When I was first stationed in Hawaii, I was waiting for "The Bus" to take me back to base. There was this really nice old lady waiting as well and we started tallking. She introduced me to Glen Grant and his Chicken Skin Tales. It took me awhile before I picked up one of his books to read. As I'm reading the stories and tales in this book, especially the ones about meeting Pele as an old woman, I realized I had the great honor of meeting her at the bus stop. This was years ago and even to this day, NO ONE can convince me it wasn't her introducing herself to me through Glen Grant and his Chicken Skin Tales. She must have really approved of his work. Me? I'm still honored to have met her even for the short time we spent talking.
Glen Grant was one of my favorite professors (I had several favorite professors there... lol: Ned Shultz; Dan Boylan; Ross Prizzia; David Alethea & Ernest Oshiro - outstanding educators) at UH-West Oahu College back in the mid-1980's. Good times indeed...😀
