Galaxy not Universe. Star trek's quadrants divide the Galaxy. Canon suggests there is a barrier at the edge of the galaxy and other things like Kelvins from Andromeda that can turn you into a cube of minerals. So canon recognizes the galaxy and things beyond, e.g. the universe. Colloquially, we use the term Universe to describe all of canon (e.g. the Marvel Universe) for a specific franchise.
It literally shows a picture of the Milky Way galaxy in the background.
Don't worry, this Star Trek quadrants just a concept of milky way, not the accurate real time galactic civilizations map. Our milky way and neighboring galaxies didn't divide, whether the alternative time frames or Andromeda.

That cartoon chart of all the different races is awesome!! I had to go back and pause to try and read all of it but it cut off. I can’t wait for a video over all the different races and then some deep dive videos into each race individually. Or maybe by quadrant if individually is too much or some races don’t have enough canon lore for a full video. I’m really loving this channel. Of course, I love all the others. But I think Star Trek holds a special place in my heart over the rest of the fandoms you cover. Great video as usual. Very informative without being boring 🤘🏼🔥
Unfortunately, while pretty, it is utterly wrong.
Not just that it is a 2D representation of a 3D thing. Several details are definitely contradicted by canon.
Examples: on this map, the Tzenkethi are near Bajor. When the Defiant travels in their direction in the episode "The Adversary", it takes them quite a bit of time to travel there. More importantly: According to canon the Klingons are hemmed in, they share borders with Cardassia, Romulans and the Federation and the shortest path from Qonos to Cardassia Prime is close to Bajor. Otoh it is correct that Cardassia and Romulus don't have borders and actually are on opposite sides of the Federation.
There also should be more holes in the Federation area. There are lots of systems that are either prewarp (eg Mintaka) or just not interested (eg Malcor) or not ready (Kes-Prit, Acamar, Tasha Yar's homeworld, those hyperaggressive guys mentioned in the Insurrection movie, ...).
Btw that is my biggest problem with the Dominion War. In TNG we had the impression that 12 ships was a huge fleet and that Cmdr Shelby could name almost all of the ships in service. So the entire Star Fleet might have been a few dozen, certainly less than 200ships. Suddenly, during the battles for DS 9 and Cardassia there are dozens of squadrons and hundreds of ships which constitute only a single task fleet with more fleets guarding central planets, etc. And all those ships were the same models from Utopia Planitia^^.
Ofc Star Trek fails with regard to sci-fi hardness, so that travel times are lengthened and shortened according to the needs of the script.

I always wondered why Voyager never went towards the Gamma quadrant end of the Bajoran wormhole instead of the way they did. I've also wondered whats on the other side of the Romulan star system and Klingon empire and Cardassian union

No one knows where the wormhole ends (it has never been said on screen). If it ended in the middle of the gamma quadrant for example:
The travel distancd would be 65000 light years instead of 70000.
I am not sure but the USS Odyssey might have already been destroyed when the Voyager started its trip, so they could expect the dominion to be hostile.
In the Galaxy map we got from the Picard series, (which is thr forst official star trek map), although it is very zoomed in the alpha and beta quadrant, we can see that there are some federation words on the other side of the Klingon and Romulan star empires.
But we dont know what is even more west than that

" That's because it's a 2D map of 3D space and the territories are volumes so part of the Federation space appears to go under and around Klingon and Romulan space. We've never been shown a map of the edge of the galaxy showing the "elevations" that each territory exists in.
This isn't the universe. It's merely our galaxy. One of countless thousands that make up what we know as the universe, and all of which is still expanding. The actually size of which is inconceivably... big.
And the Milky Way is even smaller than Andromeda galaxy!
TNG established the Milky way was seeded by ancient humanoid creatures. This is why most life in Trek is DNA based and why most species evolved to be humanoids. It also explains why most worlds have similar plants and animals that just evolved differently based on the worlds they were on.
Wow...glad to know this DNA based galactic civilization development process. However, since humanoid ET and humanoid draconian involved in Lyrian space expansion, galactic members doesn't seems other species as foreigners, because there are billions of species between DERN and DAL universe.

This is pretty neat, but at 5:25 you say that the Enterprise was flung to the Delta Quadrant by Q. System J25 was only 12000 ly away, and therefore was very much still in the Beta Quadrant.
Yep, lots of mistakes, both in the audio and in the maps.
Hello there Federation Outpost 1-11. This video was really interesting and informational. I knew some information about the different quadrants from Star Trek thanks to my Star Trek Encyclopedia. However, sometimes a book, like that can get very confusing. That is why I really enjoyed this video and the way that you broke down each quadrant. It was a perfect way to introduce young fans of Star Trek to the quadrants or reintroduce older fans' passion for the Star Trek franchise.

