You know it's pretty interesting seeing a princess go through PTSD as she lives with the king/prince. It does provide a bit of drama since she does want to be with him but somethings, even little things, could trigger her horrific ordeal with her father. Glad she got a happy end, she deserves it.

I’m not sure if this was the intent but I thought the story could be a metaphor for sexual assault. Some children are assaulted by relatives and even their own parents.
I really like the themes of double lives and transformation. I like how she was stooped over and downcast while in the fur coat, but bright and upright while in the dresses (which were fantastic). This is also one of the darker stories of this series :o such a scary opening! If only we had the original audio tracks!
It is more interesting to see someone being realistic by a trauma, most in fairy tales these days wanna make people so perfect. In this story you can see fairy tale person is just as human you are when princess was suffering PTSD from her father who became mentally unwell trying force her into sick thing.

Yeah, it pleasantly surprised me how well they did it. Even utilizing Alea feeling triggered by happy moments or memories, I kinda wished more people acknowledged it more but I’m happy it was handled pretty well as well as her getting a happy ending. 😌
The coat of many colors is almost similar to the donkey skin story. The father of that princess tried to marry her too and she didn't trust anyone at first either. Every time I hear stories like this one, it breaks my heart.
And when she put her ring in the soup, that's a scene that reminds me of a scene from the story called cap o' redishies. It's a tail from "animated tales of the world."
Yeah, Donkeyskin, the She-Bear, Allerleirauh/Thousand-fur (this one, The Coat of Many Colors)... there’s a number of fairy tales like this and you’re right, they are sad, but it’s also oddly comforting to have stories like this, since there are girls and boys out there dealing with stuff like this. It’s good to have a story that can give them hope too.

It had never occurred to me at 8 years old that a father could want to marry his own daughter, thankfully my dad wasnt a creep but I did look at him differently for a while haha. But the rest of the movie is great, so after a while I just fast forwarded the VHS tape until she was free of him and all the trauma was over

That's why it's a little bit darker compared to the Disney versions. Most of the original stories of the Fairy tales are usually aim towards adults.

The stories were bleak because they reflected a bleak world. For example, this story has a father going insane and seeking to marry his daughter because people _do_ go insane and some parents _do_ abuse their children. But the protagonists find happy endings because they are good have faith that things will work out--in fact, the Grimm Brothers sometimes changed the stories' endings to be _happier._ Judging the Brothers Grimm to be bad people just because some characters (especially villainous characters) do bad things is a shallow, anti-intellectual take on stories as a whole.

I think I figured out why the prince doesn't mind doing manual labor. He mentioned that both of his parents are deceased, so it's possible that his parents died before they could've fully enforce rules of being royalty into his life. That being said, he was most likely influenced surrounded by the behavior of common folks instead.
After all her suffering, it's so rewarding seeing the princess laughing and hugging and cooking with her husband 💕 it honestly makes me a little weepy 😅

Actually the king wife before she died ask the king to promise to marry a women who is more beautiful than her ( i dont know the reason for that request but maybe she want to make difficult for him to find a cruel step mother for the daughter) after many years searching he couldn't find some one matching his latest wife beauty except his daughter. Of course the daughter ask a fairy what to do so first ask adress like stars than second asked a dress like moon after that a dress like sun so she thought it will be hard mission for her father but every time she ask for something he did it. The father have a donky who loves very much because if feed her nice food she'll give you gold. So the fairy told her to ask the father to kill the precious donkey and give her the skin to make a dress which he did. So finally she decided to take her things and run of course wearing the donkey skin which making everyone mocking her. You know the rest and the king have mother who refuse to marry this dirty girl but he still want her. In the wedding her father apologized for his insane behavior and they lived happily ever after . I notice they change it from donkey to dogs/fox. I heard its french fairy tale originally. 🥰
