This video is an amazing breakdown of 3D horror in the 80s. I'm a huge 3D fanatic and have most of these on 3D blu-ray, and while most modern 3D horror movies kinda suck as 3D typically doesn't work well for dark scenes, the 80s 3D flicks nailed it, mostly by emphasizing the campy 3D gimmicks of shoving things WAY out of the screen and into your face. More than anything, the nostalgia of these movies is what hits the hardest.
Oh man, you neglected to show the glorious scene from Jaws 3 where the shark breaks thru the glass of the underwater research center... SUPER REALISTIC!
My first experience with 3-D was "Revenge of the Creature" shown in 3-D on channel 48. You gotva free pair of glasses with the purchase of a Slush Puppy drink.
@@mjwbulichYes! With the directions to manipulate the TV dials. Or at least mine had them. Those were the days to be a teen who loves horror movies. ❤
I became obsessed with horror movies watching Elvira at around seven or eight years old. In the summer of 1982, right around the time Friday the 13th 3D was released, Elvira played an old Vincent Price 3D movie called ' The Mad Magician' on TV. It was the biggest event in the world for nine year old me. I still remember going to the 7-11 to get the 3D glasses. My mother hadn't allowed me to see horror films in theaters before then but I hounded her until she let my aunt take me to see Friday the 13th 3D that summer. I saw Jaws 3D and Amityville the next year. I have the fondest of memories about these films.
Small correction - even during the 50s "golden era" of 3D, theatrical 3D movies were viewed through clear, polarized 3D glasses. Anaglyph 3D was used mostly for comic books or, later, TV airings.
I miss the awesome cover art on the VHS. Most horror movies I saw were based on the cover art. Horror cover art was the best. Just the best times ever. Great show!
Manythnx, I miss those days..I never saw this much change coming so fast.everything viewed back then was extra special. Because of the journey you took to find it
First video store experience for me was when we got our VCR for Christmas 1986. Only video store in Bucyrus, Ohio that I remember was actually Bill's TV and Appliances with a few dozen video titles lined up above their displays of TVs. Not many choices at the time.
Great video. I’m a HUGE 3D fan with a 3D TV and over 400 3D Blu-Rays and have almost all the movies named here on 3D Blu-Ray. Silent Madness, Friday 3, Amityville 3, Jaws 3, Parasite, ect. I’m always shocked at how many movie fanatics don’t own a 3D TV at home. To me it would be like not owning a color TV and saying “that color stuff is just a gimmick, it doesn’t really add anything!” What?!?
was able to get Amityville 3D on Bluray via an import from Germany. Excellent and some insane pop out 3D effects. The frisbee and the construction pole through the windshield are standout moments! A shame my 3DTV died and I have no way to watch my collection now (affordably).
Another Awesome Episode & wish I saw Parasite 3D but just out of HS did catch The Trilogy of Amityville, Jaws & Friday 13th all Part 3's on the Big Screen in 3D. Oh the Red / Blue or green glasses 3D is Anaglyph, which luckily in 2006 they released Friday 13th on Blu-ray w/ a 3d Anaglyph Disc to enjoy on your home system as I do annually.......❤
YES! I saw "Friday The 13th: Part 3 in 3-D" Twice on opening weekend once on Friday and a second time on Saturday afternoon. I also saw the awful "Jaws 3-D" it was laughable! My brother wanted to ask for a refund for what we were put through! I love all your videos just one request leave the trivia text on screen a bit longer. Cut the "Trivia" graphic intro and use that time for the information. Thanks. You're the greatest!
I seen Jaws 3D in the theater back in the 80's as a kid and yeah it was bad :) Also seen Freddy's Dead ending in the theater and was weird. I still have the glasses with the logo on it somewhere here in my house or storage.
Friday the 13th part 3 has the most chilling scene with Jason in it IMO.. I was probably 10, 11 years old and definitely shouldn’t have been watching that, but when she looks in the window and Jason pulls off his mask, my goodness that got to me..
First off - Great episode! Unfortunately for me, I was too young to have seen these in the theaters - meaning I missed out on my opportunity to catch them in 3-D. I am constantly keeping my eyes peeled for a showing of Friday the 13th - Part III in 3-D in my area though. Man, to have been able to be there on opening night back in '82 must have been an experience. One of my only in theater 3-D experiences I remember was not a horror movie; it was sort of a Mad Max/Sci-Fi flick titled "Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn." I don't recall it being that memorable in theaters and it didn't maintain much charm later on VHS (it does have a couple of cool scenes though). In any event, terrific episode. Looking forward to the next one!
Metalstorm is available as a 3D BD I own took it to my Sister in Laws on her then new Sony 3D setup, but sadly, I think 4k killed it off, currently no 3D TV or players made in the US😢😢