@@phillipwalters7702 in the continuum, time spent is of no importance. It's all an investment in understanding and an opportunity. The way I see it, when Q was bugging Picard, most of the time it was probably just him killing time while a petri dish somewhere cultivated (metaphorically). In other words, just glad we share a general appreciation of what stories are still untold.

For ANY ship in Starfleet Registry to be able to go Andromeda in 300 years, the ship would need a speed of Warp 19 to do it. 2,000,000 divided by 300 = 6,667. Then look up the cube root of 6,667. It's actually Warp 18.82, so Warp 19 isn't that far off.

As the galaxy spins, shouldn't the quadrant reference spin in tune to it? Otherwise just wait long enough and a delta system will swing into the alpha quadrant!

No, the quadrants are spinning relative to each other around a fixed point. The planets stay in their own quadrants keeping the planets at a fixed distance to each other

I wonder why Voyager didn't go out of the Galaxy to avoid contact with aggressive species instead of going through their territories.
And take many times longer to get home instead of taking the most direct route? It also needed to refuel time to time and there wouldn't be much of any resources outside of the galactic plane.

3:17 - DId you say that Vulcan and Andoria are in the Beta Quadrant (BQ)? Uh... no. They're both in the Alpha Quadrant (AQ); Vulcan is only about 16LY from Earth, while Andoria is about 11LT from Earth.
As for the Klingons, much of their territory extends into BQ, but Qo'onos (homeworld) is also AQ about 90LY from Earth.
Dude can't even get the terms "universe" and "galaxy" correct, unsurprising that he messed up so many other details.
I hope you do a video explaining Star Trek V The Final Frontier where they travel to the center of the universe to find GOD.

Correct. Galaxy travel would be impossible short of a wormhole or a very adavnce method. Not even sure if the caretaker could send a ship to ... say the Andromeda galaxy.

🥺this is disappointing to me...because i was under the impression that Star Trek had travelled to other galaxies themselves...and all this time, they've always been stuck in the Milky Way galaxy and haven't gone anywhere else
Nah, the rubbish about a so called “galactic barrier” still persists in some circles.
Nah, it was only ever the Milky Way galaxy. There are one-off episodes where, say, the TNG crew find themselves sent to Andromeda, but it's never under their own conventional power. The percentage of the MW explored is also extremely low, which I think is in keeping with reality: warp drives or no, space is BIG.
Speaking of space being big, the presence of a galactic barrier is neither here nor there with regards travelling to other galaxies. Other galaxies are significantly further away than the spans of the galaxies themselves; even without the galactic barrier to contend with, Andromeda (our closest big galaxy) is thousands of years away at high warp, with essentially no chance of refuelling along the way (there is stuff out there, but it's so sparse it's probably of no practical use to a Starfleet vessel, and most of it is free-floating hydrogen). There are dwarf galaxies in "close" orbit around the MW that are possibly explorable in a human lifetime, which are in the process of being absorbed into the MW. Finally, we DO have a kind of galactic barrier. Dark matter forms a spherical boundary around our galaxy (and many galaxies like ours), and our galaxy is a warped disc that slices through it, side to side. Now, it probably doesn't hinder space flight as depicted in Trek, but then, as we've never been able to directly observe the stuff (it's relatively uncommon in the galaxy itself, and doesn't interact with anything, including itself, except gravitationally) we don't actually know what it'd do to a ship trying to punch through it with a (gravity based, remember) warp drive.
I wait since end of voyager to expand to andromeda, but it never happens. so bad and dissapointed to me.
your animation representing the rotation of the galaxy is wrong...
If you picture the galaxy with the spiral arms wound counterclockwise, then the galaxy must also rotate counterclockwise... Even if it is counter-intuitive. You can look up 'density wave theory' for more details.

If Romulus and Klingon empires are in the Beta quadrant, then the original 75 year voyage of Voyager shouldn’t have been 75 years, it doesn’t take 20 years to get to the neutral zone, only a few hours at maximum warp, I think you misjudged the size of the galaxy
Remember that Earth is in the beta quadrant half the year. That region, being literally a fourth of the entire galaxy, is *huge* containing at least 100 billion stars. Voyager originally had to cross almost twice that distance sans shortcuts.
It is not he who misjudged anything - it is the franchise who is inconsequential here. Especially in Old Trek ships went relativly a lot faster because they "had to get somewhere" to tell the story. Later, the speed became less, patrtly because quite a lot of the story arcs would not make sense any more.
The gorn are so damn stupid in TOS. I really like what SNWs is doing with them. They're being treated almost like Xenomorphs, albiet Xenomorphs who can pilot starships.
