    That dispatcher really did a fantastic job. She overcame her initial shock so quickly, stayed calm and compassionate and was able to keep him calm and comfortable enough to keep talking and tell her everything. Always refreshing to watch true crime and not want to scream at the dispatcher. She was so kind and collected.

      Same here bro, it wasn't the movie that made him do it! He had some very deep rooted issues and needed help bad! I think he was more than likely drawn to the violent movie because he felt like doing that before he ever saw it. I played the most violent games around and watched the scariest/gory movies out and it had no impact on me at all! Other than the occasional nightmare! But that's it. This kid wasn't right that's why he did what he did no other reasons.

      Yeah, I think if he had received psychological help prior, he may not have murdered his mother and sister. Really makes me wonder if the family noticed he was mentally/emotionally struggling. It’s a very sad situation because two human beings are gone too soon, a family is forever traumatized, and this boy has to live with the remorse and guilt of what he has done. I believe him when he says he feels sorry for what he did. It’s tragic for everyone involved :(

    • @lynsey4224
      @lynsey4224 Год назад +18

      @@LaNoturna right. I very rarely have any empathy for people who do such a terrible thing but I have to admit I did feel bad for him because he sounded like he needed help. I could be completely wrong I guess and maybe he's just manipulating the whole situation for sympathy but that's just not the vibe I got here.

    • @spliffi869
      @spliffi869 Год назад +7

      @@lynsey4224 Agreed. I have that supsicion as well. On one hand he truely sounds remorseful and that he is so straight up honest about it, speaks for him. On the other hand, he seems not shocked at all and to know very well what the reasons are that drove him mad . Which coincidentally happen to be socially unaccepted, political incorrect things a large number of people would sympathize with.. He also described that he was "suffocating" as he said, which as a long ongoing process. So it seems he would also be smart enough to figure out that there are about a dozen of other ways to solve that problem, but to kill his family. Normally one would run off, ask for help from authorities, speak up to them or ask for psychological help, considering the awareness about mental problems being widespread also among kids nowadays. Considering all those facts, it seems a lot like he had this planned for a while and must have found something appealing about this approach of dealing with the problem, knowingly ignoring other options. So it's also likely he did think in advance about these kind of excuses, that would cause empathy with other people and maybe even actually had the hope, he's able to get away with it by playing the victim. One moment in the call made me particular supsicious: when he asked for pills against nightmares of the murder he just commited. Doesn't sound very remorseful and seems very egoistic to be worried about the quality of your dreams or even lifetime, after just having ended the life of two humans, that even happen to be his very own family.

Of course, in the spur of the moment, his remorse will not affect him until after the call to 911. Its not some mental illness at the start of the crazy, there is a cause and effect for most if not all trauma mental illness. The diagnosis comes after the brain has reached a threshold where it cannot cope anymore and forms a pattern it cannot escape unless medicated and therapeutic measures are taken.

      I don't think you are rare. The exceedingly "rare" subject is the mentally unstable specimen that IS influenced by graphic violence and/or gore. Consider that meta‐analyses evidences that graphic violent content in media significantly increases aggressive thoughts, hostile affect, and aggressive behavior,... ESPECIALLY IN ADOLESCENTS. No reasonable, intelligent or unbiased human remotely questions this. Similarly, no reasonable, intelligent or unbiased human asserts that graphic horror flicks or playing graphic violent video games 120 hours per week,... GUARANTEES you to become a murderer.
      Consider, 1 in 105 people has epilepsy. Of this group,… around 3%,… or,… 0.0003% of the global population at large,… have “photosensitive epilepsy”. This is when seizures are TRIGGERED by the CONTRIBUTING FACTOR or STIMULUS of certain rates of flashing lights or contrasting light and dark patterns.
      Now ask yourself:
      Do flashing lights cause everyone to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause a majority of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause a lot of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 25% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 10% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 5% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 1% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 0.1% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 0.01% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause 0.001% of people to have a seizure? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause YOU to have seizures? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause anyone YOU KNOW to have seizures? NO.
      Do flashing lights cause acquaintances of someone YOU KNOW, to have seizures? NO.
      However,… if you happen to be a person pre-disposed to photosensitive epilepsy and are marginally susceptible to the affects of strobes, flashing lights, etc.,… can flashing lights be a CONTRIBUTING FACTOR in CAUSING you to have a seizure? Absolutely. Thus, by default and definition,… strobes and flashing lights can be “causal”,… not just “correlated”,… to the onset of seizures for certain persons with underlying neurological conditions. Rare? Yes. Does it happen? Sadly, Yes.
      For those adamant that the graphic violence and/or gore often presented in film and games CANNOT increase aggressive and hostile thoughts AND behavior,…. the “American Psychologists Association” (APA) vehemently disagrees. Rare? Yes. Does it happen? Sadly, Yes. ,… but what do they know, right.

