I know someone who was an ugly duckling in real life. They were bullied, and teased by everyone while growing up. Just because they looked different, and didn't fit what was "normal". Looking at them now, this person turned so beautiful. Some stories are real...
If you want to go into countries Estonia is the ugly duckling (the nerdy girl with glasses that gets picked on) but in reality is a swan (holy shit mode without glasses)
A girl in my middle school kind of fit this mold. She was overweight and had some issues with acne in middle school, but during the summer lost a bunch of weight and found a way to clear up her skin. When we started our first year of high school she was gorgeous. What I loved about her is she was still well aware of all the people who had treated her like shit for years and when guys started noticing her she gave them the cold shoulder. It was fun to watch.

Sadly this thing happens quite a lot in the bird kingdom. Years ago one of our hens hatched mostly white chicks, but one was black. She HATED it and kept pecking his head. She would have killed it eventually. We didn't know what to do. My aunt even put a bit of flour on it to make it white, but no use his mom chased him even more. Grandma came with the right solution (weird, but it worked) : she gave the hen a drop of brandy. As the hen was all dizzy and mellow, we put the chick under her. She accepted the poor chick from then on. I still have no explanation for the hen's strange rejection.

If you have seen the Disney Silly Symphony short (1931 and 1939 especially), you see how the story turns the emotion to it. The 1939 short is very emotional, very accurate to the story with another kind of beautiful ending. Instead of growing up, he actually belong to the swan family. It brought the tears to me every time.
This story is more true than people want to believe. The amount of indifference and cruelty people have toward others that are considered less attractive is staggering and often subtle.
Anderson's distinction was that he brought literacy and authorship to the tales he chose to retell. He went beyond translating old fireside folklore to the page and brought his own descriptions, characterization, & themes to the material. This sets him apart from the likes of the Grimms & Perrault. He also laced original gems like "Ugly Duckling" into the rep - furthering him as an artist rather than transcriber.

I love these! Hans, Mother G. and the Grimm Bros.' tales and poems were a staple (although watered down a bit-LOT) as a kid and Uggo here was one of my favorites, the perfect glow-up!
There was a popular fan theory for the show Once Upon A Time, that the main character, Emma Swan was The Ugly Duckling. Every character but her and her son Henry had a fairy tale or folk tale counter identity. The writers would say that they were only characters without one. But eventually they wrote it into the show, confirming it towards the end, because it so well. Not because she was mistreated fro being ugly, but grew up, lonely not knowing who she really was. She finds out that she's Snow White and Charming's daughter, therefore a princess but also "The Savior" everyone form her land has been waiting for. Also, throughout the course of the show she finds out who she is as a person, and always was deep down all along. That and and her last name was "Swan" after all. :)

I have a children's book with HC Anderson. I'm Danish, only found your channel today. And I have not known any other version than this... This version is in 2 books I have. Along with the original snow queen and The little mermaid.... This story has always been inspirering to me and I got an B+ analysing it for my Danish Exam
I remember all of this as that was the version that my parents read to me as a child. We had a big book of Hans Christian Andersens stories. My favorite story by Hans Christian Andersen was and still is The snow queen and yes I heard the full original as a child.
@@detested2022 My favorite Fairytales are Red Riding Hood Goldilocks and The Three Bears The Wolf and The Three Little Pigs and The Wolf and The Seven Kids.
Enjoyed this videoI liked that Hans shared his own story through the book. Its sad what he went through. I'm glad he didn't give up his dream of writing.
Schools are always like that, past and present. Either your considered unpopular and are constantly teased, or are popular and have many 'friends'. Not real friends, most popular people I've seen find out the hard way after they graduate that their friends only hung out with them because they were popular. Suggestion: Home school your kids, they don't need to go through that shit.
John Solo If you can find any information about The Gingerbread Man that no one knows about. You should do a messed up origins video of that tale if you find anything.
I own a movie of Hans Christian Anderson’s stories. I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. The Ugly Duckling was the very first story and I remember it being so sad. Then there was one about a mouse and sausage, can’t really remember what it was called, but there were plenty good stories in this movie.
When I was a kid I always related to this story, it was my absolute favourite of all of his fairy tales. I related to the ugly duckling and all my life had hope that one day I could be a swan. As I grew up and garnered both experience and wisdom, I’ve realized that all of us are swans, just some of us don’t know it, or don’t want to believe it. There something beautiful about everything unique and beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. :)
Yikes, this tale hit home for me tbh... I've always had issues with my body but I realize that body image doesn't matter looks-wise... I just want to be healthy, and I will never let people get to me for being a bit chubby...
After watching several of your videos, I'm starting to realize that the two huge storybooks my grandma read me and my sister were filled with Brothers Grimm stories that just had really childish illustrations, not the sugar-coated Disney books

