The fact that Kratos lost some of the bass in his voice when he saw Zeus speaks volumes about his trauma Edit: Did not expect 5.3K likes. That's a record for me on RUclips 😂
Most certainly. There is so much lore in this crossing of Greek and Norse mythology that it's great that Mimir is able to storytell and world build based off of those myths. And throughout GOW4, Mimir just builds up and builds up Odin and Thor. That's how good he was - he got everyone looking forward to fighting guys who weren't even in that game. He also gave something that was lacking in the GOW franchise, a little bit of levity. And it allowed some character building too. Kratos for the most part is the silent strong father, especially in GOW4, but Mimir gave his son someone to talk to, so we as the player could hear it. And Kratos began having a companion whom he could talk to as well, something he rarely did in his earlier games other than shout and make threats. By Ragnarok, Kratos is more open as a character, and as a father. Mimir helped that. And that is how you do a proper character. Not only does he have his own stories, but he helps build and advance the stories of others, benefiting the whole thing.
Mimir is a huge part of the growth and character development that happens though-out the Norse saga, and without him idk if Kratos would’ve been the understanding and loving father he is at the end of Ragnarok!
Couldn’t agree more brother, making videos like this praising the writing, graphics and art direction of this amazing franchise is an absolute pleasure to make, and getting to interact with like-minded god of war fans is the best part!
I gotta say as someone who started the GoW series with this game it somehow never came to my mind that he 'hates' himself and his boy for being gods. It was an eye opener to understand the charekter I played for more than 20h at that point
Thats a fresh perspective that I'm sure many people have had while playing this one bro, I'm a huge fan of the old games, but GoW 2018 will always be my favourite!
I love how Christopher Judge made Kratos sound more like his previous voice actor( I can't remember for the life of me) when he sees "Zeus" in Helheim. Its a neat detail i saw on rewatching the scene, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it.
I believe the original voice actor for Kratos was Terrence Carson, who's actually known for being the voice of Mace Windu in the Star Wars Clone Wars animated series!
The fact he wanted to go to that place where hellheim zeus was clearly shows he wanted to finish the job before mimir told him it was an illusion. Kratos has some bollocks
I think he's afraid of feeling like a hypocrite, as he's trying to tell Atreus to be better but he himself killed his own father, the same way that Baldur wishes to kill his mother.
The thing that gets me is the ?!? in the subtitles from Mimir. It's 100% deserved and I believe even technically correct, but it's so odd to see that punctuation outside of extremely exaggerated comics.
Don't mistake me brother. From what i heard, the pantheon had it coming. But still a bit to take in. I knew you hate gods, but you really can't stay away from them, can't you?
I feel like it’s only in the Norse saga that Kratos can take a look at himself and realise that he literally killed his own father and felt no remorse over it, which I reckon haunts the Hel out of him!
I think I love when Kratos says, "Do NOT call me that..." because The Ghost of Sparta is what everyone used to taunt him with. He was the last of the Spartans who killed his own family and was forced to wear their ashes and the Gods of Olympus never let him forget it
I really wish that part could've been explored more for the story. Like making kratos go through that area for something important and you get revisted by his biggest past moments
You literally go to that section of Hel not *that* much longer in the story. When Baldur grabs Atreus and tries to escape to Asgard. That's where you end up.
Yeah Kratos was 39 in GOW 3 and 900+ in GOW 2018, never understood the huge gap knowing that the egyptian, aztec, celtic and shinto pantheons still exist all together
@@tetrodotoxin99 I think it has something to do with the respective time periods when these gods were worshipped by many people, like Ancient Greece is like primarily between 500-100 BC, where as the Viking Age when Norse Mythology was at its peak was between 794-1066 AD!
You know, there’s a chance he has another son actually running around whatever left of grease the one that may have been conceived when he was with Aphrodite

Within the lore they established there was so many crazy paths they could take, while I absolutely adore Ragnarok, there’s a lot about it that I personally wish happened differently
Probably because if he went there, he wouldn’t have ever been able to come back out of it. It’s clear that Helheim doesn’t just torment you physically, it breaks your soul/mind by showing you all the worst things you’ve done and make you relive them. If Kratos had gone there, he would have found himself pulled back into an eternal cycle of anger, despair and self-hatred.

It actually harkens back to Stig and David's original ending for God of War 3 that I covered in my God of War Series Ranking video, but basically after Kratos defeats Zeus the gods from other Religions/Pantheons would all get involved and destroy each other and it's this war that leads to mortals no longer believing in the Gods!