    • @IdahoRanchGirl
      @IdahoRanchGirl 7 месяцев назад +2

      You're right, parents should teach their children the correct morals. But I believe 💯 that these video games where they play as criminal characters, and how gory they are, most certainly desensitize kids.
      I'm 60, the kids when I grew up didn't have video games, and there was much less violence committed by kids.
      I don't think it's at all a coincidence that tons of extremely violent video games come out and this generation of kids are way more violent and are committing way more violent crimes. It is what it is.
      Parents are just letting their children play these games for hours at a time, it keeps them out of their hair. Even the movies. We weren't allowed at all to watch movies that were rated R. And u weren't even getting into a movie theater without a parent for one even rated PG.
      We just weren't exposed to violence as much as kids today. At school if kids had a problem with each other, it was, at most, a fist fight after school. Which was quickly broken up by some adult. Kid was suspended and usually got put on restriction at home...with no video games or cell phones like they all have today. Heck didn't even have cable tv yet. We had 3 friggin tv channels. And home computers weren't really out yet either. We had to read. Or draw.
      Also, we knew how to respect our elders.
      I really really think social media is the biggest cause of the lack of respect and all the "bullying" today. And kids today have such thin skin and everything "offends" them. I feel sorry for them. I wish they knew what it was like to just go outside and build forts and have adventures and meet girls/boys in real life before becoming gf and bf.
      As it is, it's all about their social media accts now. How many followers, how many likes. It won't end well, and we are seeing that.
      Ok, sorry for the rant. Lol

    as for jake, i genuinely feel for him exactly the same as the dispatcher. you can tell how mistreated and failed he had been and how it directly lead to him doing this. his genuine shock and horror for what he had done and his candid innocence and honesty with the dispatcher are signs of somebody who had impaired rational thinking and pent up resentments that manifested in one terrible decision.
    it’s scary really, how much of a normal teenager he is and honestly i feel for him almost the most out of everybody impacted here. the dead people are dead, but he has to live with this and be punished for a stupid and impaired decision. makes me think about why we punish some people who aren’t a danger to society and clearly feel regret for what they did and won’t do it again. what’s the point really, it doesn’t bring the dead back.

      @@cmcc3721 - Not to sound insensitive or anything…I mean, I’m a doctor & retired military pilot/combat flight medic, so I’ve had to learn to compartmentalize, & separate the emotional part from the emergency part. It’s never easy. There’s absolutely nothing that anyone could do for Jake’s mother & sister from the onset of that call, and the dispatcher confirmed that as well as anyone who isn’t in the room could. The only thing left to do was to make sure no one else got hurt. She doesn’t know anything about this kid…he is unemotional, demonstrates a flat affect, and doesn’t seem at all regretful. He doesn’t really even know why he killed his mom & sister. This dispatcher is sending HER people into a house with an unstable teenage boy who has a loaded gun & has just used it to kill his family. As far as motives go, he’s pretty sure it happened because they were racist & occasionally rude to him. Her only job at that point, as the one person who had a direct line to Jake at the moment, was to do whatever she could to set the tone for how this ended for law enforcement & first responders, as well as Jake & the rest of his family. Her behavior & treatment of him could mean the difference between a smooth, safe exchange allowing Jake to be taken into custody….and a shootout with police on the front lawn. This is an unpredictable situation, with a boy she doesn’t know anything about…but based on what she does know, because he felt safe opening up to her, it’s a really good idea to treat him with respect & kindness, and to remind him that he’s still a person with value. It really doesn’t matter whether or not that’s true, and it doesn’t matter if she thinks that’s true. It only matters that Jake believes it’s true, and that she’s being genuine.
      When dispatchers ask all of these questions that seem to be unimportant, they’re not. The answers to these questions are loaded with information that give law enforcement the ability to deescalate dangerous situations so that no one else gets hurt, or dies. Otherwise, all they’d know is there’s a teenage boy inside with a stolen loaded gun, which he just used to kill his mom & sister. Without the dispatcher, they’d be going in blind & they’d have to prepare for & assume that the very worst possible outcome was eminent. That gets people killed a lot more often than thinking a situation is safer than it turns out to be. She has his ear, she is telling him what to do, and she has a lot more to do with how this ends than anyone else - even the people on scene.
      There are really terrible 911 dispatchers whose treatment of the person on the other end has resulted in catastrophic loss. Before Josh Powell killed his kids & blew up their house for example, the CPS caseworker called 911 immediately after he slammed the door in her face. She told them she smelled gasoline, and she even moved her car from the driveway, but dispatchers treated her like she was an idiot. She called TWICE. And they blew her off. It is very possible that there was time to save those kids, but we’ll never know because dispatchers didn’t return the urgency the CPS supervisor insisted upon. In case after case, poor outcomes are the result of negligent dispatchers. And, in the same vein, exceptional results are the result of exceptional dispatchers.
      When people recognize an exceptional 911 dispatcher, especially in this context, it’s because they know what happens when bad dispatchers create deadly results. This dispatcher did *EVERYTHING* beautifully, and she maintained control of the situation from start to finish. It makes sense that people would applaud that. They understand what’s at stake otherwise. There was no one inside that house for her to save - if there was, her demeanor would likely have been different. Her job was to make sure no one else got hurt, and she succeeded. That’s praise worthy. We all know how horrible it is that he killed his mom & sister….there’s no question about that. But, there’s a really good reason everyone is commenting on the dispatcher, instead.

