I agree the suzuki, I just signed the paperwork last weekend, now they are putting on a Yoshimura exhaust, and a fender eliminating kit. oh the bike was 9,999 got it for 8,999. the other bikes 17,000 to 20,000. after said and done I'm at 9,700 out the door
+Go Faster I agree that in a review you HAVE to factor in the price. Yes, a Bugatti is faster than a Corvette, but one costs a million dollars and one costs $70,000.
Thanks for the review guys....tested the top three for around an hour each a month ago...bought the BMW....fast, agile, silky smooth, great noise and brilliant electronics...love the DDC and Cruise Control....1290 SD and Tuono tended to surge a little at lower speeds...ergos on Tuono were a bit too sporty for what I wanted (legs tight, bars comparitively low) KTM felt like a BIG dirt-bike which isn't my style...all great bikes !!!
indeed; also, the engines are different... either more displacement or very different setup/gearing (e.g. much lower redline but more low/mid end power; although I must admit the Tuono and S1000R pull REALLY hard all the way up to the rev limiter, tried both at the track and they are no joke)
Joeri De Strijcker Yeah the Tuono is a wild piece of work. So much torque but unlike your average twin or triple it just doesn't give up. Haven't tried the BMW yet.
I have a 2012 Z1000. I love it. LOVE it. Yes, if offered, I'd take any of these. Love the KTM like I've loved the Z, and always wanted one of each. Well, I can say I've had (2) Z1000s, same year, same colors. I think it may well be my favorite ride in all my decades of riding. It's also a bike that fits me better than any I think I've ever had. Maybe not the "best" of a bunch like this, but I love it. I love the looks too, and of each generation of them. I wish they'd make the 1k instead of filling two gaps with the 900, in fact.
The best of new bikes and so,so new bikes ! the test is a comparison test on the following bikes , Yamaha XSR 900, Ducati 821, KanZ800, GSRX 750, and the Thruxton
chris martin I don't think anybody would really be too big for the Superduke. It's a big bike, very upright and plenty of space from seat to peg. I'm 5"7 and tip toeing when on one. Respring might be in order though, but then again I know a guy around 80ish kg that jumps speedbumps on his, and the forks still don't bottom out!
The Aprilia, BMW, KTM are nice and all but.... they're all around 50% more cash. That's a serious price difference. The Tuono is my favorite, but I'd honestly have a hard time picking between the GSXS1000 and an extra $5,000 in my pocket or the Tuono.
Test rode all of these bikes. Coming from a GSXR 1000 I wanted a more upright bike with same amount of power but more torque. The inline 4s just had no soul and I knew I would get bored with them. So it was between the KTM and the the Tuono for that engine music. KTM felt like a cross between a motocross bike and a bull, great fun but the riding position not for me and too many expensive add ons! The Tuono simply moves the soul, relentless power and torque and the engine sounds orgasmic. The kind of bike you'll never want to change!....and the APRC is sweet!
I read someone saying that both the Z1K and Z1KR are making their way around the world, as well as the Z900. In Australia, my local dealership told me they will be getting the new Z1K and Z900 in a few weeks. Not sure about the Z1KR. I have since checked the specs of the Z1KR and I wasn't terribly impressed. Still the same 142bhp, with a Kerb weight of around 235kg. I thought they would have made it much more aggressive over the Z1K, but apparently not. :(