Every time I play GOW3 it cracks me up how he yells Zeus lol
@@lordology4815 He's so hammy, I love it.
The fact that Kratos lost some of the bass in his voice when he saw Zeus speaks volumes about his trauma
Edit: Did not expect 5.3K likes. That's a record for me on RUclips 😂
mans been through alot
@@RAi_Oh agreed
Such a great detail and it was performed beautifully by our boy Christopher Judge!
@@lordology4815 agreed, brother. So good.
I hear it and it sounds sickening
(In a good way)
Mimir was one of the best additions to the series. Hands down.
Couldn't agree more!
I feel like they could've added a whole hour or so to the game just by Mimir going "I'm dangling from the hip of..." and Kratos going "No."
Good point lol
"bollocks, brother, respectfully, bollocks." I love Mimir
Mimir is a huge part of the growth and character development that happens though-out the Norse saga, and without him idk if Kratos would’ve been the understanding and loving father he is at the end of Ragnarok!
This scene gave me an adrenaline Spike. Kratos was about to revert to his old self to part 2 his father.
After GoW3, Zeus wasn't getting back up lol
Dude I'd die from excitement but that would ruin he's character devel wouldn't it.
The slow realization always gets me.
Must’ve felt pretty proud dangling from the hip of the ghost of Sparta!
To be fair he probably had to work backwards from the list of Zeus's kids.
Probably took a while to go over em all.
These games have been so masterfully done. Endless amounts of praise to the writers/developers- you guys & gals did a phenomenal job.
Couldn’t agree more brother, making videos like this praising the writing, graphics and art direction of this amazing franchise is an absolute pleasure to make, and getting to interact with like-minded god of war fans is the best part!
I love the absolute hatred Kratos has when Mimir calls him the Ghost of Sparta.
It gives me chills everytime!
"Do NOT call me that!"
all this wholesome content is making me want to play the god of war games just to experience the full range of emotions that come along with it
You will NOT be disappointed in that department!!
Will they work on ps4 though? I guess they can be downloaded?
I got the Greek games on PS3 as a sort of virtual console. So they are playable, just on older hardware.
@@lordology4815 Thank you, I can't believe I forgot him when he played my favorite star wars character.
I love how Mimir tells him to never go there and he in fact never goes there
Hahahahah!
God of war 2018 is such a damn masterpiece. Ragnarok is phenomenal too but something about this game is special.
Couldn't agree more bro!
I looked at the thumbnail and thought there was a mod that inserted a modern tank.
I can't unsee it now lol
Anyone noticed how that face kept staring dead at Kratos until he says “my father”.
He had to break the tension lol
The fact he wanted to go to that place where hellheim zeus was clearly shows he wanted to finish the job before mimir told him it was an illusion.
Kratos has some bollocks
I think he's afraid of feeling like a hypocrite, as he's trying to tell Atreus to be better but he himself killed his own father, the same way that Baldur wishes to kill his mother.
The thing that gets me is the ?!? in the subtitles from Mimir. It's 100% deserved and I believe even technically correct, but it's so odd to see that punctuation outside of extremely exaggerated comics.
That's a good point actually lol, definitely helps in adding to Mimir's shock!
Mimir tried to give Kratos a free therapy session but he’d rather kill all gods instead.
This is the way lol
Don't know why, but hearing someone say "Respectfully bollocks" is really funny to me. Maybe it's the Scottish accent.
The accent makes it way better!
“It’s all connected, man!” Is the most memorable line Mimir has for me, and it has nothing to do with what he says, but everything with how he says it
Having a drink with Mimir at the pub and chatting about stories and what not would be so sick lol
Mirmir sounding a lot like a game theorist for a minute
Hahahahah very true!
Best part iirc is this later leads into the “Boy! Listen close” speech where Kratos admits his past

I actually already made a video about that scene in particular!! Such an awesome moment!

I love how Mimir becomes such a dad in this one line. You can tell the VA is a father XD
Very true!
I’m dangling from the hips of the bloody ghost of Sparta!
I think it's the only appropriate reaction lol
"You will tell him nothing"
"I won't, because he needs to hear it from YOUR mouth, when the time is right"
Mimir is literally his 2nd father lol
Do not call me THAT
Don't mistake me brother. From what i heard, the pantheon had it coming. But still a bit to take in. I knew you hate gods, but you really can't stay away from them, can't you?
"Bollocks brother, respectfully bollocks"
Is a line that I am stealing
Mimir is always calling out Kratos on his bullshit lol
The way Kratos spoke when he said "zeus". his voice sounded so broken
I feel like it’s only in the Norse saga that Kratos can take a look at himself and realise that he literally killed his own father and felt no remorse over it, which I reckon haunts the Hel out of him!
kratos : what is that place?
young kratos : ZOOS! **starts running towards him**
Funny you should comment this:

It’s all connected man!
It sure is bro, so glad santa monica connected to the beloved OG trilogy!