But obviously, resorting to killing them is not the answer as he quickly found out after the fact, with great remorse and guilt. It’s just so sad for all involved.
    I also just wonder why? As someone who plays violent games and watches violent movies myself, not once has any of it influenced me to incite violence. So I wonder if there was other aspects to it as well, a sort of recipe for disaster. Or maybe some people’s minds are just more vulnerable to such influence. Ugh, what a sad case. :(

      you can credit psychopathy and anti-social personality disorder as the majority factor for why he actually did it. unfortunately its estimated around 1-3% of the population operate in this way....cold, calculated and well....anti-social manner. in the days before we had proper psychological diagnostic tools we used to just call it evil or ungodly but we now know its simply an unfortunate bi-product of evolution. developing little to no empathy has allowed some to handle the brutal tasks that were and still are in some cases a necessary component of everyday life. unfortunately as populations rise and we move away from smaller communities where we once held each other more accountable, the anti-social personality types can now flourish and go years before being caught.
      so yeah, i don't think he had exclusive vitriol for only his family members as he admitted to the dispatcher that he had been thinking of murdering anyone and for quite some time. so it appears he just used a quasi moral stance of them being racist/classist as justification to do so and only grappled with the fallout consequences directly thereafter. perhaps the one positive to take away from this horrible tragedy is to imagine what he would have turned out to be had he not had what was likely a decent family upbringing...

However, people who believe there will be no reprecussions for being hateful, bigoted, and cruel should also understand the risk it carries and that not everyone will allow them to continue the behavior, or even give them the chance to correct the behavior. Jake’s sister did not deserve to be murdered, especially being a 15 year old girl, regardless of how she behaved as a person. It’s likely she would have outgrown it, as most (hopefully) do as they grow up. However the people she was hateful to and who she showed no compassion toward did not deserve her cruelty either. Problem with the whole "blame violent media" stand point is that millions watch the exact same movies, yet never enact what they see.
    These people are mentally disturbed and are either enabled by crappy people in their lives, or don't have people in their lives to ground them.
    Either way, media isn't the full culprit but I do feel the unnecessary increase of violent media (most are not even horror movies) does desensitize the youth because they think its cool and don't fully comprehend the consequences that follow.

      Yes. I wanted to show my daughter the movie “Mean Girls” last weekend bc I thought it’s funny and perfect for her age by now and she said “I wanna see “Heathers” 😳 I said “woah!! That’s a reeeally dark movie from what I remember..” my husband and I had an immediate “what the hell” conversation lol. Turns out apparently it’s a musical 🤷🏻‍♀️and she wants to be in theater. I have to see it.
      But anything potentially dark like that sets alarm bells.
      We watched so much crap like that when we were way too young to process it back in the 80’s etc.
      But I’m more protective over my girl…
      I don’t think movies make people kill. But maybe more communication could show signals to a parent. I don’t know. It’s not the victim fault. So tragic.

Obviously if you have more than one child you pay attention to them all dude 🤦🏻‍♀️ but maybe they only have one. That wasn’t the point I was making. You went the wrong direction lol All my comment meant was pay close attention to signs like that. But okay guess paying attention to your kids is “bad parenting” lol that was such a weird comment.
