    Hey Larry, I've enjoyed all 4 videos. I just found them. I subscribed after the first one I watched.
    Great editing, it good to know some of the story behind the clips we see. You have a Handsome Dog.
    I hope you can keep posting the videos. I'm now hooked on "When" the tree will fall. It looks like the Beaver have sub contracted the work on the tree to the ants to finish it. The racoons are making it difficult for the ants , the beaver might have to finish what they started. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us.

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  4 года назад +2

      Bud, thanks for the comment. I too wish the beavers would finish the job on the tree. Like many sub-contractors I doubt the ants can be relied upon to get the job done in a timely fashion. Ha! I will definitely post another video if/when the tree falls. Hopefully it does by Spring and the camera picks up the movement in time to record the event.

      I didn't know they had both a short gestation period (11 to 13 days) or such a short average lifespan, mostly due to predators until I followed up on your comment to find out more about them. Apparently "playing 'possum'" isn't as effective a predator deterrent as I thought. Thanks!

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  4 года назад +1

      I just looked at each frame of the video for the sliding animal and enlarged them. I can see a head with short ears in one frame and what appear to be front legs on a relatively long body. In a previous video (Vol 1 at 9 minutes 34 seconds) I mentioned an unknown animal was possibly a mink. Although the one in this latest video is really small, I'm going to guess it's a mink again, but without much certainty. Thanks for commenting!

      When i was looking at the possum fairly close to it I I could see his eye move a little to keep watch on me, but other than that he remained motionless with his mouth partially open. I thought it was funny that they even use the “play dead” tactic and wonder what their success rate is against a real predator by doing that. Ha.

      The elm tree is still standing. It’s been so dry here this year, so there’s a lot of green algae on the creek and I haven’t had as much animal action. I hope it improves. I also thought the woody attack on the camera was pretty funny too. On closer inspection he did put a small hole on one of the side motion sensors. Thanks for the comment.

    was the first animal seen going up tree a fisher? small slender critter could be a mink

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  3 года назад +1

      I'm not familiar with "fishers" so I looked it up and see that it's a member of the weasel family, although with the pictures they showed it looks more like a badger than a weasel. I've had badgers on my property before.... they have a nasty attitude and aren't afraid of anything. However, the very first animal going up the tree in the Volume 4 video is just a black squirrel. We have mostly red squirrels here, but there seems to be more of the black ones in the last few years.
      As for the small slender critter maybe being a mink, that's kind of what I thought except it's so small. Maybe just a young one?

  • @rickeggers644
    @rickeggers644 3 года назад

    Love the video. But I don't think that the heron has ice on its back, I believe that is a young bird that still has a few down feathers if it was ice, I think you would see ice crystals on ponds edge.

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  3 года назад

      I checked to see if I had any other video clips in the previous 24 hours leading up to that heron video that might show a snow or ice storm or an abrupt change in temperature, which happens a lot in Nebraska, but there weren't any. So, I can't confirm or deny whether those are indeed ice chunks or down feathers. Thanks for the comment!

    • @larrypeterson3375

      That tree still hasn’t fallen down yet and I still have two cameras pointing at it. A smaller tree that I had a camera aimed at did fall but the camera didn’t wake up in time to catch much of the fall. I wish the beavers would do a little more chewing on it to get the job done.

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  4 года назад +1

      I put cameras on that tree last Spring when I saw the beavers were working on it. The weeds along that creek get 2 to 3 feet high and the wind caused them to move and constantly trigger the cameras. So, I used a weed eater around the area and beside getting less false triggering of the cameras. I also think it helped give the animals a place to hang out by the water without being surrounded by tall weeds and they take advantage of it. I don't know if the beavers have permanently abandoned their efforts to finish off the tree, but I will keep waiting and try to avoid the temptation to move things along with a little chainsaw assistance. Kidding. Thanks for the comment.

    Can you please change the temperature reading on the camera to Fahrenheit. Great videos and thank you, thank you, thank you for not adding music to the video as so many people post videos that might have great footage but they can’t seem to help themselves and add guitars, pianos, Latin music heavy metal and somehow think it adds to the video. As soon as the music starts I’m out and when you look at the comments they’re mostly about the crappy unnecessary music that messed up their video.

    • @larrypeterson3375
      @larrypeterson3375  3 года назад +1

      The two Campark cameras I use show both Centigrade and Fahrenheit. They are both displayed and it's not a settable option to shut one or the other off. I too can't stand trail cam videos that add "music" and I much prefer the natural sounds. My Wildgame Innovations camera is a low-end version and only records 15 second videos without sound or still pictures. Thanks for the comment!

      Mark, I just use "Windows Live Movie Maker" to create my videos. If you're using a PC running Windows the movie maker program should already be on it. Once you have the program open, click on File, New Project and then Add Videos and Photos. Play around with the different options like Titles at the beginning, add Captions, insert selectable transitions between your videos (like crossfade, blur, etc.). It's fun! Be sure to Save your project frequently as the Movie Maker program is a little unstable and frequently abruptly ends itself and you will have to restart it and do File, Open Project to recover back to the last time you saved.

    I doubt the tree will fall in your lifetime. It is still alive and believe it or not that trunk is still sturdy. If the tree dies then the trunk will rot and soften. We had trees like that. They did not fall from that tree's problem but from the ground around it getting so soggy and the tree so big it just fell over.
