WOW. The last time I saw this was probably 1991 or 1992. My mom took me to the library and we would rent movies. I'm 33 now and I still remembered the ugly duckling song word for word and its cadence. Its crazy how certain things for unknown reasons can stay with you for so long while other memories just slowly fade away. It brings me back to a time of beautiful old memories. When life was simpler, worries were minimal, and most of my family were still alive. I'd trade so much just to go back for just one day.
lol more like the spell they put on us, thinking of all the wrong crowds I was in knowing I was not part of the whole time cause I was just not with my soul tribe. I was born in 1993 this was actually the reason why my mom knew I understood emotions because I was crying.
This was my favourite out of the hallmark series. I related a lot with the ugly duckling character. I too got picked on, due to being autistic, and often felt like I didn't belong as a result. Thankfully it's not like that now, but this one never failed to make me smile in the end.
I watched this so many times. I still get the songs stuck in my head lol. Such a sad but good episode. I had the stuffed animal of him. As a mom, I found a new respect for the mama too. She loved that baby and sssshed everyone who came for him, that was her baby!
Same! I've been searching on here for years. I assumed it was from _Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre,_ but could never get this version to show up. Today, I tried again with Google: _"ugly duckling" "beside me" "to guide me"._ I had to scroll past a bunch of Donna Summer lyrics and depressing poetry. I found *just one blog* @ahl0013 where a woman typed out the entire lyrics, and talked about how much they resonated with her as a lonely child. 🎯
I remember seeing this tale at my elementary school. All of a sudden the song "on my own" ugly duckling sang popped out in my head and been searching for that scene in RUclips since i didn't recall the title. Finally found it!!! Thanks for the nostalgic memory! It's crazy how I'm about to turn 26 and this was at a corner of my memories
i'm about to turn 33. after seeing feathers multiple times at work randomly over this past year. always thought of the "birds of a feather flock together" line. didn't think of revisiting this old vhs movie until i saw a recent video being called out as the silliest goose of all the geese. i thought that's funny cause i moreso identify as the ugly duckling that actually turned out to be a swan. glad i had this movie on vhs as a kid
I super love this story!!! Been telling my 2yo daughter about it and she gets teary eyed every time. Thank God I found it! Been searching for this movie for so long. ❤️❤️❤️
To be honest what makes me most teary-eyed (as a 32 year old who watched this movie as a kid all the time) is his voice...it's always just had an impact on me like that and I've just gotten more sensitive to it as I got older.
I remember watching this in elementary school and I would cry for him. I know the moral of the story, but I would always wish one of his brothers or sisters would take up for him but that’s not how it’s written. I love how the rabbit took him in and was a true friend to him. Loved this movie. I’m 31 now. 🦆 🦢
A VERY prominent voice of my childhood! Buster Bunny, Cow and Chicken, the Red Guy with No Pants, I.R. Baboon, Ed and Bev Bighead, and numerous others!
I had to search this, to listen to the ugly duckling song, which i still remember watching as a kid, 6 years old, in a boarding school missing home. Thank you uploader
Even watching this as a kid I remember being baffled by the massive plot hole of an entire bunch of ducks and geese having NO IDEA of what a cygnet looks like. And then being annoyed by the ending where none of them had to face any kind of shame for how they had treated him
I believe there are some versions of the story where some reconciliation is had between the ugly "duckling" and some of the ducks who made fun of him (along with him getting to see his "mother" again). Yeah, there's nothing punitive about it for the mean ducks, but at least there's some closure. Btw, *I* was guilty of being baffled by the title of the story itself. As a kid, I thought the title actually meant that he was a duck. With that in my mind, when I saw the ending, I figured that some ducks just got lucky and turned into swans as adults. Thankfully I figured out what was actually going on later, but I still shake my head when I realize how mistaken I was!
"birds of a feather flock together." how i remember that alone song he sings. in the end he gets 3 lovely swan gal pals to be the leader of. truly a happy ending. what a lucky duck 😉
When I was a kid, I found this VHS in our collection. I don't think my parents knew we had it. I put it on and well, it was a cartoon about a kid's story, so I figured it was fine, and added it to the "watch when bored" list. One day when my parents were painting the TV room, my brother and I (set up in the next room with the TV) were watching this and my mom started freaking out when she heard "Your children sure are lovely. All except that UGLY one!" and told us to turn it off and never watch it again. That was about 20 years ago now.
I remember this too when I was a little kid. We watched with my little brother, he was 2 and I was 5 years old. We watch this is in Hungarian dub with a small CRT TV and VHS. Today I am 30 years old, remembering the good old days.
I really appreciate how much the gator actors put into their parts. It's like, they probably got paid pennies for this production, but they went hard. I remembered the songs but I didn't realize how funny this was as a kid! I always felt bad for Ugly, but now I can't help but laugh at "Let's join em!"
I remember back in 99 or 2000 i think, my kid cousins were watching this. They were 8 or 9 years old and at the end they were both in tears. So touched by the story and the sad song. I teased them so much about it even now that they r in their 30s.
And Buster Bunny from "Tiny Toons," the Bigheads from "Rocko's Modern Life," Cow and Chicken and the Red Guy With No Pants, Ickis from "AAAHH! Real Monsters," T-Bone from "Swat Kats," and many others. Charlie Adler is so distinctive it's impossible to miss him.
I was probably just 7yrs old and one Sunday i watched the Shoemaker and the Elves episode on cartoon network. I did not understand English that time but used to watch cartoon network a lot. But the end credit music was stuck in my head since then. After 27 years I found it again

Well it’s like what Butch Hartman once explained, no matter how long ago these inspirations came from, they’ll always be part of you.
Dear God....pretty identical story over here. (33)

I’m dying at the guy that went up to her like “your children are all great except that ugly one” 😂😂 like the audacity
I remember this on VHS when I was a kid.

The "on my own" song has haunted me for YEARS!!!!
Edit after watching: the gator duet is a banger too

I'm damn sure one of the duckings with the stripes is voiced by Nancy Cartwright. It sounds like Nelson from the simpsons lol.
Just looked it up, apparently it is lol
It does sounds like Nelson Muntz from season 3.
I wished they would revive this Hanna-Barbera classic into a series.

This music is called Fairydust of Fantasy of Vol 2 from Killer Tracks somewhere in Timeless Tales from Hallmark the trailer.
