lol 😂 I love that phrase “we gladly live in an ugly house with our awesome little herd’…. couldn’t agree more. Happiness and love, togetherness and tribe over material possession (and perhaps a bit more comfort 🙏🏻). Which may well come over time, at the right time but it’s about priority and aligning with what matters the most ❤
Exactly! ☺️☺️ I would gladly live in a camp trailer, or wall tent with a wood stove for a time if that meant we could get into a better property for the equines. Other than to sleep and keep warm, what do you really need a house for? 😂👍🏼
Before I could Commet it vanish so just to let you know. This video was spot on. And your dream home will come your way with Gods help and careful choices. Appaloosa was our choice but I wanted a mule so bad 73 now have to look through comp. glass and watch you two lol
Thank you!! We are being as patient as we can haha hopefully it will come sooner than later ☺️☺️ Well Josey is right up your alley than! Appaloosa mule! You’re always welcome to think of her as that equine you never got! You’ll get to see her grow up on here ☺️☺️❤️
I picked up in June 2023 my first first horse he’s a Mustang, yes I went the crazy route, I trained him to 95% myself it took 71 days from wild to mild to our first sit and a few steps, proud moment for us but don’t recommend that way. We are heading to AK the price from monthly just spending $100 to $1500 is a steep climb but I will not leave him behind or sell him, he’s too important for myself. Love the Mules and hope to be able to add one for my husband. Learning how to administrate medicine like vaccines and being able to draw blood and do fecal testing yourself helps saving money too but the most important part is to have a good relationship with your veterinarian.
That’s awesome and way to go gentling a mustang for your first horse!!! Like you said, that’s not a great route for a lot of folks, but congrats on all your hard work and taking a leap!! That’s amazing ☺️❤️ Alaska is going to be so awesome! There is a girl on Instagram her profile is called Megosaurus you should check out her content, she has horses in Alaska ☺️ idk what part or what part your moving too, but she might be a good resource for you!!
@@MTN_BUILT going to the interior Fairbanks area, I will check her out. I also recommend to get the horse checked over by a trainer to eventually fill eventually made holes, that’s what I did now. Love your content. My Husband wants to retire in Montana or Wyoming.
When you see some of these videos its discussed how the horse is here till it's doing a x y z then will be offered for sale ..... I've heard your wife say twice now about Clyde , this training is important because we have the next 25 years ahead of us ❤❤❤ .... I love she does that , and clyde being a grey is just a bonus 😊😊😊😊
Clyde, Reata, Josey and Mesa will have a home with us for their lifetime ☺️ Cedar we bought to insure that she didn’t end up going to a bad place with her bucking issues she had. Our plan with her is to get her to a point she is safe and then find a really good home for her so that we have room to help out another that needs a second chance. It’s really hard for us to let them go when we do and we are very picky about who they end up with. We don’t have a timeline of when we will find Cedar a new home, for now we are happy to have her in our herd and she can continue learning and gaining confidence ❤️❤️
Great video!❤ Many ethical equine rescues sell their animals very inexpensively. Because they want them to go to good homes and not get returned. They have trainers who volunteer to work with and evaluate the animals . One of my mules was even sent for 60 or 90 days to a trainer. I have found reputable reacues to be honest with me. They really want whats best for you and the equine. My tiger striped molly was $300. Broke to ride. My giant draft mule whom my GF beat me to the rescue paid $1200 for him. Then gifted him to me. 😊 so dont forget to check out the rescues.
Yes they can be a great place! I worked for a rescue and was one of the people that evaluated the horses ☺️ the majority of the ones they took in were old and never rehomed, just lived out their retirement on the place. But every once in a while we would get in one that was young enough to be worked with and then rehomed ☺️👍🏼 you said it though… a reputable rescue. There are some that aren’t so great unfortunately.
We recently started herd and we are learning a ton. Your videos have helped us, along with Ty Evans, to take on our geldings. Thank you for the cost update and the great videos.
That’s awesome! Congrats!! What a great mentor you have chosen, Ty is awesome! We try to make it to at least one of his clinics every year ☺️ Have fun with your herd!! 😃
@ absolutely! Also what you save in the beginning might cost you more in training if a person isn’t able to train yourself. I’ve invested in myself to be able to do certain areas of training however I still have a trainer friend assist me a lot and start them for those first rides. I’m not young any more. Haha We had an unexpected vet visit yesterday when I discovered a giant skin tear on my 4 year old mustang mare. I’m sure this video will help lots of people, definitely at least make sure to get their ducks in a row as much as possible.
@ 100%!! We always set some money aside to join in on a couple clinics so we can keep progressing and learning for our equines! I think new horse owners should do that so they can learn how to communicate with their equine, even if their horse/mule is well trained. Ouch!! Poor girl. Hopefully she heals up quickly. I always wonder how in the world they manage to hurt themselves so often 😅 even when we try to make everything super safe, they find a way 🤦🏼♀️
Thanks for another informative video about the joys and dedication in equine ownership. It is hard to believe, but I do, that equine ownership has become so expensive. You just wouldn't believe how reasonable it used to be in Norcal back in the 70s, lol.
I have just started watching and I really appreciate you sharing this insight and topic with us. I am interested to learn what has driven you to have mules over horses? Maybe for different reasons? Are they infertile and if so could that be a reason? I am very new to the concept of mules and I find it fascinating. Love how you treat all equally and the same ❤ and they are all so beautiful ❤❤❤
Cool to see Josie packing. It seems like just a few weeks ago you got her, but of course it's been a few months. She looked quite at ease with the load in the little bit of video you included.
As you know I do not have horses nor do I hunt but do like range shooting and appreciate what you guys do and love your channel. After watching this video I was wondering could you or Alyssa get up and ride any horse and if so what would you have to do before the mount. Thanks kray
Thanks Kray!! Well I definitely wouldn’t want to get on one that hasn’t been started under saddle or is dangerous to ride lol but I do feel like we could get on and do our best on any trained equine. I would feel bad for a top level horse that we didn’t know the cues for. We would probably confuse the horse at first, but with instruction from the owner/trainer, in time I’m sure we would get along! ☺️ we would definitely need to step up our knowledge and skills on those types of horses though! Lol
@MTN_BUILT just to follow up on your love for mustangs wouldn't they be difficult to ride. I mean is it really like the movies when a horse is broke into submission or is that in the past or does that still happen thanks kray
Yes, anything that makes you grow, plan, enjoy and pull together to achieve your own defined success is worth all the sweat and tears forever and ever. I love seeing you both pull together, well done good and faithful stewards of your herd. Thank you Jesus
Im looking to buy my first horse this year! Thank you for this information its greatly appreciated! I have watched a video about what you should have in a emergency kit for your horse at all times and then this one. You have helped me confirm that I am not blind coming into horse ownership! The only thing I am wondering is how much does tabs, insurance for a trailer, and insurance for a horse roughly cost yearly? Hope your having a great day! 😊
They are spendy and they should be a commitment for that animals lifetime so it’s smart to wait until you’re financially comfortable! In the mean time I hope you’re able to find some friends or mentors that let you ride and be around their horses. They really do enrich your life so much! ❤️❤️
😂😂😂 we can’t help ourselves but wonder what the amount of debt must be when we go to a rodeo or other big event and see all those half a mill setups 😳 I mean we would love one, but at what cost? If we were wealthy sure and if you have the means, then go for it!! Haha but for us common folk a little half ton pickup and a sturdy bumper pull with some rust will do just fine 😂😂👍🏼