“Respectfully, bullocks.” I think I’m borrowing that line.
I've been using it for years hahaha!
I think I love when Kratos says, "Do NOT call me that..." because The Ghost of Sparta is what everyone used to taunt him with. He was the last of the Spartans who killed his own family and was forced to wear their ashes and the Gods of Olympus never let him forget it
Thats spot on bro!
"Im dangling from the hip of the bloody ghost of sparta"
"DO NOT CALL ME THAT" best part lol
@@UziMurderDrones3732 he says it with such conviction! 😂
@@lordology4815 ikr 🤣🤣
Having kratos carry a severed talking head around was a genius decision
Couldn't agree more!
Mimir is such a fucking bro
We could all use a bro like Mimir!
“Never go there”
“It’s just an illusion”
These lines contradict and it bothered me immediately.
Most people would choose an illusion over reality sadly.
The way he says “Zeus” and “my father” you hear the pain
It's the reason why it's one of my favourite moments from this monumental game!
I really wish that part could've been explored more for the story. Like making kratos go through that area for something important and you get revisted by his biggest past moments
we got valhalla for that 😅
You literally go to that section of Hel not *that* much longer in the story. When Baldur grabs Atreus and tries to escape to Asgard. That's where you end up.
"I'm dangling from the hip of the bloody Ghost of Sparta." lmfao I will never forget that line.
Underrated as hell!
Mimir speaking like a high Jamaican 1:36
Never noticed that before lol
The bit about hating parts of himself and that bleeding over into unintentionally hating those parts that his child inherited is so real
Breaking that cycle would be so difficult, it's what makes the journey to the highest peak in the nine realms so meaningful!
Crazy to think that what happened in Greece was a looong time ago, almost like old legends to the norse gods
Mimir saying far far enough longer and then he end it with very well and fair enough 😂
You know, there’s a chance he has another son actually running around whatever left of grease the one that may have been conceived when he was with Aphrodite
That would be cool if they featured his ‘other’ son against Atreus!
The way this game keeps us hooked with the constant dialogues of the lore is so so good. Man, just listening to the tales while sprinting/on the boat is pure immersion. Currently playing and absolutely loving it
My favorite parts of the game are easily the awesome dialogue, lore and stories!
I don't blame kratos for hating all gods I'm the same way but he needs to forgive himself at some point after everything he's been through I think he's earned it
He will never think that way but moving on and finding some inner peace is something I think he achieves at the end of Ragnarök.
"It's all connected, man!"
Said Mimir whilst taking a fat dub
Hahahaha!
They should've shown or atleast talked more about the damned bridge
another wasted opportunity of ragnarok
i thought there was just like the City of Hel down there, the permanent home for the dead and surely the living dont wanna stay there
@@Hollowfication96 Well thats kind of true but considering the valkyries are back with their actual selves the spirit worlds are in control. Except the Garm incident
I think the whole Garm incident was their way of finishing of that story and Hræsvelgr was supposed to be a big boss I believe, but that idea was scrapped in development!
Some things are more effective the less we know about them.
Ofc it is the underrated moment. A pretty big part of interesting and sometimes truly sad dialogs appears during some random wall climbing and squeezing through tunnels. This is why you either listen every random or not discussion, or loosing these moments.
My favorite parts of the Norse games are the little dialogue moments!
Wish they explored the place Mirir told him to stay away from in Ragnorak. Honestly so many things they mention in this game that was never touched on again in Ragnorak.
Athena disappeared for ever :(
You literally go to that section of Hel not *that* much longer in the story. When Baldur grabs Atreus and tries to escape to Asgard. That's where you end up.
"It's all connected man!" There is a lot of good Mimir lines and that's one of my favorites
It's the way he delivers that line as well that I absolutely love!
Knowing everything Mimir told us about his past in Ragnarok, i wonder who would've been waiting for him over there.
That’s a very intriguing thought cause clearly Mimir was one of Odin’s most trusted advisors, which makes me wonder how he found favour with a god as twisted as Odin!
"Very well." Know he can be punted into Hel anytime Kratos feels like it.
Hahahah this is true lol
Your father was sus?
That explains a Lot.
He was pretty sus though lol

