Finally a tutorial I can follow! I've been searching for a long time, trying to find a video that explains the basic box building process. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
OMG Maymay. Super Cute box and WOOO HOOO you really outdid yourself and to do the math, cut and create. I mean Seriously girl you nailed it!! I’m horrible with math……..horrible at cutting on a paper trimmer. I mean yes I papercut all the time but……!!!!!i eventually get my cut but…..!!!! 😱😡🤣😂🤣😂 You didn’t confuse….you are guilty, though, guilty of amuse!! I’m so,proud of you OMG designing a box and paper trimming!! Thanks for your Outstanding Tutorial and sharing your Tremendously Terrific, Tricks & Techniques!! YOU so ROCK!!! 🐍 you do light up our lives from coast to coast and all around the. World kiddo. Just keep on Keepin’. You are awe inspiring!!! Joan Smith
Excellent video. The only thing I could suggest is taping or gluing the two 'spare' tabs at the bottom together (the ones you say you often cut off). Doing that would give the contents of the box a little extra support underneath, and help keep the box shaped correctly.
Great description Maymay. I work at a the ups store and sometimes we need to make a box. It’s one of the hardest things I have to teach some new employees. Sometimes we just take a small box and open it up so you can see how a box is made.
This was great, start with the object, and just build around it from there. I am trying to make furniture for a dollhouse, and I can see how this will be useful to make beds, refrigerators, cabinets, etc. (gets tricky if I want a cabinet door or drawer that works, but that's later)
My favorite part of crafting is making boxes for my projects and I draw all my boxes out before assembly. I also keep my sketches in a notebook 🤭. It helps! TFS 💕💕💕
You can sandwich the two bottom/side tabs between the two other front/back flaps so they don't stock up and get in the way. That would also give the box extra stability.😊
This makes it all so very simple. I love your instructions because they are so very simple when you show how to make things. You make the Impossible Possible! Thanks!!
Thank you, Maymay! This is exactly what I need to make boxes of any size that I may need! This is one of the most handy and helpful videos yet, and that is saying a lot for all of your great videos!!! BTW, I also score from the right for those tight score marks.
Oh my goodness! I am not even close to to getting this . I have been trying to do this with a hand sanitizer bottle.😂 absolutely no luck. Wow! Could you do one with a small hand sanitizer bottle? 😂I forgot my bottom. I finally got it!!
Same process I have used for years. For me, it’s just easier to make the long side the flap so it’s easier to decorate, if possible. Thanks for sharing!! PS…. I do use eighths and sixteenths in my projects. Love the tiny edging it gives.
I know I've heard you say you don't do math. DO NOT sell yourself short. Math is on display here. Thanks for the concise and accurate description of how to lay out a box. Bravo! You're a great teacher.
I have done this for all projects that have measurements for SOO long... thank you for making it so clear that I have a reference to send people to that is already done. It seems like no matter how many times I take photos or show people that they just HAVE to see a top down video and watch it. :D xoxo you're a star, lady. an absolute star!
This was awesome Maymay! I am a visual learner and this has helped me a great deal. Will be making a template like the one you just made and change the dimensions for practice. You have done a great job in explaining this this type of box. I'd put a thumb notch to make it easier to open. Be well & be safe.
good tutorial. I feel empowered to go forth and make a box. The one thing that would take your visual to the next level, on the paper with measurements, put an x through the sections that will be removed. The wood working people do that when measuring and cutting wood.
Crystal clear, and concise. Bravo, and thank you! Sadly I don't have that handy dandy scoring board you used, but I do have a Cricut... so after watching this I can see that I NEED to get a scorer wheel tool for it! :D
Oh my, you make the process so clear! I can visualize things in 3-D pretty well, and follow patterns that other people create, but creating one myself always seemed like a lot of work to figure out. Now I see that it is fairly simple, if I follow a process like yours. Thank you for sharing this.
I stumbled upon this video as I research cutting machines for beginners before I buy one. After watching this, I just want to make boxes! 😂 This looks so very satisfying!
Thank you for this most informative video, MayMay. Like others, I will definitely have to watch this one a few times and take notes. I like to take little gifts to folks who help us (like our dental hygienist), and this is the perfect personal touch. Your instructions are very clear, but I will have to try a few boxes myself to really understand what's going on with the math!! Actually, it's the cuts that baffle me, when to angle, when to snip, when to delete a section, so this video will be a wonderful tool for me.
Thank you thank you thank you!! Spent days watching videos and spent hours last night making a box for specific item. I see numbers and just cant think haha. I feel confident after watching this tutorial that I can make any size box! Great tutorial!! New follower :).
Great tutorial with verbal and visual cues!!! So completely explained!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I appreciate all of your tutorials. You don’t spend endless commentary, straight to the point. Thank you 😊
I'm a mathematician specializing in geometry and I think you did a fantastic job explaining that.
Like this -- it IS as simple as measure, sketch, and create a sample/test product: any size / any item. Nice to see this.
Excellent video. The only thing I could suggest is taping or gluing the two 'spare' tabs at the bottom together (the ones you say you often cut off). Doing that would give the contents of the box a little extra support underneath, and help keep the box shaped correctly.
It also helps me, personally, to draw the whole (outer) rectangle on my rough sketch, and shade in the bits that get cut off.
I do that, too, as a reminder of the cut-away spaces.
You couldn't have made that more simple. Thank you.
THIS WAS GREAT....I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW TO FIGURE THE MATH FOR SMALL GIFTS THAT I GIVE IN A BOX. NOW I KNOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

