I don't think I've ever seen this on cactus and succulents. Only herbaceous plants fortunately . And they never have been a problem here. I think the only other beasties we've had problems with besides the big 3 ,spidermites, scale, and mealies are, white fly, aphids and of course rodents. Thanks for the heads up on these guys Lyn!! It's always good to know about these threats!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!!✌️💖🌵🌷🌴🌸🌿🌻🍀🌾💐🌱🌹🌳😃👍

I really detest thrips , I’d managed to get through the last decade without too much trouble from them. Last year though they just went full out warfare on my houseplants and my greenhouse. So it’s good to have a refresher on what to look for on my cacti if the little darlings turn up again.
The amount of cell death they cause when they eat really shocked me, total devastation for some plants that were already stressed.
Hungry little beasts that they are .

Trips also love to attack blossoms. If you've ever had an African violet where the Flowers turn wet and wither long before they should, then the petioles turn wet and drop off one at a time until they are all gone and the plant dies, the chances are good that you have thrips.

Thrips are such a nuisance and they love succulents and can fly from plant to plant. One extra annoyance with them is that they lay their eggs inside the plant tissue so even when you get rid of the adults they hatch out as teeny grubs and go to town all over again. They can sometimes be recognised by the blistering they cause on cacti which later dies and also the black marks from their poop. Another name for them is "thunder flies".
