love the Unknown regions as it gives content creators as my self to work our magic. I have so far been working on two factions in the Unknown Regions one a single planet known as Nun a sea planet where the Nuni a race of celestial fish as i have to call them live and have a Celtic-ish culture and religion. And a mini(in Galatic therms) Empire known as the Ralms of the Black Star. A empire that spread both a Culture and Religion witch made them Indipendent from rest of the Galaxy so they dint do mutch until they ran into the Firsht order who tried to occupy one of their planets only to learn that it was a Holy Planet so they got the Consta Ordo Militia and Knights up their asses. Basicly see a Teutonic knight in full plate armor then replace the armor with Power armor and their weapon with a Energy sword and a shield made out of metal that could take a hit from a blaster canon. For weapons both dint use blasters but Energy projectiles that made their firearms mutch more fears and deadly
Do we have a map of the new canon SW universe? I know we got one in a magazine leading up to TFA but I think it left out a whole bunch of canon planets.
I personally would love to see a video on the history of Naboo especially what happened after Revenge of the Sith. Histories of other planets as well would be awesome!!!
Great video (as always), but I have one question considering the map provided in this (an some other) video(s): Since Thrawn came fromthe "Chriss Ascendancy" to the empire. Why was it assumped (by Palpatine?), that he has knowledge of the "Unknown Regions", when the Chiss Ascendancy was outside of said region? Did Thrawn take a reroute via these regions until he joined the Empire?
Great video! I was curious if you were going to mention that Illum on the Legends map is labeled Starkiller Base in the canon map in the TFA visual dictionary. Both are at the same exact spot...
One of the two settle galaxies is called the Ressi maze with two major races who have sparse contact the with they galaxy at large. The Yuuzhan Vong come from another Galaxy which they rendered inhabitable via a war. Given the distance between Galaxies and the dark matter induced anomalies in hyperspace travel outside the Galaxy is dangerous and knowledge about it is at best even more unknown then the unknown regions
There is believed to be some sort of "shield" or some force field encircling the entire Galaxy, and is beyond the Unknown Regions. This prevents anyone from exiting the Galaxy. The Yuuzhan Vong managed to enter because they found a hole in the force field, which allowed them to enter the Galaxy. This might be the only entrance and exit to the Galaxy.
I honestly don't know anything about this, but is there a creation story and an end of the world story / prophecy to Star Wars? Or God thing to the Force?
I guess it depends on the different cultures in the Starwars universe. In terms of prophecies, Anakin Skywalker was, as I'm sure you know, the chosen one, and the prophecy claimed that he would bring balance to the force and destroy the Sith.
+Bob Freking in TCW there's an arc about the planet Mortis, where the force is "home." The 3 people who live there are the son, the daughter, and the father. The son represents the dark side, and the daughter represents the light side, and the father is there to basically keep them out of trouble, because if one of them becomes dominant over the other it could potentially end the universe. When the son kills the daughter, they have to kill the son to balance it out. that's all I know
+theYoungNation They came from outside The Galaxy. The "Vector Prime" invasion location was at the top center of the map, however. (L1/2/3 grid coords), near Helska.
I wonder why the Unknown Regions were so unexplored. It looks like half of the galaxy was never fully explored, but the right was. Was it because of the Chiss?
Ok so I've been a huge fan of the Star Wars movies my whole life, but what other canon is good to start with to learn more about the Star Wars universe?
Been waiting for this video, great explanation, Didn't know Naboo facing mid rim issue as you explained. If only i can print out or buy this map and hang it on my bed room :) that will be awesome. in SW ep 1 trade federation blocking Naboo trade route, it will be awesome if you make a video about trade route
So Jakku is in the Western Region, which is in the unknown region. Interesting. Also if Earth was in the Star Wars it would be in the Outer Rim of the Unknown Region, which is interesting to think about
I love this! We as a scpieces have long being imagining how it would be if countless amounts of stars inside our own Galaxy had their own little civilisation - and how it would be for us to be part of such a Galaxy timing with life and ofcourse... Wars... So we would develop a Map like this one but what's striking is, that these maps over thousands of years would change... Cuz the Galaxy as a whole is changing constantly, Star move about in their respective orbits, and also further away stars move much faster from closer stars, so imagine having to figure out what is going on in a world like this!
Hello, could you be able to tell us something about Togrutas homeworld on planet Shili? I found few articles, but still not that much i like to know. Thank you.
Kamino is located above the galactic disk, outside the main galaxy and to the "south" of the dwarf satellite galaxy called the Rishi Maze. It's considered to be in Wild Space, because its location is charted but it isn't officially claimed by the Empire.
Kamino is at the way edge of the galactic disk. As to where it is located. It is way far off on the east, southeast side of galaxy. I know it is relatively close to the planets Rothana and Shola.
Do you guys think that there may be earth somewhere out there in the unknown region? And it would be sick if along the World Between Worlds there were other universes in SW.
is geography is the correct term, considering it isn't consisted of only 'geo' but an entire galaxy? maybe Chorography would be correct... same greek origin, just a thought
Thanks for this video! Star Wars geography is very interesting to me, and also very confusing seeing as many sources (such as various video games) have conflicting information :P
I've spent so many hours just looking at these star wars galaxy maps and the galaxy maps during war time....I'm such a nerd. Great video as always!
+Fact Free I admire you for this! Maybe I will start doing that too!

