Thank you for a lovely tour of CalTrans' bad boy. From Big Sur north to the Oregon border, scarcely a month has gone by without a landslide washing out a portion of Hwy 1.
Takes me back to October 2001 when I did the pacific highway. We were seemingly virtually the only tourists in California but we weren't gonna let anybody stop us flying and ruin our trip. Always enjoy your vids even if they do keep adding to my ridiculously long list of places to go see...
i really like this video .I love the California Coast anyway & You drove a decent speed so i could see what we were passing & no loud rude annoying so called music blasting as in many other driving videos ...It was very peaceful & the sound of the ocean breeze coming through the open windows was calming , I like the stops you made along the way & from what i am seeing & hearing , this being observed by someone who gets nervous & rightly so, being around or in a car driven by an impatient irresponsible wound up speed racer ~ tailgating driver ~ I would gladly take a road trip with someone as mellow as you :)
Tim, I need to win the lottery so I can just stop working and take roadtrips much like what you're doing, but then again, I'm already doing it (virtually) in your vlogs, LOL...
uhau Renatinho e Matt, que belo passeio e que otimo video... deu para curtir a viagem e estes belos locais.. todos nós vimos o video... parabéns... vou esperar pelo proximo passeio... estava mesmo bom! ---- uhau Renatinho and Matt, what a beautiful ride and what a great video ... we enjoyed the trip and these beautiful places ... we all saw the video ... congratulations ... I will wait for the next ride ... it was really good!
Shivkumar D. In 1961 and 1962 the highway 101 though Oregon's Samuel Boardman Scenic Corridor was built. They kept the highway out of the faboulous scenery.Way to go Oregon!
Thanks for the vid but which areas got the BIKINIS during the US1? Huntington Beach I love the BIKINIS. Might take a drive from San Diego all the way up Oregon.
Yes. I have done that exact route/distance a couple years ago on my motorcycle and I am planning another trip next summer in July and mapped out the same route so will be stopping in Monterey for the night and next day heading to Los Angeles. We rode casually and stopped several times at lookouts and for the elephant seals and lunch, etc. I don't remember the exact time it took but we usually leave around 7 or 8 in the morning and I know we arrived around 5 or 6 PM.
Hey wait. I'm from Iowa and I've done this drive a few times with family and friends. Of course, I've lived in the SF Bay Area since 1985. Everyone I've taken down this stretch loves it. Your Coastal Elitism is showing through, Richey.
Thank you for giving me the feeling of traveling without leaving my living room in Brazil. I loved it!
California has some of the most spectacular terrain in the whole country. An amazing place. Not without its challenges or shortcomings; but where is?

topknocker hamp Local traffic and tourists mostly. There are faster more direct routes if you are just trying to get from point A to point B.
They usually take the 5.
Great video! What type of camera did you use to record this?
How do you get to travel everywhere :)
