  • When Canibus was an up and coming, ferocious emcee who was impressing the rap world on his guest features and radio appearances, he had an early opportunity to feature on the Lost Boyz 1997 sophomore album Love, Peace and Nappiness. Canibus was featured on 2 songs. One of those 2 songs was "Beasts from the East," which also featured Redman and A+ (the NY A+). This Canibus verse made a tremendous impression on the rap world and put him on a lot of people's radar. In this video, we look at the early-career of Canibus, his career as a whole, and examine his guest verse on "Beasts from the East."
    A couple of other great early featured verses by Canibus include Common's "Making a Name For Ourselves," Wyclef's "Gone Til November" remix, LL Cool J's "4,3,2,1" (which led to the LL Cool J vs Canibus beef), and Nas's late-90s group The Firm's "Desperados."

    Always hailed this as one of the greatest verses in hip-hop. I remember being 12/13 and memorizing this whole verse! Plus LB was my favorite group at the time so I was all here for it!

      LB fan?? Dope. I use to play Music Makes Me High on repeat. I think that 2nd album Love Peace n Nappiness came with a cd-rom/dvd that had the Music Makes Me High Remix music video. But yeah, I agree about that verse. I was only a couple years older when I heard it. Blew my mind. Btw, My Crew was a cool track on that LB album too. The LP&N title track too.

      @@WoogTalksMusic that's all factz! The 'sophomore jinx' was a big worry at that time and I remember being nervous about the release but beyond pleased when I heard the 2nd album! They updated with the times but stayed true to the LB sound. Those songs you mentioned are definitely 🔥. Even Summer Time can still bump during the summer, and the story told on Tight Situations is dope as well.

    Nas knew better, that's why he removed his verse from Desperados... And Cool J went at him on 4321 for the original verse..... Canibus (For Whom The Beat Toll's) album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

    • @WoogTalksMusic
      @WoogTalksMusic  Год назад +2

      Yeah, the story behind the 4321 verse was messed up. Come to think of it, I haven't searched RUclips for that original Canibus verse "is that a mic on ya arm, let me borrow that" but its probably out there. I remember finding it on those old sites like Napster and Morpheus. Lol. Nas removed a verse from Desperados though?

  • @jamesngene3218
    @jamesngene3218 Год назад +5

    I think his "desperados" verse is better.
    That "Aids" line i think he borrowed it from Nas "live at BBQ" verse. "Slamming MC on cement, cus verbally, I'm iller than aids patient"
    I can't put lil Wayne, drake in the same convo with Canibus, those are commercial ass rapper with 90% weak lyrics and one or two catchy line. Biz is a different beast of an MC regardless what happened at the battle rap.

    • @WoogTalksMusic
      @WoogTalksMusic  Год назад +1

      Interesting on Desperado. I've always preferred the Beasts one. I feel you on the Nas "BBQ" verse, but the "AIDS scared to catch me" takes the irony so much further. "Iller than and AIDS patient" is like saying "sicker than sickle cell" or "iller than ebola" or something. Saying "AIDS scared to catch me" reverses the idea that people are "scared to catch AIDS." It flips the whole idea.. saying he's so sick that the disease is afraid to catch HIM. You know? It stretches the metaphor IMO. But I get what you're saying. Btw, put some respect on Lil Wayne and Drake, lyrically. Lol. Listen to Wayne's Da Draught 3 or Dedication mixtapes. His rhymes schemes and lyrics are insane, man. Drake too. Peep his songs Diplomatic Immunity, Survival, Tuscan Leather, You and the 6, and 4pm in Calabasas. Have you already heard them? If not, let me know what you think. I'm a huge fan of 90s emcees, but I can't front on Weezy and Drizzy. Lol

      Yeah, man. I recently re-listened to that Mic Club album, which was a fav of mine at the time.. 2002, I think. Ridiculous lyrics. So, so thoughtful. I loved that 2000 BC album too. I think he's one of the most mis-understood rappers ever. It was either over people's heads or they just didn't take the time to digest the lines. Lupe suffers the same thing, IMO. Lol, that last part is funny. I've been getting the Hodges. Steph Curry. (Even though my cousin clowned and said 'nah, Seth Curry (the brother)).

      @thisisanewusername4662 I've been listening to Canibus recently. He's one of the best to do it. They're both lyrical geniuses, but K-Rino has him on album quality and quantity (close to 50 albums and their all dope), and consistency. K-Rino also holds the record for dropping 7 dope albums on 1 day. They actually have songs together where K-Rino has the better verse imo.