It's weird that 3D is still around. Like, I frequently forget that it's sometimes an option. Hell, up until I watched this video I completely forgot that it was sometimes an option *and I've seen two 3D movies in the past year* (the Jaws re-release (which made me think *"holy shit, that is a fence!"* every few minutes) and Avatar 2).
I do wish you, and a lot of other film channels I follow would put all the films mentioned in the description, saves back tracking and taking note while watching to see if there is anything I've missed.
I remember seeing Parasite in 3d as a child, it scared the hell out of me being 7 at the time. Also Jaws 3D was an event, it wasn't good but it was an event. I just wish John Carpenter's The THING was released in 3D, that would of been terrifying, well even more Terrifying.
I have vague memories of tv guides (in the uk) giving away the 3d glasses for their showing of some 3D content which I'm sure included Jaws. I've definitely seen Friday the 13th 3 in 3D but can't remember where or if it was tv or vhs.
I have the F13 pt.3 home release with the red/blue glasses .......does not work at all😢. Parasite is absolutely horrendous to try and sit through, but it also has Tom Villard from Popcorn fame in it too. But, that's pretty bad when all of that talent and Winston effects STILL cannot save it from being a huge stinker.
You missed a movie that was released in theaters in 1984 . It was a horror/ comedy and scared me as a child . So if a fish is considered horror then the one you missed should have . The movie I’m referring to is gremlins. Way more scary than a fish or dog attack. Lol❤ just bringing to your attention no ill intent
LOL, I just got the MVD remaster of Comin At Ya in the mail last week..lol Anyhoo, Seeing both FT13th 3D (Which is still a masterpiece in 2D) and Jaws 3D in the theatres, they were cool as heck. Of course Jaws 3 sux aside from seeing Dennis Quaid topless...lmao
I always thought why were only part 3's allowed to be in 3D at the time, being a little too young to see them at the time, still useful for the film's marketing ... just chuck on a 'D' at the end ... hahaha
I saw Friday the 13th 3D the day it premiered. That flex is the most intrresting thing about that. Everytime a 3D gag happened it took me right out of the story because its almost like they're breaking the 4th wall to prepare us for some 3 dementional magic. I like movies i can suspend my disbelief for.
I own every one of these movies. However, the only ones that are actually 3D Blurays are Parasite, Creature from the Black Lagoon, House of Wax & Silent Madness. Now, I do have all the modern 3D movies as well. Would love to have a Jaws 3D, and Friday the 13th 3D. I love 3D, wish we would of got UHD 3D Blurays.
Any Jaws 3 blu ray sold in the US should contain the 3d version. Friday the 13th 3D unfortunately requires the purchase of the collector's box set advertising it.
There was, unfortunately, something wrong with my first DVD copy of Friday the 13th Part 3. I tried to watch the 3D version of it with the provided red & blue glasses, but it just doubled everything up. The 3D version looked better without the glasses.
I watched Jaws 3D in the theaters and it was disappointing. 3D effects weren't bad, but the story was just lame and seemed to drag. We were there for the 3D for sure. I kept the blue and red glasses for a long time, nowadays you have to recycle them.
Didn't exist during the 80's and honestly the glasses over glasses thing has made 3D very unappealing for me. But have to respect the films trying to bring the viewer in. I don't know if any VR games have tried a "live action" version of 3D where it bridges that Avatar 3D gap with horror. Given the how short it is between the trivia sections of the video. I don't think you need that tune to switch to it. Probably could just overlay it over footage during a narration.
Sadly have a friend who was there when the call came in that IMAX was stopping 3D releases. There then new Laser 3D projection system was the Best I have seen, luckily saw many movies this way which for us meant a drive to the Chinese Theater in Hollywood.....
I liked the 3D effects in Friday the 13th Part III so much I sat in the theatre and watched it three times in a row.
I love Friday part 3 it’s always been my favorite !! I saw Jaws 3D at the theater when I was a kid lol another great episode!!!

I miss those days, TV promotional 3D events or episodes, now I wish i kept those old glasses just for the memories.
We still had a black n white TV so the glasses didn't work when Count Scary showed it on channel 4 lolz
Elvira played 'The Mad Magician' starring Vincent Price on channel 9 in Los Angeles 1982. You got the glasses at 7-11.

Amityville 3D was one of the best, had some legit scares and creepy moments
My Dad made the mistake of taking a 6 year old me to Jaws 3D lol. I RAN out the theater when that severed arm cane out of the screen.
I grew up in that same small town, only in Wisconsin
I LOVED THE FORMAT OF THIS VIDEO!!! ECXELLENT JOB!

Freddy's Dead was the first 3D movie I saw in theaters (and that's what made me love horror). I was 10 lol
