Stuff from the spin-offs and non-mainline material have little acknowledgement but when they’re factored into the discussion, this battle becomes a foregone conclusion Also, when looking back in retrospect, I’m surprised I doubted Bowser winning. He has come back from death on so many occasions - of course he had this in the bag

True, but Pure Hearts also aren't weapons. They're incredibly powerful, but only for defensive and support, and only against very specific threats.