“Mama Duck is a little surprised at her new, ugly son” I died 😂 😂 😂
At the end when he bowed his head and said "Kill me" I teared up
Love ruining my childhood
Actually, it's not ruining mine... Must be because now I know why Hans Christian Andersen wrote a fable about bullying.
I didn't have a good one so I'm use to it! 👍😎
Aidan Humphrey masochistic but true 😂
Yeah we love it guess what i do in my free time
This story is more true than people want to believe.
Wilhelm Grimm and Perault absolutely brought their own style and themes to their stories
To quote Anderson, “Life is the most beautiful fairy tale.”
"And when you look at him at the angle he's actually not that ugly"
Okay, me
The Ugly Duckling was one of my favourite childhood stories. You got me interested already.
Mine as well, had a beautiful pen illustrated book of it. Although, like Jon, I didn't remember everyone being so cruel.
The Ending of the story basically:
AND YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, LIFE COULD BE BEAUTIFUL! YOU HOPE, YOU DREAM, YOU PRAY, AND YOU GET YOUR WAY!
R/B The Toku Hufflepuff I don't know whether to love you or hate you from posting this comment XD JD took it too seriously when veronica said set this dump ablaze so yea don't know whether I should love or hate you for this but I'm choosing to love you XDD I love Heathers so much !!!XD
Ask me how it feels looking like hell on wheels. My God, it's beautiful! And when you're beautiful It's a beautiful frickin' day!
Musicals are getting really popular lately
Really?
R/B The Toku Hufflepuff Omg i love heathers!! I was so happy when i found this comment!
Person:So are you gonna right a autobiography?
Hans Christian Andersan:I already did. The ugly duckling.
Me: :O he's a duck!

8:35 I know this was supposed to be sad because this story hit me with the feels but I died when he told them to kill him
That sounds like me as a kid, bullied, beaten, made a laughing stock. My childhood was horrible at best, thank you.
Ahmar Wolf I’m so sorry.
Am sooooo sorry.😭😭
I am so sorry.
You're welcome! Wait wha-
@Carlos Domenech salty?
Hans Christian Anderson had issues. Deep issues.
Deep parent issues?
FINALLY I'M PART OF THE GOAL LIKERS! I recently watched your video and whenever you said that you hope of 3k or 5k likes, it's always past 10k likes when I like the video.
Gadis Rima Astari me too lol 🙏
thanks for liking! :)
This was one of my favorites stories growing up, a lot of life lessons. ❤️
I sure forgot the lil thing was a swan until you finished it lol but I love this story so much cause it really is relatable for those who are bullied and go through hardships throughout life to know that eventually the bad doesn’t last forever
Dude I'm so glad you're getting sponsors and moving up... You definitely deserve it!
Hey thanks m8 :)
This story always made me cry. Thank you John. Have a great day.
Was there anything messed up about the ant and the grasshopper? If there is, would you be willing to do a video about it?
I love how you pull science, psychology, and whatever other measurable intelligencia are relevant into your delivery of your messed up origins. Thank you for the time and effort you put into researching these literary gems, and for explaining them in such a relatable fashion.
6:19 nah he didn’t find a shanty house, he found the weasleys house😂
good one
Oh snap was not expecting a video today :O nice
I sort of feel like the Ugly Duckling 🦢 at my school, I’ve had to deal with a kinda mean teacher and I have groups of kids who make mean jokes out of weird words I say. So I really relate to Uggo. Side note, thanks for calling him Uggo, it makes him feel so cute.
Hey! I hope you know that you are beautiful as you are, and the people who make fun of you are just sad and pathetic. ❤
@Davis Villanueva lol
Maggie Hydeck me too, don’t worry they be mean to you u be mean back. That’s how I get through it
I kinda hate having my childhood ruined. But at the same time...I love it😁
No the moral is don’t judge people because they look different be nice and kind and don’t kick people that’s the moral

I became every emotional when I heard about this story. It reminds me so much of my elementary years when I was bullied by other students because they judged me before they even know me
"He bows his head and literally says *'Kill Me'* "
why did I laugh at this? It was just unexpected and I laughed.
The author of the ugly duckling has a sense of humor
"Kill me"
100% got that like for standing up to bird bullies 👊🏼👍🏼
He bowed his head and said "kill me"
that hit me harder than i expected to the point I chuckled a Little
The most beautiful origin story yet by far! Way to go Author.
Yeah litle reallity check swans are not just big they are said to be so strong they can break a mans arm so not a very good target for a bully
Can you start doing "Mother Goose" stories. I know alot of them are dark and morbid.
I actually left another video to click on yours!
I have a children's book with HC Anderson. I'm Danish, only found your channel today. And I have not known any other version than this...
This version is in 2 books I have. Along with the original snow queen and The little mermaid....
This story has always been inspirering to me and I got an B+ analysing it for my Danish Exam
This story made me think, you don’t have to be like everyone else just to be excepted and it reminds me of my childhood
I remember all of this as that was the version that my parents read to me as a child. We had a big book of Hans Christian Andersens stories. My favorite story by Hans Christian Andersen was and still is The snow queen and yes I heard the full original as a child.
Can you do a messed up origins on Tinkerbell?
That's a good one. Well idea, don't believe i saw that video on his page.

Who here are part of the solo Fam 🤘😂 that immediately click the video as soon it was uploaded?
John Solo
If you can find any information about The Gingerbread Man that no one knows about. You should do a messed up origins video of that tale if you find anything.

Don't we all
I own a movie of Hans Christian Anderson’s stories.
For the first time in my life I am early for a Jon Solo video
wtf was that?
"well if you look at the right angle he´s cute"
Me: I’m just gonna watch this
Also me: I just watched a children’sstory
Beautiful story. Amazingly delivered Mr Solo 🙏🏾
Ugly duckling is not creepy, it is really beautiful and wise story about accepting yourself for who you are.

I really hate bullying and I admire those people that puts up with it and keeps moving on finding everyday who they are
"Kill me." -Uggo the Swan
Messed up origins of the story I used to relate to child... and still relate to as an adult😅🙁
