So many little things to learn about all of this. But all the videos you have done I think I have watched them all a few times over. Thanks Garrett your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much! I redrew the grid pattern for my waste board about 8 times to try and get it to generate a toolpath. Same error kept coming up. After watching this, one click and I was good to go! Garrett you are my hero because I was at wits end. Thank you brother!
Barb, you're one of my favorites here. What type of video would you like to see. Send me an email and I'll see if I can bump it into the list a little higher.
Hi Garrett, another great video that is very much appreciated. My son was stumped for a minute... about the length of his patience! Anyway- you are awesome!
I had a similar issue with an engraving yesterday. Multiple duplicate vectors being ignored. ( line over line ). My quick fix was to click on a line, ( would show up as a darker pink ) , then I click it again ( whch would select it and not the 2nd line, then delete. No node editing / moving required. Cleaned it all up in just a few minutes :-) After this i have better understanding of the vector validator though . Cheers
I've been using Mastercam since the early 90's, starting with V6. This often was a common issue. Seeing what was or was not happening, revealed what and where the problem was and the course of action to take to solve it. When I began using Vectric, I couldn't do anything with it. Trying to diagnose a problem with Mastercam thinking and solutions did not help. Videos like yours and others helped me get through those problems step by step. They are very valuable teaching tools. Thanks for doing them.
What an excellent tutorial. Very clearly explained and extremely helpful. Looked around for quite some time before finding a video that really explained this. Great job. Just subscribed! Keep them coming.
Thanks again Garrett, as usual great video. I'm glad you covered this issue, because it did confuse me a bit and at times downright annoyes me, but I guess there are worse things going on in life. Those nodes can be a tad tricky at times. Caution ... patience required. Thanks Andrew.
Hey Andrew. Yeah, sometimes Vectric returns errors and we don;t know what to do with them. So glad this one helped you. It'll make a difference in the future for sure for you.
Garrett - Excellent video, best one yet and I estimate I've watched about 20 of yours so far. I have had this problem before using other software when I tried to create a pathway from an image and sadly without this validate fx I had to just abandon the project when I could not determine where the vector was corrupted. Almost ready to open a project. Ms. KaDee
Thanks for helping Garrett! Definitely helps a lot! I worked on it for a long time joining vectors before I sent it to you there were way more, those there kept stumping me. @@IDCWoodcraft LOL, I had used my old 8.5 version of VCP, not the 11 version. Opened it with the 11 Ver and found it. And solved the problem. And yes I moved my version 8.5 into a folder off the desktop.
When I try to calculate toolpath it tells me I have duplicate toolpaths and will ignore them. It calculates but makes a ton of air cuts and takes forever to run. How do I find the duplicate paths?
MtBeaver, try to look at your list of toolpaths for duplicates brother! Either that or you might have issues with your z zero when you run your project!
Love your video's, but so frustrated. Been working on a piece for 3 days now, and thought I was done...49 intersections! I was able to solve the overlaps, thanks to your video, but I can't figure out the intersections. I found your "JD Crafts" video, and it's a similar issue, but it seems that was unresolved as well. The points are merely connecting with lines at various locations, but no matter what I try; "join open", "join/close", "curve fit", "fillet", redraw the lines or curves, nothing seems to work. Any feedback would be helpful as I'm under a time crunch to complete.
Why not use : right click select all open vectors , and then join vectors to join all or nearly all of the open vectors ? (Edit Options, first column last item ) That's way faster then fixing them one by one. Kind regards Hans
The error message went away at the end because you chose the profile toolpath to run ON the lines, while the original error message popped up when you tried to run the profile toolpath outside the line. You also ran that same toolpath before you started fixing everything and it didn't give the error, so it doesn't have anything to do with faulty vectors overlapping or intersecting. If you simply draw 2 lines, where one runs horizontal and the other runs vertical and they intersect, you still can run both using a profile toolpath on the lines and it will mill perfectly. I guess everything you did didn't fix that issue because that error informs you that there are open vectors in the design that it cannot run using a profile toolpath outside the lines. An open vector doesn't have an outside or inside, so you cannot run the profile toolpath on the outside with everything selected. When you just ran it anyways, only the outline of the jeep and wheels were calculated as those were closed vectors which do have an outside and inside and will run fine using such a toolpath. All the details in the jeep are designed with open vectors and cannot be calculated using a profile toolpath outside the line. So the issue persists, even after fixing everything using the vector validator. You could select the wheels and jeep outline and run a profile toolpath outside the lines, then select all the details and run another profile toolpath ON the lines.
@@IDCWoodcraft Just got on my pc to try some stuff myself to confirm my own theory. Seems Aspire 10.5 (I got a trial version) does calculate a profile toolpath on the outside or inside of a straight line and arcs that are open vectors without any errors. I'm a beginner myself and assumed doing a profile cut on the outside/inside of an open vector wouldn't work but it does. It seems my above assumption is not entirely correct. But I'm still wondering why you couldn't get the details to show up when doing those outside profile toolpaths on them, especially on vectors that didn't have errors according to the vector validator. I also created a zigzap polyline that intersects itself 5 times and ran an outside profile toolpath. Vector validator says I got 5 intersections but calculating the toolpath gives no errors, just an unexpected result as not the entire line has been cut out.
You cannot run a profile tool path on an open vector unless you are on the line. If you create clothes vectors across each other, you will get validation errors.