Z1000R has the same forks. Only the rear shock has been changed. They also fiddled with the damping rates. 190/55 rear tire should make Z1000 alot better.
I've ridden all of these (except the BMW), and I felt immediately comfortable on the KTM. The Kawi was a close 2nd. I honestly didn't like the way the Aprilia felt. The motor was nice though.
What are your thoughts about the Z1000? I'm seriously considering buying it but I haven't had the opportunity to take one for a ride. I currently have an MT-09 and I'm looking for a "supernaked". Z1000 looks so frekin' sexy! I'm also very interested in the new MT-10 because of that amazing crossplane engine. I fell in love with that engine when I rode the bike. The downside of that bike is the looks, I can't really decide if it looks ugly or unique in a positive way. On the other hand the Z1000 looks absolutely gorgeous, but I have no idea what's the engine and handling like. It has about 15 hp less than the MT-10 but equal amount of torque on paper. So what are your initial thoughts about the Z1000?
Ta3kno personally, I love the look of the z1k. and I'm partial to Kawi. my buddy has the mt-10, but I haven't ridden it yet, so I can't speak about it. what I initially noticed when I sat on it, is that it feels big to me. wide tank... not sure why, but it feels portly. when I ride it maybe I'll change my mind
They need to factor price when comparing these bikes. If you bought the GSX-S brand new for example and poured $5.000 worth of upgrades into it, It would eat these other bikes alive and it would still be $2300 down from the super duke in stock trim. Am I right?
In terms of outright speed, the R1 will likely be faster than all except the Aprilia, which is an absolute rocket. But every bike here will be much more comfortable than an old R1--might not be as cool, but they will certainly make better day to day bikes than any superbike.
Skyrinne With optional seat and peg adjustment maybe...At 5' 11" the SD fits fine but it is a bit higher than others in class. KTM riding position is more upright than competitors. With a quick shifter upgrade, the KTM can accommodate a wide variety of rider leg length.
After many Ducati's it was between Tuono factory and SD Se. I bought the Aprilia for its looks and better warranty and electronic suite. And a bit cheaper. KTM was a close second. Either way you would be happy. No more Ducati's for me, v4 is so freaking nice.
Kawasaki should put their supercharged H2 engine in the Z1000, they probably won't but man... that would be one heck of a bike with full ohlins (or showa) and brembos.
"Almost hands down there's only one thing that's gonna beat it & it starts with the letter A" We Australians can be hard to understand sometimes huh? Lol
I've ridden the Tuono, really didn't like it. It's loud, shouty and not from the exhausts but from the engine, lots of vibration, which in never a good thing, then there's the price. It's just not worth it. The line up has better riding, smoother machines. I just don't get the biker pundits all jumping on the aprilla band wagon.
+MrOldham101 LOL WHAT? I mean opinions are opinions but I'm pretty sure most people can agree that Z1000 is ugly as fuck. The Aprilia and BMW are easily the best looking not to mention the best bikes alongside the KTM.
+CBRandCar yes, opinions...... I personally find the aprilia ugly as fuck because of her "bee like front".....love every screw of the ktm (and got one)
the Aprilia isnt really a naked bike is it... "it feels like a moto-gp racer" thats not what you are looking for on a naked bike, thats why you have super-bikes, and it is actually more like a faired super-bike with a raised handlebar... it is out of place with the naked bike group.
I've never ridden the Tuono but it sure looks a lot like a super-sport. Near identical to it's fully faired cousins. I also thought that Naked's were supposed to be synonymous with low-revving high-torque Twin engines, but apparently not. At any rate, I think the Tuono is closer to a super-sport than a Naked.
not to mention you're paying for crap you don't even need such as cruise control or heated grips I'm certainly not going to ride in the winter nor be up on the highway 400 miles at the same speed

I own the 2016 GSX-S 1000 and it is a fantastic bike! The price makes it even more fantastic:)
On the nurbugring the corvertte can win.
@Camdyn Luke its a nice bike, comfortable for going to work but has get up and go on the highway.
I think Suzuki is the most beautiful !!!! For daily use must be fantastic !!!!!!!! And the price is amazing !!!!!!!!!
Looks like a scooter.
Best naked comparison/shootout video I've seen. Really, great job to the folks that put this vid together.
The bmw and aprilia aren't even nakeds. They're one tiny piece of fairing away from just being sports bikes
Big difference in riding position between these and sports bikes. Real handle bars are welcome too.
indeed; also, the engines are different... either more displacement or very different setup/gearing (e.g. much lower redline but more low/mid end power; although I must admit the Tuono and S1000R pull REALLY hard all the way up to the rev limiter, tried both at the track and they are no joke)

Got the KTM, live every f...g bit of it, a comfy bicycle that unleashes true hell when you turn the throttle....
Yep, that bike is an absolute weapon.
Im 6ft and 280lb, do you think i am to big for the bike?
l?. LP looking
chris martin I don't think anybody would really be too big for the Superduke. It's a big bike, very upright and plenty of space from seat to peg. I'm 5"7 and tip toeing when on one.

The Tuono is almost double in Australia ... $27,000 v $15,000 for the kawa/suzuki
benjamin reynolds
get a reasonable price with great reliability for any naked bike you buy.
Where is Speed Triple? Left broken on the parking lot? ;(
Speed Triple is bullet proof.
Owned 3, agree bulletproof!
Test rode all of these bikes. Coming from a GSXR 1000 I wanted a more upright bike with same amount of power but more torque.

The aprilia looks great and I wonder if they are cheap to insure compared to the super sports.
that Tuono thou... uurrgghhh if only i could afford it..
Where is the CB1000r?
109hp... its still trying 2 get there...
Almost 10 years old bike.
cb1000r has 130bhp
Still more than an average rider (=you) could handle.
Miika Venäläinen more than I could handle?
good review im partial to the Bmw for full complete package! Hmm wonder why.
No FZ 10? Did it not come out until 2016?
Gsxs 1000 best bang for buck!!! 👍👍👍
is the aprilia a good naked bike or the naked bike that reminded the testers the most of a proper sportbike?
Aprilia gave them most thrills during the test ride. Owning one and riding it daily through the rain and snow would be whole another thing.
whers the ducati 1200r
Posser bike
interesting reply; in any case, the 1200R probably wasn't available yet when this test was done... I think it first appeared in Oct 2015 or so
That's a shame about the Z1K. Was thinking of getting one. I wonder if they improved the suspension for the 2017 model ?
Not sure - Europe gets a new Z1000 R with better suspension for 2017 but there's no word on whether this will make it to the U.S.
My pleasure - see you agin at Pikes this year!