With so many distinct worlds in the SW canon, a map is indispensable. Very helpful video.

But where is Middle Earth in all this?
In another galaxy far, far away.
***** I should have known that!
Middle Earth takes place in a fantastical pre-history of Earth (not that you would think it did)
In the middle.
A better question is where is the planet where George Lucas's WILLOW takes place.

Nice video! Do you happen to have a video on extra-galactic space? I always wanted to know more about it and what lies beyond the galaxy.
Very informative, thanks
do a video on hyperdrives
So do you think you could do a video on Bacta and its medical properties?
So Cool Man!! Thank you for all these amazing videos!
When the son kills the daughter, they have to kill the son to balance it out. that's all I know
Really awesome video man, bravo.
Do you think you can do a video like this, but for the Star Wars Canon?
1:50 How could you not know how large your galaxy was yet know of other planets within the inner part of it???
always wondered how far the Milky Way is from the Star Wars Galaxy. Is it ever mentioned in any stories, etc?
Where on this chart would the Yuuzhan Vong come from if you don't mind me asking?
+theYoungNation They came from outside The Galaxy. The "Vector Prime" invasion location was at the top center of the map, however. (L1/2/3 grid coords), near Helska.
CodexofWisdom many thanks
loved this video, very informative. keep up the good work!
I wonder why the Unknown Regions were so unexplored. It looks like half of the galaxy was never fully explored, but the right was. Was it because of the Chiss?
So wait
If Coruscant is in the Core and Naboo is in the Mid Rim
Then how would the main characters of episode one get to Coruscant?
Ok so I've been a huge fan of the Star Wars movies my whole life, but what other canon is good to start with to learn more about the Star Wars universe?
Well, I was pausing & looking for the Kessel Run, ya know...the one Solo says he trekked it in 12 parsecs.
I was just looking for a map yesterday and the information about the rims.
Hi can u make a video on what exactly was the old republic and what happen during the old republic thank u love your vidoes
Also if Earth was in the Star Wars it would be in the Outer Rim of the Unknown Region, which is interesting to think about
No it's not legends
If fact free watches these guys, I'm subscribing
Thank you.
Could you do a video on the unknown region?
And Kamino?
Kamino is located above the galactic disk, outside the main galaxy and to the "south" of the dwarf satellite galaxy called the Rishi Maze. It's considered to be in Wild Space, because its location is charted but it isn't officially claimed by the Empire.
Kamino is at the way edge of the galactic disk. As to where it is located. It is way far off on the east, southeast side of galaxy. I know it is relatively close to the planets Rothana and Shola.
down to the point good info i am subscribing. good work ! thank you
Great video! Could you possibly do one on Darth Jadus??
Do you guys think that there may be earth somewhere out there in the unknown region? And it would be sick if along the World Between Worlds there were other universes in SW.
Holy s*** your videos are so interesting and informative :D
Asgard is in the unknowm regions?
How come the in-video map is so much more detailed than the linked one?
is geography is the correct term, considering it isn't consisted of only 'geo' but an entire galaxy? maybe Chorography would be correct... same greek origin, just a thought
Could you a video about 100 years of darkness?
Could you make a video about Skytroopers?
Where does it say the Unknown Region is three times larger than the galaxy's? I can't find anything
Thanks for this video! Star Wars geography is very interesting to me, and also very confusing seeing as many sources (such as various video games) have conflicting information :P
0:10 the "dark side"(its not sith's dark side) theres earth
i have a question i would love you to answer where is the kessel run?
Please do a history of Holograms in Star Wars.
awesome vid man!
Why is it the the worlds closer the galatic center are better of than those closer to the edge?
