Our special guest speaker John Walton discusses the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The most important event in the life of every Christian, and affecting the world, is the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Death is everyone's last enemy, described as having a "stinger," which is sin. The Resurrection of Jesus signifies we don't need to worry about the sting of death anymore because there is eternal life in Jesus.
The raising of Lazarus from the dead was Jesus' last miraculous public sign, done in Winter close to Hannukah, foreshadowing Jesus' death on the cross and Resurrection at Passover. When comforting Lazarus' sisters, Jesus stated one of the seven I AM statements. "I AM the Resurrection and the Life. He that believes in me will live, even if he dies."
And Jesus speaks to us today in the same passage by asking, "Do you believe this?"
The "I AM" statements in the gospel of John allude to Christ's deity. It declares he is the same God from before Abraham, the same God who spoke to Moses in the burning bush, who said to tell Pharoah and the Israelites that "I Am That I Am" sent him. And if we believe in him, we too can have eternal life.
