- So remember when we seeded into hard, dry grass that nearly killed my drill? Haha well, here's what it looks like so far.

I love how you break down the logic of how your operation is routinely profitable. Those nuggets are fascinating. Many thanks Mike!
Hey Mike, truly enjoy your channel. I grew up on a small dairy farm in Western NY. It is so different watching what you do and deal with up there! God bless your family!
Just learned more about farming the prairie land and have a more thorough understanding of the economic of it than 2 years in horticulture class. Thank you for that because even though I absolutely love every single video I’ve never truly understood how it possible to make money on such low yields but now I get the concept and it’s actually more straight forward than I would have thought
It’s going to be very interesting to see how the crop progresses and what kind of harvest you end up with. It would make my freaking year to see you guys end up with a bumper crop!
Thanks for sharing Mike - good to hear your thoughts.
F yea Mike we are about at the same stage as you in South Australia, all the best for the season ahead brother 🌾👍
Great information. Very informative
Nice crop of Rocks also ! lol !
Great video. I appreciate the explanation.
Also run ACF-SR biological bacteria product at 2-3 gals.. it will really kick the durum into high gear.. it breaks down the fertilizer and nutrients fast so the durum can up take it. Also creates a huge root mass..
good info on the economics and scale Mike - thank you
Interesting. Answered a few questions Ive had.
Man that would be exiting watching u guys harvest a bumper crop.
It looks like the rocks are growing very well.
Joe
Big hello from Australia...
Wishing you the best for the 2024 season harvest...😊
Great awesome video
A few timely rains on that you will have a monster crop!
Crop looks good considering what you seeded into. July will make or break it.
Good day Mike. I enjoy your "show "
I remember years ago you had shown work on a dugout expansion at the south farm. Just wondering if it finally is providing the desired results?
Master Class here Folks just saying.
Oh my come on Rain keep it comin More Rain more rain more rain please lord there ya go mile there is ur rain DANCE lol
Having grown up on a farm in southern Iowa I'm always amazed at the number and size of rocks I see laying on the ground in Mike's videos and the guys in Montana.
That’s being in glacier country for you! We farmed a few hours west of Mike and on our hay fields even with rock picker and even hand picking still was getting rocks after 70 years haha 🤣
Salut Mike magnifique vidéo sur le champ de blé et comace à pouce😮😅😊
Zooming your cameras focus point isn't actually time travelling Mike, even though your voice sounded very sincere. 😂
😂
Talking about water conservation, how about stripper headers? Would that work for catching the snow and more shade?
They don't work well in thin crop.
Morning
I found and brought home one of those little catcus from around Burtsall, SK.... how big to those get?
But Mike, we can see trees in the back. 😉
Hello Mike will you need a combine driver for this harvest season?
But Mike, I heard lots of birds, with no trees, around.
Hi Mike, we are just under you in Minnesota and we are getting a lot of rain.
He is north of northeast corner of Montana/northwest corner of north dakota
Minnesota is nowhere near SW Saskatchewan
@@darkrevenger04The south farm bin site is south of Brakken SK well west slightly north from the MT/ ND border .
Interesting.Could these crops all make it without more rain?Is there enough soil moisture for that?
Do your brothers and other family members seed the same as you do? Are their crop yields roughly the same as yours?
👍
Did you get any frost damage, looks like it got cold up there.
👋😊
Ahoj. Tak už to máš venku. Tak zbyvá jen déšť. Pak hurá do žní. Bůh ti žehnej.
would the yellowing be due to the grass breaking down creating an acidic layer? Is lime an option to counter this?
you still running green for fall? Are you tempted to try the new Case IH or New Holland?
When cattle were there I’m sure it was set stock grazing so in other word severely overgrazed. I recommend you look up Alejandro Carillo, he runs a ranch in the desert in Mexico with 6” of annual rainfall some years and is buried in grass and other forage species due to his management style. These praries should have never been broken to the extent they are and ruminants should be part of the rotation. Big grain farming is a lesson on how to create deserts. Just adding to the conversation not trying to be negative.
Don’t apologize for speaking the truth. The problem is that people like Mike will never adapt unless forced to do so. Growing a crop every four years isn’t sustainable or environmentally friendly
That not great area to run cattle on, in dry years either. Be lucky to feed 15 pair per quarter. And their water source would be another battle
That’s because 15 pair per quarter isn’t nearly enough density. You need to be pushing 800,000 to 1 million pounds of live animal per acre to really start improving production and soil health
@@clearskiesranch1362 yeah. Good luck getting water to them doing that
@@wallyyuriy8912 I don’t need luck. I do it every day just a few miles from where Mike was in this video.
@@clearskiesranch1362 how do u get water to them only getting a few acres at a time ?
Mike I have a question
Why do you not sow winter wheat there
Thanks for the great videos
Dry climate not a lot of snow cover to protect from winterkill.
Cactus? This part of Canada must border Mexico
👉Did you finish seeding before your brothers birthday this year?🤔🚜🚜🌾🌾
May 25th?
I hope you have a rock picker
He has 3
Video is 12:18, but with the "ooooh maaaaan"s all removed it is only 7 minutes....................
You all have cactus up there?
Yes. Not large ones but still cactus
Hey Mike, there are those who think all agriculture should stop to save the planet. After all, you can still get food from the grocery store!😅
No one thinks that, you just only believe alt right rage bait “news”
The only crops damaging the environment are almonds, avacado, and corn for ethanol. Take ethanol out of gas and you would free up a ton of land for food agriculture, almonds and avacados require a TON of water to produce.
Interesting. Now Mike, without getting into politics, what has been the effect of dissolving the Wheat Board on your farming operations?
Best thing to ever happen!... Imagine being paid salary and your boss determines how much of that wage you ll receive from month to month. Also it's illegal to work for anyone else, or take a job on the side... Crazy it was ever allowed...
@@mikemitchell2554 Thanks, I thought so.
That looks like a peyote cactus, eat it 😂
Seeding grass for cattle confuses me a little. Why does it seem everyone in North America is either a farmer (crops) or a rancher (animals)? In Aus the sheep/cattle are just part of the crop rotation :P
Because they don’t understand soil health or the importance of improving soil quality with livestock
Must be Trudeau’s new carbon tax making it rain!!! Hahaha not…
They're telling you to keep your fields in grass, and telling us grass is the worst thing out for the planet...theres some maf people out there 😂