How big is the KTM?

that bike is fucking ugly. i would never buy it, even if it costed 10k.ok for 10k maybe I would.
Chaos Tade They are Sub-$10k bikes in the US.
Pricing sometimes isn't a fair spectrum... Especially when it's a company fighting to penetrate the market..
Great review chaps. Cheers.
I think it's time for the 2020 version of this video
I just wish the April is had the heated grips and cruise control like the BMW
AT 1.02, did he almost say 'the shit', but corrected himself quickly!!??? lol
How would a 2002 R1 Compare to these bikes on the road?
In terms of outright speed, the R1 will likely be faster than all except the Aprilia, which is an absolute rocket. But every bike here will be much more comfortable than an old R1--might not be as cool, but they will certainly make better day to day bikes than any superbike.
I'm sure these are all fine machines but If I bought a bike today, it would be the ninja 1000 with removable hard bags.
im 5'5", will my height fit for the KTM SuperDuke?
Skyrinne With optional seat and peg adjustment maybe...At 5' 11" the SD fits fine but it is a bit higher than others in class. KTM riding position is more upright than competitors. With a quick shifter upgrade, the KTM can accommodate a wide variety of rider leg length.

why are we comparing a 10,000$ bike to a 18000$ bike?
That's not the point, the point is naked bikes in 1000cc class and above. Now it's up to the company as to which market segment they want to appeal.
$2000 gets you all new fork carts and shock on the Z
Royal Jordanian has both BMW and KTM
Vikas Sarang cool
5 of the most awsome naked bikes available and not a wee little front wheel lift to spot aanywhere.....
Where's the speed triple? It's a couple of years old now but is better than the z1000 and gsx-s 1000
+David Wills
I'm not judging here but people should really stop thinking their opinion is the one and only on RUclips.
got it. thanks for the correction
Kawasaki should put their supercharged H2 engine in the Z1000, they probably won't but man... that would be one heck of a bike with full ohlins (or showa) and brembos.
Fantastic Aprilia
No 1050 speed triple ?....
Ok so what’s the difference to a sport bike
5:07 what did he say ?
"Almost hands down there's only one thing that's gonna beat it & it starts with the letter A"
We Australians can be hard to understand sometimes huh? Lol
I hope Kawasaki will put that 1441cc in a naked bike with premium suspension. I got rid of my ZRX for that reason. Come on Kawasaki! Adapt, overcome!
Why didn't they include husqvarna nuda and yamaha MT?
+RaphaelLee Peters they are mid class naked bikes
Straizz The MT10 is a litre bike
+RaphaelLee Peters MT10 wasn't around in 2015!
Nuda isn't even strictly considered a naked, not to mention it's not in production and the MT wasn't out.
This now needs to be redone with the MT10/FZ10
If i had 20k i would be in a big dilemma. super duke or tuono? I dont, so that makes it easier..!
WHY NO YAMAHA MT10 IN THE COMPARISON..
This test was done in 2015. Two years before the MT-10 was released.
Speed. Triple!
The Aprilia had better win it being the most expensive.
Can't stand bike reviews that just pick the priciest bike, it's like dollars don't matter
no MV brutale? This is a fail shootout from the start
I've ridden the Tuono, really didn't like it. It's loud, shouty and not from the exhausts but from the engine, lots of vibration, which in never a good thing, then there's the price. the two bikes that look most like sports bikes just with the wind shield cut down came 1st and 2nd, gg guys im done... im, im just done -_-
when it comes to looks the Z1000 wins hands down, then the superduke if it was less orange (i know its ktms colour i just prefer standard colours)
+MrOldham101 LOL WHAT? I mean opinions are opinions but I'm pretty sure most people can agree that Z1000 is ugly as fuck. The Aprilia and BMW are easily the best looking not to mention the best bikes alongside the KTM.

Suzuki all day

cb1000r is best than other naked bikes

none of these bikes look really naked. specially the tuono
kawasaki z1000 is the best every day bike
I agreed
I would vote for Suzuki or KTM being the best everyday bike based on my experiences on these bikes.
Z1000 forever...
These men are biased for the KTM. Notice their Australian accent.
Unfortunately for your point, KTM's are built in Austria in Europe. Not Australia.....
