But this truck has the Allison 2000, compared to the Eaton in the last truck. The Allison really wakes this truck up. I ran her hard and put her away wet.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  8 лет назад +3

      My biggest dislike with the Internationals is the MaxxForce engines. All the DTs I have driven you could be going 40-50mph,then you go to accelerate and put your foot to the floor and its like you didn't even touch the pedal. The truck doesn't accelerate, its loud at idle compared to the Cummins as well. Its like you floor it, and the engine sits back sips some tea and reads the newspaper then comes back 5-10 seconds later and decides its going to go forward. The drivers area in this isn't bad, the newer ones have air ride, air brakes, and engine brakes.

      callofdutyguy9 I havent driven any 4700s, would like to though. I have ridden in a ton of them though, loud as you expect for that generation of trucks but overall well built. Although I do prefer the looks of the FL70 better myself.

      crazyjdkid you seem like a big Freightliner fan. That's OK though. They're only second Navistar :)

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 лет назад

      Well its not so much to do with the truck itself but rather the company. Navistar has a history of not taking care of their customers and standing behind their product. Most of which has to do with their in house engines. Lets see the 6.0L/VT365, MaxxForce 7, and the MaxxForce 13 all are plagued with problems and have a ton of lawsuits. The majority of these issues arise from the lack of preparation and engineering when new emissions laws arose. They paid the government fines for years rather than produce a better, cleaner running engine and left their customers with a highly unreliable product without support. Even the DTs were very lackluster in their final days. So its hard to understand the reasoning on why one would support and risk with a company such as Navistar rather than go with one such as Freightliner/Hino/Ford/KW or another along those sorts that have been know for good service ethics. Now that Volkswagen just bought a large portion of Navistar, maybe they will work to improve it. But they have a lot of work to do so. I think they should re-brand there companies as IC is no longer an "Integrated Coach".Not sure how many of these medium duty trucks you have driven but I personally have found the Freightliners much more enjoyable to drive.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  8 лет назад +2

      brambo Penske buys these trucks at the lowest power output rating so like 190-210hp. And the transmissions learn the behavior of the driver, and will adjust accordingly. The DT is a slug of an engine anyway, the Cummins really wakes these trucks up.

      crazyjdkid you can get an ISL in it, not common, but is offered. The DuraScrap was only issued with MaxxNoises until 2016 when the EPA credits and spare engines were exhausted. To my knowledge, we may have two old ones with the old engine left in our district, some lease customers held on to them. In other news, we had a batch of brandy new MV’s come in last week, 26 foot reefers.
      And the internationals have Eatons, the Freightliners have Allisons.
      The MaxxForces absolutely hate the cold, can’t get them started for crap, and are very irritable. Once they warm up, they run a lot better.

      BusMaster99 I don't know. I love MaxxForce engines. Our school district has all CE & FE series busses with MaxxForce DT466. Naturally, the 2016 buses have the ISB6.7, but we haven't had any troubles with the MaxxForce engine.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  8 лет назад +1

      Your district will find that the Cummins ISB is a much better engine. The older pre-egr/dpf DTs are good engines(Essentially the DT466/DT466E). But the the later ones are choked up so much. It was bred out of Navistar's inability and desperation to meet emissions. In which they failed miserably.The same thing happened during the transition from the T444E to the VT365. Poor engineering causing unnecessary failure.

    • @LZGAjeepslav799
      @LZGAjeepslav799 8 лет назад +1

      Navistar has made some dumb decisions. Constantly making minute changes and then changing the name from DT466 to just DT, then to 13. If they just conformed to standards, they may have had more successful engines. Ford's 7.3 and 6.4 liter PowerStroke engines were much more solid. Navistar simply took them and jacked around with them, making their reliability suffer.
      Our district sold off all of the 2002 - 2004 busses over the summer. The 2005 - 2009 MaxxForce DT466's in them have been lucky I guess. They have pisspoor performance and may get up to 10 mpg, but they have never failed us.The bus that comes to my house to pick me up is an '09. Since it was bought in late '08, it has never had problems. It does have alot of issues with the automatic regen system, though.
      When we get to 2010 and up, things get a little sketchy. 2010 - 2012 have issues like piston blow-by and bad injector's. The 2013 model of MaxxForce DT, however, is a sack of sh*t. The have a huge issue with destroying turbo's. We've used Borg Warner, Holset, and I think Garrett turbo's. It destroys them all. On the way to the high school, my secondary bus, which is a 2013, had the bearings in the turbo blow up. I love the sound of the 2013 DT, just like all the other years of DT, but they just don't perform.
      Funny thing is that all of these busses don't even reach 195*F on the coolant. If they do, which is rare, the hydraulic powered fan kicks on, the coolant runs through the pisshole on the thermostat, and it cools back down to somewhere in the high 170*F vicinity within 20 seconds.
      These ISB's so far have been just as reliable. They have alot more get-off-the-line acceleration. But, haphazardly, the drivers of them are not used to the sound of it, nor dealing with the DEF tank.
      Personally, I believe IC moving to Cummins was a good idea. May be a better investment in the long run. But at the same time, we've used the DT's for a decade. The bus garage trained especially for them. It shouldn't be too hard for them to adapt given they are both straight-6 engines.