I like how Mimir's voice is so commanding in this part.
Bro needed to make sure Kratos listened lol
I forgot how great this game is.
It’s still arguably one of the best narrative driven story games of all time!
@@lordology4815 I loved just canoeing around with my son and listening to Mimir tell us stories.
Mimir should have said “you are HIM” you are the bloody goat of the sparta
He is definitely the GOAT lol
Mimir has to be one of the most likable characters ever :)
Edit 2024: and I like how he’s almost enthusiastic when he learns Kratos is the “Ghost of Sparta” lol
Hands down 👌Ragnarok did a good job of showing another side to him though, with him enslaving that creature in the dwarves realm!
The way he says 'My father' made it sound like he's delirious
@@nezikaile9067 bro has PTSD for sure, after all the crap Zeus put him through.
Cool moment 😊
Very underrated moment from this terrific masterpiece!
The fact that kratos is known amongst other realms is insane
It actually harkens back to Stig and David's original ending for God of War 3 that I covered in my God of War Series Ranking video, but basically after Kratos defeats Zeus the gods from other Religions/Pantheons would all get involved and destroy each other and it's this war that leads to mortals no longer believing in the Gods!
I don't like that nothing was ever done with the big ass bird
I second this bro!
i heard that it was supposed to be a boss in the first game but they didn't have enough resources
the fact that you can hear the shakiness in kraros's voice when he says "...zeus?"
thinking he'll have to go through all the hell he previously experienced again
Christopher Judge captured that haunted past aspect of Kratos so well!
well on that note, do you guys know that Baldur is blessed with invulnerability to all threats, physical or magical.
😂🤣
“What is that place?” Sounded so ready to go in and take care of Zeus AGAIN.
He was mentally preparing himself to do it again lol
God of War 4 in a nutshell:
Everyone: don't go there/do that
Kratos: agreed [goes there and does that]
This is very true!
best game ever
Still in my top 3 to this very day!
i just love how Kratos closes his eye when Mimir said the word "ghost of sparta" Kratos just HATES it when someone mention one of the titles that he despised
It's that constant reminder of what he did to his family.
Never Go There. Understand?
Kratos was thinking ‘damn, the head is being serious for once’ 😂
"I won't tell a thing. But you will, brother"
Bro is keeping it real!
Ragnarok dropped the dang ball on this part of the game from 2018. They could've done an awesome side story, some kind of trophy worth quest
Not even that. They could've made the whole mask story as being a return of Athena and/or Zeus using Odin as a puppet the moment he tries to put it on.
That would've been really cool!
The thing is....there was. Heck there was tons of cut content. Ever noticed how the first half of the game feels....complete and the second half feels....iffy and rushed?
@@lightingthief4482 interesting point, I always thought the ending for Ragnarok was a little to suspiciously happy lol, but I personally was still satisfied with ending!
@@lightingthief4482 I'll be honest, I'm glad it ended a bit faster, my playthrough clocked in at around 22 hours for the base campaign, any longer and it wouldve felt like a slog at that point, but I think the game ended pretty good.
Mimir: You've come a long way from when I first met ya, brother.
Kratos: I have had good counsel since then, brother.
Greatest bromance! ❤️
This game’s tone and aesthetic is just leagues better than Ragnarok. So dark and brooding, this game actually felt like Norse mythology. Ragnarok was some weird mix-up with the tone of a superhero movie lmao
I totally get what you mean bro, I think that dark aspect of Norse Mythology was kind of lost in Ragnarök, though I'm definitely biased as GoW 2018 is in my top 3 favourite games of all time!
This has got to be the best game series of all time
Agreed!
But, kratos didnt Know that he Was a god and never gets sick
Kratos does know that he’s a god bro?
@@lordology4815 he’s talking about when Kratos was young, before he found out that Zeus was his father, all the time leading up to that he never knew he was a god.
@@dfuma213 thanks for clarifying and he’s actually made quite an interesting point
@@dfuma213 Kratos probably figured out that he was a demigod at some point in his youth. They were literally all over the place. Norse Mythology wasn't really known for demigods, but Greek Mythology was full of them which is why I believe that Atreus was sick, but Kratos wasn't.

We were robbed of Kratos exploring beyond the bridge in Ragnorok. Instead, we got that Ironwood nonsense with Atreus and Angrboda..