That's awesome Maymay. Thank you!
Maymay, you say all the time that you’re bad at math but that is not true and this video is proof! Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us! ❤
Thank you for sharing this secret!
My favorite part of crafting is making boxes for my projects and I draw all my boxes out before assembly. I also keep my sketches in a notebook 🤭. It helps! TFS 💕💕💕
That made things easier...thank you!
Easy peasy breezy!!! Thnx!!!!
Oh my..This is such an easier way than I have been doing..I would love to see making a bigger box and how to connect more than one sheet..Thank you!
Thank you! It finally makes sense 😊

Thank you, so much for this!!!
Thanks! I needed to see this as a refresher.
I am so grateful that you showed this to us. ❤
This is a great tutorial! thank you!
This is fine if you want a one sheet but how about making a box with a lid how do you measure to make a top and a bottom box.
Have you ever watched "The Paper Pixie" (Julie) she's got lots of videos for 3D projects.
I have done this for all projects that have measurements for SOO long... thank you for making it so clear that I have a reference to send people to that is already done. Thank you. This takes some mystery out of boxes.

Perfect! I’ve been trying to figure a formula for making boxes!!! Thank you!!!!!
This was a great tutorial! I also learned several years ago how to make a box out of a greeting card! It's great for small items like earrings etc.
Maymay!!! You are amazing. I love your work.
Very clear. Thank you ❤
Brilliant, thank you x
This instructional video was perfectly taught. Perfect.
My head just exploded. WOW thank you.
Thanks a bunch!

Thank you so much Maymay. I needed this video as I make lots of gifts etc and spend lots on little boxes. Now I can make my own. Yayyy. 😊
Wonderful!!
Excellent tutorial.....thanx ! You are the best ....always explaining everything with so much love ❤️
I stumbled upon this video as I research cutting machines for beginners before I buy one. After watching this, I just want to make boxes! 😂 This looks so very satisfying!
For items about this size this is a great use of paper- it looks like you would be able to get 2 boxes out of a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper
Wow! Thank you
Perfect! Off to try- not mathy either
Awesome!!
WOW! Thank You so very much for this . Great information. I get so frustrated with this, now it will be so much easier

This is totally amazing! Thank you! I can't wait to try this, making boxes have been challenging for me, but I'm not giving up!
I did it for playing cards that were 3-1/2x2-1/4 and the stack of 6 pieces was 1-/4" high. My CS ended-up being 4-./4x5-3/4. TFS, Nicole
