Nice video. You can see why your format has by now been copied by so many travel RUclipsrs. Often imitated, never duplicated. Actually you have inspired some other good channels, but you do some things in such a simple way that remain unique. From a long-time viewer and subscriber. Best wishes from Hungary.

@@Nooticus Actually, I think he was--if not the very first, certainly among them, and for a time the most popular. By my count, he's been doing it for at least 15 years, on and off. In 2012 I bought train tickets based on his videos and his website--Budapest to Florence via the night train from Vienna, and that wasn't the first time I had seen his videos, so I'm giving him a few extra years beyond the 12 since 2012, and since RUclips says he joined in stone age of 2008!. Btw, he's not claiming to be the first, I'm awarding him that based on my experience. So, in any case, he is at least first among equals in my estimation. As I said, there are other good train travel channels, but he does some things in such a simply elegant and unique way, in a style that deserves recognition. Thanks for your comment. JG

I’ve just done this trip but the other way around, from Madrid to East Sussex. It’s one of the most enjoyable journeys I’ve ever made (and I was British Airways long haul crew for 31 years). After so many years of flying and airports I have a new appreciation for trains and ferry’s. More people should experience them.

What a fantastic ferry (Well done Brittany Ferries) + Amazing weather you had for the crossing (+ Seeing dolphins = very special) ! I took the ferry from Plymouth to Santander just a few years ago (as I live in Somerset) ..and then went by train to Malaga - I think your ferry looks maybe better than that one / Im almost compelled to go from Portsmouth, should I go again by sea. Your vlogs are better than anyones else's on YT, hands down the most informative, through what you capture, and no need for a commentary, exceptionally well edited. The food looks very good ..and the cabin, in some ways, better than the QM2 staterooms (which Ive taken 3 times now) !

Lucky day on the Bay of Biscay .. calm, sunny and dolphins, what more could a traveller want? I did the Plymouth - Santander trip in 1992, with the car, then took the overnight motorail service Santander - Malaga. This was before the internet was available, I found the rail service in the Thomas Cook red rail travel book, telephoned the booking office in Santander and got them to read to me (very slowly as I don't speak Spanish) their fax number. It was a TOD (ticket on departure) booking. From Malaga I toured Andalucia, visited Granada, Gibraltar, Expo 1992 in Seville and sampled the AVE high speed train between Seville and Cordoba (with a slower local service coming back). Not sure if I will ever use Brittany Ferries to Spain again, their fares have become crazy expensive compared with flying. Shame.

I use to use this ferry in the 80's and 90's, we named it Vomiting Venus because the initial feeries did not have stabilizers and the Bay of Biscay in the winter is not pleasant. Once had to hove-to in a strong storm and a 24hr trip took over 40 hours. I stopped using it as it was far cheaper driving though France and get local channel ferry than this one.
Still, a nice way to travel and recomend it, nut be caitiopus in the winter if you don't have sea legs :)

Excellent and informative video. One nitpick - a trap so many fall into - is that the food and drink at breakfast is NOT complimentary; you have paid for it, realistically speaking, with your ticket purchase. You (and others) should note that breakfast ‘is included.’ (If it was truly ‘complimentary’ the ferry company’s shareholders would swiftly have something to say about that!). Sorry to be a pedant!

    • @seat61

I booked a Club Cabin, so it was included. It depends how much £83 is to you. You could eat all your meals in there for the whole the trip in which case it justifies the cost versus paying in the restaurants for 2 breakfasts, lunch and dinner. But I preferred the food choice & quality in the Azul restaurant - so if I had to choose I'd spend my money on each meal in the restaurant not the lounge.
